7 Horrifying Unsolved Mass Murders

1. The Keddie Cabin Murders
Sue Sharp and her five children moved into Cabin 28 at the Keddie Resort in Sierra Nevada, California in early 1981. By the time April rolled around, the family had been there for two  months and they had been enjoying themselves. That was until April 12th, when Sue's 14-year-old daughter returned to Cabin 28 after spending the night at a neighboring cabin. Upon entering the cabin, the young Sharp found her mother Sue, her 15-year-old brother, John, and his 17-year-old friend, Dana Wingate, all bound and gagged. They had been beaten and stabbed to death. Thankfully, the three youngest Sharp children and one of their friends were found unharmed and asleep in another room.

However, one person was missing from the cabin, and that was 13-year-old Tina Sharp. Her disappearance would stay a mystery over the next three years until her skull was found a short distance away from Cabin 28. It became obvious that Tina had died around the same time as a mother and brother. The whereabouts of the rest of her body remain a mystery. Police have never had a suspect in the Keddie Cabin murders, but they believe there were probably two killers. They believe that the killers came back to the cabin with John Sharp and Dana Wingate, where they were spotted by neighbors who gave the details for the official police sketch, which is shown here. Police are still looking for information about the killers, and without it, the four murders in Cabin 28 will likely never be solved.

2. The Villisca Axe Murders
In June of 1912, the City Council of the small town of Villisca, Iowa, was having a disagreement with the electric company. This led to the power company turning off all electricity to the town on the night of June 9th. It was sometime during that [?] night that someone broke into the Moore house and murdered Josiah and Sarah Moore, their four children, who ranged in age from 5 to 11, and two other girls, ages 8 and 12, who were visiting the Moore household on that fateful night.

All of them had been murdered in their sleep. The killer had taken an axe and whacked all his victims in the head multiple times. There were a handful of suspects in the case, one of them included Iowa state senator Frank F.  Jones, who was angry with Josiah Moore over a business deal. Some people believe the senator paid a man named William Mansfield to commit the murders. Mansfield was a pretty nasty guy. He is suspected of murdering another family with an axe four days prior in Paola, Kansas.

Mansfield also murdered his wife, his child, his mother-in-law and his father-in-law, again with an axe. Another suspect was serial killer Henry Lee Moore, who was active in the area at the time. Moore, who is not related to the victims, is believed to have killed at least 25 people, and he also liked to use an axe. A third suspect was Reverend George Jacqueline Kelly, who was a traveling preacher in the area at the time of the murders. He was even charged with the murders, but ultimately he was acquitted. While the case may never be solved, the house in Villisca  is now a tourist attraction.

3. The Aurora Hammer Slayer
Sometime between midnight and 06:00 am on January 16th, 1984 a man broke into the Bennett home in Aurora, Colorado. 27-year-old Bruce Bennett became aware that someone was in the house, and he fought with the man on several different floors of his house and the stairway. Sadly, this wasn't a fight Bruce Bennett would win. He was found beaten with what police believe was a hammer, and his throat was slit.

After murdering Bruce, the killer attacked his 26-year-old wife Debra, and his two daughters,  7-year-old Melissa and 3-year-old, Vanessa. Both Debra and Melissa were sexually assaulted and bludgeoned to death. Vanessa was also beaten severely with a hammer, but survived the deadly home invasion. Sadly, this massacre wasn't the only home invasion committed by the unknown suspect. On January 4th 1984, they believe the killer broke into the home of James and Kimberly Haubenschild, and beat the couple into a coma with a hammer. Luckily, they survived the attack. Then, on January 10th, two women were beaten with a hammer in two separate attacks in their homes.

Donna Dixon was put into a coma, but survived. 50-year-old Patricia [Smith] wasn't as lucky, and she was killed in the attack. Currently, there's a John Doe warrant out for the suspect. A John Doe warrant is issued when the police know who committed the murders because of evidence like DNA, but they do not know the identity of the person. Using the DNA that was pulled from the crime scenes, a forensic artist was able to draw a sketch of how the man may look when he committed the crimes, and an age-progressed  photo to show what he may look like now. Police are still looking for information and hope that one day this case will be solved.

4. The Hinterkaifeck Murders
63-year-old Andreas Gruber lived on a farm called Hinterkaifeck in Germany, with his 72-year-old wife, 35-year-old widowed daughter, and her two children, who were 2 and 7. On March 31st 1922, a maid, Maria Baumgartner, started working on the farm. Within a day of the new maids arrival, the Gruber family stopped appearing in public. On April 4th, their neighbors began to suspect something was wrong, so they went to investigate the farm, and they found the barn door locked. They broke in and found four bodies: Andreas Gruber, his wife, his daughter and his 7-year-old granddaughter. In the farmhouse they found the bodies of the maid and the 2-year-old. They all had been killed with a pickaxe. Authorities believe that the four family members found in the barn were lured there one at a time and then murdered.

