Creepypastas are typically terrifying legends or images that have circulated their way around the internet. They’re the modern day scary camps fire stories told on a much larger, more accessible platform. Which makes em pretty creepy. Whether or not they’re rooted in fact or fiction is entirely up to you. These days, it seems like any big part of pop culture has their own set of creepypastas, including video game sensations the likes of Fortnite. So today, we’re taking a look at ten of the creepypastas that have popped up concerning the game with our list of the top 10 scary fort nite creepypastas. And warning, some of these are just flat out bad. What do you expect, they’re creepypastas.

10. Followed
From YouTube channel FlipLaScript, Followed is a story about a gamer who used Fortnite to help with his mental health since he got into an accident and almost died. He keeps seeing a Rabbit with a ski mask who keeps paying him a visit whenever he plays the game. The Rabbit talks to him, telling him that he will never cheat death again. He thinks that his mother keeps letting the bunny man in, but she tells him he’s seeing things. So one Friday night, he plays a solo match and notices that everyone in the pre-game lobby has the default blonde guy skin. He ignores it, thinking he’s in a server with a bunch of noobs. The match begins, he lands at tilted towers - and apparently so is everyone else on the server.

He grabs a loot chest, scores a SCAR, and then starts taking out foes. He begins to suspect that they’re all bots - they’re names are “default fort nite player #”. Every time he gets to kill, another player named Frank gets a kill too. Finally, it gets down to just him and Frank, and that's when the player realizes who Frank is - it’s the bunny man, in the game - he tries to take Frank out, and that’s when he hears the demonic voice say I dare you to kill me. He keeps missing Frank and is soon out of ammo. Before he can switch weapons, Frank appears in person, and says outlaid, I dare you to kill me. The player dies of a heart attack.

9. The Bus Driver
Another CreepyPasta from FlipLaScript, this one is called the Bus Driver, and it’s about a scary easter egg. The player heard a rumor on Reddit about the battle bus - an easter egg you can only see on Friday the 13th. At the start of the match, on that date, don’t get out of the battle bus - stay until you’re about to get kicked off, then unplug your router. Plug it back in, and do not find a new game to join, and you’ll still be on the bus. So the player tries this, and it works. Except, it’s not what they expected.

It’s not going over the map, but rather, a ‘passage of time’; events throughout history playing on the screen in front of him. Then, he sees the future. He sees world war 3 break out, there is a nuclear fallout, and he sees his family members die. Time flashes forward again, and he sees himself, trying to survive with other war survivors. A missile drops down from the sky and kills him. He’s then kicked off the bus.

8. Disappearing Teddy
The disappearing teddies are nothing new in Fortnite - they’ve freaked out a few people in the past, but generally, they’re kinda cool. But this creepypasta makes em a little weirder than most of us would like. So this player is going through the motions of a regular match when he finds a box with the name Lucy on it. Opening it, he finds a rusty key and a diary. He reads the diary - it's about a 10-year-old girl named Lucy who, in the first entry, writes that it’s her birthday, and that her father took the day off work to spend it with her, and that her mother passed away recently. The player decides to keep reading in hopes to figure out what the key is. She continues to write about how her father grows increasingly distant, and how she was forbidden to go down into his laboratory.

The last entry reads that she’s going to go down into the lab with her teddy bear. The player starts to look around the house and finds a cellar door in the backyard. The key opens it. The player notices a burlap bag on the ground with a locket that reads ‘best mom ever’. There’s also a bit torn up a teddy bear. The player continues to search the cellar, going through another door, which has claw marks along the side of the wall. The player then finds a skeleton with a pistol next to it and a camcorder. The camcorder turns on, and it starts to play and it’s the dad panicking about the mother, and hearing animalistic noises in the background. The player beings to leave the cellar when he notices that the teddy bear that was there when he entered is now gone. Creepy.

