The Iranian Revolutionary Guards confirmed today, Saturday (2/28) that they targeted the US Navy's Fifth Fleet stationed in Bahrain, while this Gulf state had previously announced that the base was hit by a missile attack.
" The missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck the general headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, as well as other US bases in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and military and security centers located in the heart of the occupied territories," the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran wrote in a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency.
Bahrain is a strategic ally of the United States in the Persian Gulf, permanently hosting the headquarters of the US Navy's 5th Fleet and US Naval Forces Central Command in Manama.
The attack is part of the general escalation in the region , following joint military strikes by the US and Israel, with Iran announcing retaliation.