The murderer then moved inside and killed the toddler and the maid. It is also believed that the killer stayed at the farm for a few days after the murders, in which the killer fed the farm animals, milked the cows and ate the Grubers' food. What is really strange about the murders is that Andreas Gruber had reported strange occurrences happening at the farm in the months leading up to the murders. In fact, the reason Maria Baumgartner came to live at the farm was because the last maid had quit because she believed the farm was haunted. There are a number of theories as to who killed the Gruber family and their maid, but the case remains cold and it is unlikely that it will ever be solved.

5. The Yogurt Shop Murders
On the night of December 6th 1991, in Austin Texas, a police officer discovered that an "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt" shop was on fire. He called the Fire Department, who arrived a short time later and put out the fire. Inside the shop they found the bodies of 13-year-old Amy Ayres and 15-year-old Sarah Harbison, who were visiting the store. They also found the bodies of Sarah's sister, Jennifer Harbison, along with Eliza Thomas, both who were 17 years old and worked at the store. They were all stripped and then their clothes were used to bind  their hands in their legs. At least two of them had been raped, and all four girls had been shot in the head.  Three of the bodies were stacked together in the storage room, but Amy's body was found in an adjacent room.

The fire had been set to cover the crime, and for the most part it worked. What evidence the fire didn't destroy was contaminated by the sprinkler system and the Fire Department. The only piece of physical evidence the investigators were able to pull from the scene was DNA from the two girls who had been raped. Over the next few years, police took DNA samples from over 100 men, but no match was ever found. In 1999, cold-case investigators were looking into the massacre and detectives started looking into a man named Maurice Pierce. On the night of the murder Pierce was 16 years old and he had been arrested for carrying a gun not too far from the yogurt shop.

However, the caliber of his gun didn't match the gun that had been used in the murders and he was dismissed as a suspect back in 1991. They also interrogated one of Pierce's friends, Michael Scott, for over 20 hours. It concluded with Scott's confession to the murders, saying that he, Pierce, and two other men named Robert Springsteen and Forrest Wellborn had committed the rapes and murders. All four men were arrested, and once in custody, Springsteen also confessed to the murders. The problem was that the DNA pulled off the girls did not match any of the four men. As a result, only Springsteen and Scott went to trial for the murders, because they had confessed.

They were convicted in 2000, but in 2009 their convictions were overturned because it was proved that the police had coerced their confessions. The police believe the two men are guilty and believe the DNA belongs to a fifth man who was involved with the crime, which would explain why the DNA doesn't match any of the four suspects. Others believe that the police have tunnel vision for the men, and say that Springsteen and Scott were innocent men who spent nine years in prison while the real killers remain free.

6. The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders
June 12th, 1977 was the first day of girl Scout Camp at Camp Scott in Oklahoma for 8-year-old Lori Farmer, 9-year-old Michelle Guse, and 10 year old Doris Milner. During the evening, there was a thunderstorm that forced the girls into their tent for the night. The next morning, a counselor went to get the girls from their tent, but found they were missing. Sadly, their bodies were found a short distance away. They had been raped, beaten and strangled, and then their bodies were stuffed into their sleeping bags.

There was one main suspect and that was Gene Leroy Hart, who was a convicted rapist that had escaped from prison four years prior to the murders and was on the lam when the murders were committed. Hart had grown up around the camp, and police believe he was in the area at the time of the murders. He was even charged with the murders, but was acquitted in March 1979. Hart was in prison for unrelated charges when he died of a heart attack a short time after his acquittal, and no one else has ever been charged in connection with the Oklahoma girl scout murders.

7. The Arellano Family Massacre
25-year-old Manuel Arellano, his 25-year-old wife Monica, their three children: 5-year-old Manuel Jr, 2-year-old Leticia, and 15-month-old Eduardo, along with Manuel's sister, 19-year-old Rosa Elia, were driving from their home in Villa de Fuente, Mexico, to San Angelo, which is just inside the Texas border. At some point the family got a flat tire and Manuel fixed it, but then a short distance later they got another flat. That was when a blonde-haired man with the cowboy hat driving a pickup truck stopped to help them. He offered to drive them the 30 miles to Sonora, and then back to their car with her fixed tire.

Sadly, the mysterious stranger wasn't there to help them at all. Next morning, the bodies of the six members of the Arellano family were found scattered along a mile stretch of highway about eight miles from their car that still had a flat tire. They all had been shot and stabbed and the women had been raped. Sadly, only 5-year-old Manuel survived the massacre. In 2006, after an anonymous tip came in, police thought they were closer to identifying a suspect, but no arrests have ever been made, and the identity of the blonde cowboy remains a mystery.

Top 15 Scary Videos You’re Not Meant To See

15. Stalkers
Welcome to the inner workings of a broken-down mental hospital, recorded Live to Facebook by HAMMY T.V. This creepy video takes you on a tour through the extreme ward of Medfield State Hospital. Developed over the turn of the 20th century, the 58-building complex held a max of 2,200 patients and was a filming location for such films as Shutter Island and The Box. According to wikipedia, trespassing between dark and sunrise is strictly forbidden…so these boys aren’t exactly following the law. One especially creepy fact about this asylum is that it has 841 gravesites, all of which are numbered instead of named.