7. Last One Standing
This one tells of a kid named Bill whose parents left for the night. The babysitter hadn’t shown up yet, so he went to his room to play some Fortnite. He starts a match, and everyone on his team had the Dark Knight skin on. All of a sudden, the lights in his house shut off. Bill goes to find a flashlight, but a notification pops up on his screen from an anonymous user that reads “Why’d you do that?” Bill was confused.

He goes downstairs and locks the front door. But then he hears a knock. He opens the door, and no one is there, except there’s a letter. He reads it, and the words “don’t lock, don’t look” are written on it, repeated over and over again, with the last word on the letter being “hide.” bill freaks out and hides under his bed. He feels the air on the back of his neck. He rolls over and sees a bunch of pairs of red eyes behind him. Bill disappeared from that day onwards, and his parents never found his body.

6. The Empty Lobby
From YouTuber Big Mama Eternal, this creepypasta is about a girl named Eternal who was a stripper. She used the Battle Hound skin, and thought of it as a lucky charm - she would often get a solid amount of kills when playing with it. There’s also mention of gonhorrea, but we’ll just skip over that part. Anyway, the skin started taking a life of its own and wanted all of the stripper’s attention, and one night when she returned home at 4am and booted up the game, the lobby was entirely empty. Her character wasn’t there. Thinking it was a glitch, she restarted her system and the game, but the lobby was still empty.

So she started the game anyway, and her character wasn’t there - just a view of the pre-game lobby and other players in the game. So she shut it off again, to play again in the morning. But the game kept crashing. In her headset, she could hear growling. The next day after work, she got home and put on her headset. The growling continued. But it wasn’t just coming out of the headset - it was in her room. She opened her closet and there was Battle Hound. Two days later, she was found dead in her apartment.

5. Supply Llamas
This one is about a player who finds a llama in the game. Immediately after, he gets a message from a user named Skull Killer 369, asking if he wants to get more supply llamas. But there’s a catch - the player must agree to give Skull Killer his soul as a trade. The player doesn’t take him seriously, so he agrees. Skull Killer 369 tells him that in order to do so, he can never turn off the game. The player agrees.

From then on out, the player starts finding supply llamas in every game. During one game, he and his friend decide to reset their match, and the player restarts the game on his system. He turns his system back on and he’s already in a new match. He then finds a different kind of llama - red and black ones instead of purple and blue. He opens it, and there are no supplies - but there’s a note. He reads the note and it says “I told you and you don’t listen”.

The player turns his system off for the night. The next day, he finds more llamas, three of them. It happens again the next day. The player goes to find his dad to show him how well he’s doing, and his dad looks at him and asks what are you doing in my house? He doesn’t recognize the player at all. Everyone knew he was good at the game, but his family didn’t know who he was at all afterward. Yeah, we didn’t say all of these were perfect horror stories did we now?

4. Red Team Leader
Another creepypasta from FlipLaScript, this one is about a player who buys CuddleTeamLeader from the Fortnite shop, seeing that the skin was only available for an hour. But when he uses the skin, the color isn’t pink - its blood red in the pre-game lobby. The match starts, and the skin is back to its regular pink. But, after the player kills two people, the skin starts to turn red. The more players he kills, the darker the red becomes. Eventually, he’s one of the last 10 people in the match.

After a solid firefight, he’s one of the last two and goes after his remaining opponent. But, as he takes him out, the player goes down - which is weird since it’s a solo match. He shoots again. Nothing happens, the player is down. That’s when his controller in real life starts to move. His avatar starts to move, too. He takes out an ax called chopping block and cuts off the enemies head, decapitating him. CuddleTeam Leader removes his mask, revealing its head - one eye shot out of his head, and slits on his face, forcing a smile on his face. Then the game ends.

