Matthew McConaughey was in the White House to discuss gun ownership. The actor talked about the tragedy at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where he was born.
U.S. President Joe Biden had a brief meeting today with award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, originally from Uvalde, Texas, and discussed gun ownership measures, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said.
Nineteen children and two teachers were killed at an elementary school in Maconachi's hometown on May 24 by an 18-year-old armed with a semi-automatic rifle.
"He is here today to use his platform and call on leaders (of Congress) to take bipartisan action to stop the senseless killings and take responsibility for the weapons we know save lives," Jean-Pierre said. referring to McConaughey's visit.
The 52-year-old actor appeared in the press briefing, holding photos of some of the children who were killed in Uvalde. He talked about their families, what they wore the day they were murdered and what they wanted to be when they grew up. Several times he looked like he had a knot in his neck, while he hit his fist on the table while reading the biographical data of the victims.
"While honoring the victims, we must acknowledge that this time something seems to have changed. "There is a sense that there may be a feasible path ahead of us."