In fact, Boy Scouts in the area made it their Eagle Scout service project to find the correct names of all buried and their dates of passings. If that wasn’t creepy enough, watch what happens during this tour of evil. The crew is heading to the third floor, where there were allegedly a few passings. As they’re trying to decide how to get up the very broken stairs, the camera pans the upper floor. Keep your eye on the hallway. A shadow person very clearly crosses the threshold – a shadow that apparently the crew didn’t see in reality, as they have no reaction to it whatsoever. I’m not sure if anyone noticed until it was pointed out in the Facebook comments but now that it’s been spotted, I think this paranormal sighting is terrifying.

14. Haunted Attic
Do you hear noises from the attic where no one lives? There are only a few explanations: animal, squatter…or ghost? Which one explains what happens next? Published to YouTube in October of 2015 by Kriscoart, the uploader writes, “I kept hearing strange sounds coming from the attic of the old apartment building I am currently at in Italy and decided to set up a camera. What I saw when I went to go grab the camera a few hours later was shocking.” The place is still and silent at first. But then, a chair in the back of the room moves all on its own. A couple seconds later, it moves again. The ghost then decides to play around with the old-school rocking horse. At first, it simply rocks back and forth. But before long, it quite clearly moves from side to side, even sliding across the floor a little. It almost appears animated. Is there a child ghost playing around in the attic? If so, I wouldn’t recommend joining in on the fun.

13. Cursed Tunnel
You may think you’re ready for this list, but some scary videos, you’re just not meant to see. The boy in this video says he hears something in this tunnel that sounds to him like a scream, so he decides to go investigate. But no, the boy enters the darkness with nothing but a void at the end of it. For a while, all you hear is his own footsteps. Then, you hear this…Sounds like ‘Alien Vs. Predator’ up in here. The kid stops for a moment, and in that quiet, a couple footsteps splash through the water. He then says hello to the creature he cannot see, before heading forward again. But he doesn’t get very far.

The rattling sound echoes throughout the tunnel before the thing starts to screech in a way that makes your insides tremble. As he runs, the creature quiets for a time but lets out a final terrifying screech as  the boy exits the tunnel, likely wondering what in the world he almost happened upon? Is this for real? If so, what lies in the depths of this underground? Dark_Dominator thinks it’s the rake, while TheLastOne0001 suggests it’s a feral hog…but I’ve never heard a rattle like that from a hog before. Lesson learned: the next time you hear screaming in the darkness, it’s best to run in the opposite direction.

12. Camouflaged
There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, when you’re face-to-face with a predator in the jungle at night. I first came across this video on the spanish speaking YouTube community, and it was published in February of 2020, this sinister video stands out in an ultra scary list. The shot pulls into the darkness of some jungle leaves and foliage, where the viewer can somewhat make out a discernible shape. It appears like a wildcat, hidden in the leaves, waiting to pounce. If you saw this crouching out of the corner of your eye as you took your everyday jungle route home at night, would you be afraid? You should be.

11. Nightmare Uber
What do you do when your Uber driver refuses to let you out? That’s the nightmare scenario two Uber passengers were faced with when grabbing an Uber in Virginia. The pair captured the horrifying high speed chase live. According to the passengers, another driver had drove into their Uber driver’s car. When the Uber pulled to the side of the road to exchange info, the car didn’t follow suit, instead fleeing the scene. The Uber driver then decides to chase the other driver, while calling the police. During his hot pursuit, the driver hands the phone to one of his passengers, who tells the police what is happening. The pair wants to get out of the car, demanding that the driver stop and let them out.

The driver refuses, saying he can’t let the guy go. The passenger relays all this to the police, saying the driver won’t slow and they’re going to hit someone, to which they warn the man that he needs to stop. The driver does not heed the police’s warnings and, in fact, he continues chasing the suspect, despite the fact that the passengers notify him that they have the number of the suspect’s license plate, so he can logically pursue him that way. Four and a half minutes of fear, and the driver finally pulls over, allowing the couple to leave. They catapult out of the vehicle. ”That was the scariest moment of my life….It was a nightmare,” one of the passengers is quoted as saying. Thankfully, it went no further, and the driver was later charged with abduction. Talk about a bizarre ride.

10. Tag, You’re It
A girl and the person filming were innocently playing around outside. But they were not alone. Published to YouTube in May of 2019, nightmares abound after watching this video. Which is gaining attention in the spanish speaking YouTube community. The clip shows a girl playing with a ball outside a yellow fenced-in building. She runs up to the fence, behind which a pair of swings are wrapped together in knots. After a moment, the girl points at something or someone behind the cameraperson, who turns around to see what she’s indicating. There is no one in the distance across the field. But there is someone right behind her. The ghoul of a girl appears semi-transparent as the camera’s shot falls. We can only imagine the cameraperson fled in fear from this thing she was not meant to see. Tag, you’re it. Game over.

9. Poltergeist Possession
Published to YouTube by Proving Demons in May of 2020, you might want to call your local exorcist after watching this video. The uploader explains that the house they entered is known to have been the site of an exorcism, and they were exploring it to capture paranormal activity. He writes, “while experiencing heavy poltergeist activity, i could feel the demon inside trying to possess me as it did the previous owner, who is now insane in a mental institution. from that point our ghost hunt took a turn for the worst.” Let’s take that turn with them. After hiking up to the abandoned building and entering through a crawl hole, the crew finds the inside looks like a surreal art shed.