3. The Storm
The Storm tells the story of a terrifying storm experience during a solo match. The player is going about their business, taking out foes, when they realize the storm is about to close in on them - except, it’s no regular storm. This one is red, with mist. So the player runs, heading towards the safe zone, but can’t quite get there - he gets caught in it. As he keeps navigating his way towards the safe zone, images start appearing in the storm - horrific images, ones that shouldn’t be in the game.

His body in real life starts to itch. He starts to feel pain. He keeps running in the game, heading towards what he thinks is a launch pad. His character’s health gets to 30. His body in real life begins to break out into hives. He gets to the launch pad and flies off, with his health at 20. His vision starts to get weird. His health falls to 10, the player starts to lose feeling in his body. This is when he breaks out into the safe zone, and all of his symptoms disappear. He quits the game and hasn’t played Fortnite since.

2. We Eliminated
You In this creepypasta posted (and beautifully drawn) by Jordan Persegati, we get the tale ‘we eliminated you’ – one of the more popular Fortnite creepypastas that have made the rounds on the interwebs, initially created by 34MatthewsHD. Anyway, it’s the story of a kid who hops on Frotnite after school one day when his mother hasn’t gotten home yet. Everyone in the pre-game lobby is wearing the cuddle team leader skin. Once he gets into the match, he realizes that everyone’s username is ‘we eliminated you’.

Which is weird, because you can’t have the same name as anyone else on the PlayStation Network, so he assumed he was on a server filled with hackers. The player made it into the top 3 and watched the last remaining two duke it out, waiting for the victor to the surface so he could take them out with a shotgun. As he was waiting, he noticed there was a structure built nearby – it read ‘we eliminated you’. This freaked him out, but he still ignored it. Eventually, the two cuddle team leaders who were duking it out finished, leaving one remaining foe.

The player popped out of his hiding spot and shot his head on. But it didn’t phase his opponent. He shot him again. Nothing happened. The player assumed it was a hacker. Eventually, the hacker shot him and knocked out the player. Frustrated, he turned off his ps4, annoyed. He decided to go get some fresh air, but before he can leave his house, he gets a text. It’s from a number he didn’t recognize, and it read “get ready for your final eliminate”. But what was worse was the photo attached to the text – an image of the player’s house.

The player panics and locks himself in his bedroom. He calls the police, and while waiting, he looks out the window and spots a mysterious figure watching him, wearing the cuddle team leader mask. He hides in his closet as he hears the mysterious figure come through his back door. As he’s hiding in his closet, his phone goes off and makes a noise – panicking, he looks at the phone, and sees that he’s gotten a text from that same number saying “I know that you’re in there.”

1. The Whisperer
This one tells the story of a boy named Timmy whose parents go out of town to visit his sick aunt. Home alone, the messages his pal Mark to come over and play Fortnite. But Mark wasn’t around, so he hopped on the Playstation communities to find a partner. He finds a post by a user named BattleBus524, who wrote “I’m the best Fortnite player of all time. I can carry you. Mic needed.” Not being over great at the game, this piques Timmy’s curiosity, but he was a bit concerned since the player spelled Fortnite as Fortnight. He reaches out anyway, and the guy’s name is Drew - a 31-year-old dude who lives fairly close to where Timmy lives. They started playing together, and Drew gets killed immediately. Timmy jokes about it, and Drew got really aggressive with him. The more they played, Drew started blowing things up recklessly and compromising their matches.

Drew then started whispering “behind you” to Timmy, even though no one was behind him. So eventually, Timmy gets annoyed, makes up an excuse to leave Drew, and blocks him, and starts going on solos. A few minutes later, a random user sends him a voice message. Timmy opens it, and the voice says “You shouldn’t have done that, I recommend you don’t block me again.” Timmy ignores it. 20 minutes later, Drew sends him another message. This time, it wasn’t a voice message - it was a photo, of Timmy’s house. A second later, another message pops up from Drew - Check your front door. Timmy goes down to his front door - no one is there. He looks down, and there’s a nutcracker there with a note attached to it. The note reads It reminds me of you - Timmy’s favorite avatar to use in the game. Timmy calls the cops, and messages his friend Mark, who tells him he was right about to message him - he saw a guy in the bushes out front of Timmy’s house. He goes to hide in his parent’s closet when he remembers that he didn’t lock the back door of his house.