Colorful paper lanterns hang, arrows are pointing every which way, all natural light in the place is framed by gothic windows. At first, the general aura of the place is curious rather than creepy. There are lots of scraps of paper posted to a board, a large map, a guitar hanging on one wall. As one YouTuber, Lavender Rainbow, points out, there’s a pamphlet on a wall later in the clip at 16:29 that reads, “Bi-polar disorder survival guide,” so maybe the person living here was trying to seek psychiatric help. You find yourself wishing you were there, so you might examine things up close and learn more. But then, the crew hears a woman screaming.

They head toward a backroom, with one of the dudes mentioning they hadn’t even made sure they were alone in this building. In fact, the building looks very lived-in, not abandoned. There’s what looks like a bed in the next room with blankets on it, a full backpack beside it, clothes hanging. Are they alone? He continues into the next room, hearing others inside, but it turns out just to be his own crew. You can hear a lot of sounds and things moving, like there are animals on the roof.

Next, the door closes behind him by itself. They use the EVP to see if there’s anyone in the home with them. The quick reply is “yes.” They also hear the words “demon” as well as a warning: “get out now.” The demon tells them they have no right to be there. Andrew says he’s starting to feel affected and his hands are shaking and, moments later, something falls off the shelf. Even scarier are the polaroids that they find of what appears to be an authentic exorcism or ritual of some sort. What do you think went on in this makeshift cathedral of a home? A possession? Would you feel comfortable in the demon’s skin?

8. Ghost Girl
Sometimes, that mysterious noise is your haunted ice maker; other times, things are even more chilling than they seem. Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subreddit by u/Oranjavee and originally posted to TikTok by @pershguh, this one is sure icy. According to the TikToker, she was intending to capture a scary sound her ice machine kept making on camera, but instead got a lot more than she bargained for. As she walks from the living room to the kitchen, for a split second, while the lights are off, you see a little girl standing there in the darkness next to the ice machine.

Watch carefully. It’s just for the slightest of moments before the light flicks on and she disappears. The girl is pale and dressed in black with long black hair. She stands there motionless before vanishing into thin air with the light. Coupled with this is the eerie sound the ice machine truly was making. It sounds like the windy moans of a ghost. teema2013 writes in the comments, “I have the same ice machine. It does NOT make that sound. Yikes!” Yikes is right. You never know who is waiting in the darkness for you.

7. Playing Around
Imagine being the spirit of a child, still stuck in the world. Why are you there? What do you do in the interim? Clearly, the answer is to play around with the living. Originally posted to TikTok by @dreezperry, a Redditor wonders what reddit thinks of these TikToks. Let’s take a look. In the first clip, Perry says he’s convinced that this room in his home is haunted. After shutting the door so it doesn’t scare his daughter, he speaks directly to the ghost, inviting him to reveal his presence in some way.

At first, the ghost is hesitant. But soon after, a can on the table flips over onto its side. After returning to the room, he asks the spirit to move something else. A toy car begins to slowly roll across the same tabletop. Seems like someone is ready to play… Redditor Hollowplanet writes, “This is exactly what the poltergeist I had was like.” During “round 2” of attempting to communicate with the spirit in the toy room, Perry decides to try and play too, since many of his commenters on TikTok were theorizing that it was a child ghost.

After asking the child ghost to play, a ball is tossed his way from a nearby shelf. He shows the camera up close that there are no strings attached to the whiffle ball that rolls to a stop at his feet. He asks the child ghost to knock three times if he’s nice. After you hear three clear knocks, Perry says he’s done. Already? The kid just wants to toss a ball. Redditor zryan3564 writes that he’s jealous the ghost is so vocal. “It seems he/she wants you to accept it so it's doing everything you ask,” Ryan says. Would you accept this playful ghost? Or would you lock up this room and throw away the key?

6. Ghost Storms Out
When you’re arguing whether a shirt is red or maroon, the ghost in your presence will know they’ve had enough of you two. Published to YouTube in May of 2020, this is what happens when a ghost gets fed up with your bickering, throws up his hands, and storms out of the house he’s haunting. The uploader explains that during their last visit to this place, they experienced the door slamming but didn’t have a chance to record it. So, this time, they returned to capture it on film.

This video is cut down to 3 minutes of the 50 that were recorded. The clip shows the boys arguing whether or not one of their shirts is red, before deciding to call it quits with the filming, since it had been nearly an hour. Just then, something clearly slams in the distance. The uploader said his friend thought it was the hinges of the door rather than a ghost but decided that the video is proof it wasn’t the hinges. He also claims that he and a friend saw a shadow person in this building, as well.

The uploader writes, “Someone said that it could have been air in the last upload but it wasn't because, the thing is if it was air it would have opened it, the air is coming from the outside so it would push it out to open. Instead what we caught was a ghost slamming the door the opposite direction of where the air was coming from so the force of the door slamming was going against the air.” This was filmed in Harlingen, Texas, and there wasn’t much airflow in the place, according to the uploader. The group was sweating from so much stale heat. Well, maybe the ghost was too.

5. Screams from the Sky
There are mysterious happenings that can be explained…and others to which there is no answer. Guess which one this mystery is? Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subreddit by u/Ebb-Puzzleheaded and originally published to YouTube by Daniel Robb in May of 2020, these screams in the Texan night sky are sure to set your hair on end. In the clip, the uploader explains that there’s a sound in the distance – screaming that seems to be coming from the sky, and you regularly hear the eerie screech off and on for nearly 8 minutes.

The uploader, Daniel Robb, says this happened between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. and that it sounded to him like a banshee, followed by several voices whooping.  He said the sound “filled the entire night sky!” Others in the comments agree that it’s demonic or banshee-esque, citing the “end of times.” Redditor Ihavenopurposeinlif3 notes that the screams occur alongside the lightning strikes and wonders if they might be interconnected. I guess we may never know the actual answer.

4. Backcrawling
While this may be video editing, even so, it’s an image you won’t be able to get out of your head. Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subreddit by u/Caligramm, a young woman dressed in white with long black hair and shadowed eyes creeps backwards up the stairs. As she backs slowly away, her hair piles upward onto the stair above. Obviously, this was shot forward and reversed backward, but the effect produces the type of uncanny sensation that sends chills up your arms. Reddit agrees.

3. USS Hornet
Old ship vessels are often-known for their ghostly secrets. After all, they have seen the greatest evils on Earth in the name of battle. Published to YouTube in February of 2013, the ghost activity aboard this navy ship, the USS Hornet, originally aired on DE Episode 32. The crew member can be heard explaining how to use the EVP, when in the background of his discussion with the newbie, you can hear a strange voice – one that sounds like a little girl. It’s hard to tell what the girl is saying without the voice being isolated in the audio file, although YouTube commenters have their  theories. YouTuber Madcaps and Nemo’s writes, “It sounds like she said ‘can you tell me why they forgot me?’” Others heard, “Do they think they know they got me?” Some simply hear, “Play with me.” What do you hear?

2. Filtering Phantoms
This clip shows a normal psychedelic filter, the electric colors surrounding the girl in frame. She then turns her camera to span the room. The filter follows for a moment before becoming absent from the shot, as the room is empty. Or is it? The person detecting filter appears to detect someone in the chair sitting opposite. No one is there, and yet the silhouette of a human form starts to appear in the shot in shocking black and white. It seems to be seated in the chair. The girl turns the filter back to her face, and the shocking figure follows, blending into the psychedelic filter colors around her again.

Redditor hydrantwrench97 is both tentative in jumping to the paranormal and rightly creeped out. She writes, “Usually these snapchat filter ghost clips are ... glitching, and basically the camera falling for pareidolia. But this one is weird... might just be the spookiest glitch ever, but it is very weird and would scare ... me if that was my living room.” Maybe it sees something we don’t… I’ve got a challenge for you, since you’ve made it this far, why not like this video and hit subscribe in the next 5 seconds, because we upload a new scary video every week.

1. Goldfield Hotel
Legend has it that the horrors that happened in this opulent gold-gilded hotel are beyond comprehension. Proof that looks can be deceiving. Published to YouTube by Alice Hammer in September of 2015, this venture inside the once-bustling Goldfield Hotel is a must-stop shop for ghost hunters. This news clip is just one example of this. KTVN Channel 2 News leads a crew of seven through the dark haunted hotel using flashlights and lanterns. They stopped on their journey throughout to use the EVP to try and communicate with the spirits there.

According to the news crew, on the fourth floor after passing a stairwell, something came rushing at them. They also claimed to hear footsteps approaching. But it was in the basement where the anger as felt. The newscast mentions an earlier crew experiencing a brick being thrown while there. So, they asked the spirits to show them that they were real, and further asked if they had thrown the brick. The response? “Thank you, but we’ve done it.” Also in the recording, a male voice says, “Didn’t mean to hurt anybody.” Somehow, I don’t believe him.

Top 15 Scary Videos That'll Freak You Out Bro

15. Invasion Thwarted
This not-so-smart intruder’s attempted entering was thwarted by a much smarter doorbell. When this stranger attempted to break into this home in Sydney's Hills District where a woman and her child were alone inside. The man is captured on several security cameras staking out the premises, ringing the doorbell and waiting, before peering into the windows and trying the door handle several times. When the homeowner finally responds to the man’s attempted break-in via the ring doorbell, the homeowner’s voice obviously scares the man, who quickly rushes off, apologizing and claiming he had the “wrong house.” There’s nothing better than outsmarting an intruder. Hopefully, he didn't try again later.

14. Out of the Sky
A loud sound blares throughout. Not sure if it’s an alarm, or what? The streak of red light sparks like fireworks and then dissipates, we assume being stopped by the C-RAM, as the title claims. Redditors in the comments find it in action to be pretty incredible but equally frightening. I have to say that I agree.

13. Phantom Trespasser
You might consider calling the cops on the intruder trespassing on your property at night… but when it turns out to be this woman, maybe you should call a ghost hunter instead. Posted to Twitter by Daniela Garro, she writes in Spanish, “OK my parents have a security company and how about the officials of a condominium have just passed them a HEAVY video of what happened last night.” The video shows a large yard with a small pool. In the distance, a woman dressed in white crosses the property. She has long dark hair and moves steadily forward, until she’s closer to the camera. She strides across, clearly on a mission. And that mission is to evaporate in plain sight. The phantom trespasser disappears into the night as she rounds a corner. What does she want here? And where did she go? All questions and no answers. Perhaps that’s what we’re supposed to have.

12. Intruder
A Ring camera caught yet another attempted intruder in the act. Actually, this time, two. Published to YouTube in a Ring cam video by Full Moon Crazies in July of 2019, the surveillance camera was placed behind a lamp and captures a pair of thieves going into a home during the Christmas season. The thieves are partially hiding their faces with their hoodies, and they seem to spy the Ring camera right away, as they look directly at it. After gathering some backpacks, likely filled with the taken goods, one of the intruders can be seen knocking the camera down to avoid its capturing further incriminating footage, but he didn’t totally succeed: two more intruders are caught on camera entering the room from the hallway. The clip ends without further explanation. These intruders more than likely made off like bandits, but we can only hope this video evidence was enough to catch them. Either way, this cost them Christmas, as they were sure to end up on Santa’s naughty list.

11. Footsteps in the Mine
You’re exploring a dark underground mine. Water dripping, echoes, silence. And then you hear this…Posted to the r/Ghosts subreddit by u/rezzurict, the Redditor was on an adventure through the Disodo Mine in Arizona when he heard what he describes as “footsteps on wood" coming from deep within the tunnel. He says he and his crew were the only ones there at the time. Would you hightail it out of there, or wait to see who or what was approaching? While most in the comments are already racing for the hills, Redditor Jd250f offers a potential explanation. He writes, “When I was a kid, I lived up in Tennessee right on an old mine used by the town for storing stuff in the early 1800s and I would often hear sounds like these. Although Jd says that he doesn’t personally believe in ghosts, he also admits to sensing the presence of pain and suffering in a place. On another note, the Redditor felt “angry and hostile vibes” in the place and insisted that it felt like something terrible had occurred in that mine, and he didn’t want to know what it was. He also notes that his stepfather felt he couldn’t breathe at one point, and not from overexertion. Do you think this can be explained naturally? Or is something haunting this mining tunnel? Wherever you stand, myself and most agree that this is one of the creepiest videos posted.

10. Demonic Choir Girl
Heavenly harmonies sound haunting. This one may actually be. Published to YouTube in June of 2020, this clip comes from a video that’ll give you nightmares, according to the Portuguese title. This clip is gaining traction in the Spanish-and Portuguese-speaking YouTube  communities, and after watching, you’ll know exactly why it’s become so popular. The footage shows a children’s choir practicing, led by their enthusiastic conductor. They’re likely preparing to perform for their parents in a Christmas program, judging by their Santa hats. At first, all seems normal. Nothing out of place. That is, until the shot zooms in on this child, who appears to be experiencing something out of the norm. The girl with long black hair leans her head back, as if her actions are out of her control. She appears possessed, and her face, blurred to begin with, even disappears at some points, like it’s erased from the video altogether. The young girl dips her head back several times in this manner, which is plenty of cause for concern, but it’s her seeming to vanish from the footage only to reemerge that’s especially creepy. Is this girl possessed? Can the vanishing act be somehow explained? Whatever is happening here, one thing’s for sure: it’s freaky.

9. The Baby Monitor
Have you ever seen videos on social media that were so concerning that you considered calling the cops? A Redditor explains that this days-old TikTok account is posting disturbing videos. He writes that the video’s “creator” keeps posting 15-second clips over several days and that neither viewers nor the platform appear to have alerted authorities. The clip posted by MANDY, shows a woman on a baby cam crying while having her hair brushed by a man. When her head droops, he lifts her chin back up to face the camera. Some in the comments say that it’s so creepy, they can’t even watch. Excitedkoalas29 mentions, “If ya’ll look at the people they’re following, this starts to look like a new horror account. They’re following a lot of verified users, as well as celebrities.. that’s always a good sign that it’s fake.” Although koalas says he isn’t trying to discredit the clip, which could potentially be real, we hope that he is right that it’s some sort of horrible horror fiction. Other clips posted by MANDY show the girl as well. In one of them, the girl is ringing her hands before being fed something from a man offscreen who then pets her hair. Another clip shows her rocking back and forth and, in yet another, she seems to be eating something off the ground. Redditor julamad weighs in, “the content is gross one way or another and needs to be reported to the authorities” If this is real, then I definitely agree. But as the other Redditor pointed out, there’s a good chance it isn’t.

8. Creeper at the End of the Bed
What if that figure you sometimes see out of the corner of your eye is really there? Posted to the r/Ghosts subreddit by u/malakaijamess, The clip shows the pregnant woman’s blanketed belly Across the screen are the words, “My heart is actually breaking.” But it’s at the very end of the clip that your heart doesn’t break but starts beating rapidly. Redditor QualiteaSpook_Emi sums up: “I didn't notice the head popping up at the end of the video the first time I watched this, what the [heck] is that??” The Redditor says her sister didn’t even notice the shadow creeping up until she watched the clip back. The Redditor says that her sister is fine, nothing bad happened to her, and no further weirdness occurred in her last week at this house. She did mention, however, that she felt heaviness there, like someone or something was stalking her. Another redditor, LinkNaDescricao, also points out the glowing pinpricks in the darkened doorway at the beginning of the clip – like eyes in the darkness. While some call fake on this video due to the abrupt ending, as many note, this was a snapchat which may be the reason for the seemingly premature cut. Others think it’s the ghost of the former pet, which the Redditor has noted was a cat with black fur. Sounds suspiciously superstitious.

7. Masked Man
This video reminds us that it’s better to be safe than sorry. Ring doorbell videos emerged in uptown New Orleans revealing a masked man attempting to enter area homes. In one of these videos, he is captured on film checking the doors to see if they’re open. And as it would turn out, this wasn’t his first attempt. The resident of the latest attempt, Casey Urschel, discovered the scary incident after checking his Ring doorbell surveillance. That’s the first time he saw the potential intruder on his front porch at 3:30 in the morning. He told WWLTV: “Really creepy knowing it was the night before and didn’t wake up when it happened…Probably just trying to get into the house to break in and see if he could get anything.” Describing the man’s creepy mask as “something you’d get at a Halloween store,” the resident also noted that the wannabe intruder was wearing gloves and carrying something indistinguishable. When he shared this on social media, others shared their own. Some clips were from a month previous, which means this wasn’t the masked villains' first rodeo. The police department urged others to report similar incidents so they could further investigate. As for Urschel, he notes the importance of locking up at night. You never know who might come knocking…

6. Home Alone
What’s scarier than being home alone? When you think you are…but you’re actually not. Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subreddit by u/Amydancingagain, the Redditor explains that she was home alone and making a TikTok video when she started hearing noises. She writes, “I heard banging noises from the spare room we use for storage, no one else was home and there seems to also be a weird humming noise.” The clip appears to be taken in Amy’s room. Although faint, you can hear knocking and banging noises in the background. The strange humming sound could be a car passing or some sort of vehicular noise, but as for the banging, who knows? “Can you hear that?” Amy asks. Yes, Amy, we can. Time to take a leaf out of Macaulay Culkin’s book and start setting up some booby traps.

5. Apparition
Filmed at the Holy Love apparition site, the video shows two statues in a field backlit by the sun. Those getting the footage get closer to the statues. In the close-up, the statues’ eyes appear to be blinking. While it could be an effect of the sunlight, it looks like the statue is legitimately opening and closing its eyes. Of course there are some believers in the comments, and then there are some doubting the whole incident, as well. So, YouTubers: is this a miracle? Or just an optical illusion?

4. Paranormal Intruder
What hides in the shadows can oftentimes be shadows themselves. Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subreddit by u/megowhite, the Redditor explains that she and her husband were away from home over a weekend and set up the motion-detector Alfred camera app in their room for surveillance. When they returned from their trip, they were met with this unusual and terrifying video. The clip shows a fuzzy bedroom backdropped by a doorway with either a light on beyond or a natural source of light casting inside the other room. That light shifts as something is apparently moving enough to set off the motion sensor. In fact, that something appears to pass right across the doorway, blocking out the light beyond for a moment. You cannot make out a distinct figure; it’s more like a shadow or a vague – or even invisible – figure that still somehow manages to distort the light. There is definite movement, but from what, we can’t know for sure. Redditor JayJay740 asks if there was an intrusion, to which meg answers that all the doors and windows were locked and nothing was missing. She also notes that strange things have been occurring in this house for the matter of months. Like what? Meg explains,“We always see a shadow walking out of the office thru the wall into my closet and  i always thought I was seeing things until we caught this on camera.” She also says in another comment that her kids have heard people talking, and her two year old has even started laughing at something in empty rooms of the home. A Redditor writes, “That’s actually genuinely creepy.” Of course, as with every potentially paranormal clip, you have your insect theories, but most agree that the clip looks legit and not edited or fake. What do you think? Are you freaked out? I certainly am.

3. The Purge
You head outside for a nice, peaceful evening stroll, when you encounter this. Posted to TikTok by @daniella.duque, the uploader says in the clip, “Something ... happened that changed my life, check.” The clip shows at least a dozen people, all dressed in white, wandering down the empty street, carrying torches. It’s not clear what’s going on here. Many in the comments are saying this looks like a set from a movie. Others suggest the horror film, Midsommar, while some think this group is cult-like, perhaps performing a ritual. Still others consider this is more likely the purge. Are you ready for it? I’m not.

2. Ghostbuster
Who you gonna call? Likely this Russian YouTuber, after watching this video. The YouTuber writes in Russian, “When I started the project, I did not even imagine that it would get such results! Thousands of your posts about missed moments in GhostBuster.” The YouTuber explains that in past videos that he’s posted, subscribers have found paranormal-looking figures in the abandoned buildings he’s explored. He ghost busts a couple of these myths, showing that looks can be deceiving. One of the instances that subscribers pointed out looks to be a white figure beyond in the shadows of a darkened room. Dima explains it was actually two pieces of white paper taped to the wall. However, he admits that other experiences do stump him. In one estate, something dark appears to be sliding slowly up a doorway in a room beyond. He concludes that it was either a bat rather than something paranormal or that, considering the estate is in the middle of Moscow, someone else was on the premises and stuck their hand around the corner to see if he’d notice. Lastly, while exploring an estate, a ghost is seemingly captured peering from under the archway of a room. At this point during his exploration, Dima admits that a chill ran through his entire body. This one appears to stump Dima, and he asks his viewers if they want him to return to this place and try and recreate the scene and its circumstances to figure out, once and for all, what happened here.

1. Nostalgia Nightmare
As it turns out, nostalgia isn’t always a good thing. Posted to the r/chillsnarrator subbredit by heythereyouareok, the redditor explains, “So I was going through my old 3ds photos for nostalgia. The reason why I’m posting this on this sub is because I’m not for sure if I caught anything in the background…do you think it’s younger me being [scared]?” The video clip shows an empty bedroom. As he starts to scan the room, the video captures a dark room beyond. It’s hard to tell if there’s a window in that room, however something appears to move there. Or at least, a shadow is cast that mimics movement. The camera passes upward to the ceiling, and when it returns to the closet, the shadow and light has changed a bit. But it’s the next time the camera pans from one side to the other that the real change occurs. Explain these unknowable shadows. What is going on here? Is there something or someone in that room? No wonder the Redditor was freaked out.

Pluses And Pitfalls In Voice Mail

It s happened to you: Vour phone call to a company IS answered not by a person at the other end but by a recorded voice offering you a menu of options to choose from and phone buttons to press. Interactive voice response (IVR) technology is here to stay, but it can frustrate and annoy as readily as it facilitates customer service.

Many companies find IVR trees up employees for other duties and provides convenience for clients and customers. It is increasingly used to disseminate basic information, to route callers to various departments, and to assist in simple financial transactions. Industry analysts estimate that the technology will be a $1.2 billion market this year.

"Larger companies are saturated with this technology," says Tricia Lester, director of marketing programs for Syntellect Inc., a Phoenix-based supplier of IVR technology. "Our marketing is toward smaller companies because the technology is moving down in price. And smaller companies are installing it because the technology is now tested and proven successful." Quality systems that handle one or two incoming lines can be purchased for as little as $4,000. And for many companies, the cost of installing a new system can be recovered in the first year or two through increased product ivity and reduced telephone staffing.

Voice processing has been a boon to the two major newspapers in Nashville, Tenn., the Nashville Banner and The Tennessean, which are separately owned but perform some administrative functions through a single staff. Before installing an IVR system, the newspapers had difficulties hiring people to run their customer-service operitions effectively. "We've had an unemployment rate of 2 percent in our market," says Patti Gibbons, director of customer information and programs. "I had positions open for more than a year that were going unfilled." IVR filled the void.

Now, customers can request a replacement for a damaged or missing newspaper, change their delivery service, temporarily stop their newspaper during vacations, or ask for an invoice to be sent —all by pushing the right numbers.

For businesses where staffing isn't a problem, IVR systems can free employees from many routine or repetitive tasks. Workers at the six branches of First National Bank of Hudson, Wis., "have become more efficient in their daily work" with the help of the new IVR system, says Susan Gilbert, executive vice president for operations. "They're not scrambling at 4 in the afternoon to try and get things done."

Customers now can obtain balances on checking and savings accounts, loan balances, payment and delinquent-account information, and interest, principal, and escrow amounts on mortgage loans. What's more, this information can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "This 24-hour access to information is one of the great advantages of IVR technology," says Syntellect's Lester. "Small businesses typically don't staff to handle those hours, but now they can without hiring more people."

If a company is going to install an IVR system, it should do so prudently, says John Goodman, president of Technical Assistance Research Programs, in Arlington, Va. Much of the technology is routinely misused, he says. For example, he explains, "in the process of trying to become customer-oriented, salesmen are creating a disaster and companies are encouraging them to do it. Companies are pushing every salesman to run around, hand out business cards, and say, If you have any questions or problems, give me a call' You then call him and get voice mail.

"The minute a customer gets voice mail, you take a 10 percent hit in customer satisfaction because they cannot get their problem solved immediately." Goodman also warns that many companies allow callers to get trapped in voice mail without being able to get out. "You are in voice-mail jail, which frustrates the dickens out of customers as well," he says.

Goodman and Lester agree that not only must you always give the caller the option of speaking to someone, but your IVR system must also limit the number of menu options it offers. Research indicates that three options yield a 94 percent satisfaction rate, and four options a 91 percent rate. "Five options drops your satisfaction rate to the 60s, and six or more options drops the level to [50 percent or less]," Goodman says.