That’s when he hears the door creak open. Timmy panics and keeps texting Mark who tells him to be quiet and not make a sound. He hears someone moving around the house, whispering I just want to play games. 10 minutes go past, and Timmy doesn’t respond to any of Mark’s messages. Finally, Mark gets a reply, with Timmy saying that one of their neighbors knocked the guy out. Mark asks if Timmy wants to come over and spend the night at his house. The message he gets back reads “Come over. I want to play Fortnite.” TIMMY’S DEAD MARK. TIMMY IS DEAD.

5 Creepiest Urban Legends
5. The Man Who Spoke With God
Picture this scene: The year is 1983. A group of religious scientists have come up with an interesting new theory that any human brain untroubled by stimuli would be able to sense the presence of God. Finding a willing volunteer, an old man with a terminal illness, they painstakingly seal off his nerve endings. Then they sit back and wait. What happened next is like H.P Lovecraft's worst nightmare. For a couple of days, the old man whispered about his deteriorating state of mind. On the fourth day, he claimed to hear distant voices. On the sixth, his dead wife began speaking to him.

Then things really went downhill. As the days passed, the voices of the dead began to grow louder, more hostile. They became angry, mocking, and started to tell the man things nobody should ever have to hear. According to the legend, the man began to scream and tear at his unseeing eyes, shrieking no heaven, no forgiveness, over and over and over. Finally he began to hysterically bite at his own flesh, saying he'd met God and he has abandoned us. Luckily, the tale is nothing more than a particularly spine-chilling example of an urban legend. But it's creepy enough to have utterly freaked some people out, and now seems to periodically resurface whenever the Internet is in need of some gut-wrenching terror.

4. Farmer John's Suicide
The story goes that the owner of a meat-packing plant woke up one day to find his kids missing. With the help of his brother, the two scoured the farm but could find no trace of the missing kids. After a few hours they called in the police, who made a horrifying discovery. The stuff coming out the meat grinder that day was human flesh, pulped and ground down to goo. Realizing this could only be his missing kids, the owner retreated to the plant's boiler room and quietly hanged himself.

Twenty years after the kids were murdered, workers at the plant stumbled across a terrifying scene. The brother of the former owner had been strung up in the boiler room, the words I did it carved across his chest. At the same time, visitors to the town cemetery reported that the soil above the owner's grave had been disturbed sometime in the night. Fast forward to the present, and it's said that you can see the ghosts of the two children falling into the grinder every October, while on Halloween the two hanged men make their way back to the boiler room.

3. The Staring Video
It's a video of a man looking into a camera without expression for roughly two minutes. It's been up on YouTube without comment and seen by hundreds of people. Known as the "Mereana Mordegard Glesgorv" video, the legend goes that it was pulled by YouTube in the early days after they realized its effects. According to the story, those who watched through to the end would see the expressionless man smile an evil smile.

After that they'd lose it. People were said to have clawed their own eyes out after seeing the whole video. Others were said to have taken knives and hacked their own arms up. Yet others were supposed to have killed themselves. It is said that nobody can get even 45 seconds in without screaming, and to go any further is to sacrifice the last shreds of your sanity. At least, that's the story. In reality, the video is of a guy called Bryan Cortez and you can see him today looking suitably non-demonic and friendly.

2. The Suicide Portrait
A few years back, an internet rumor surfaced about the suicide of a young Japanese girl. Shortly before killing herself, the teen had drawn a self-portrait, which she then posted online. Curious to see this slice of suicide memorabilia, a number of Korean forums picked up the image and began re-posting it. That's where things got weird. Users had a hard time looking away from this melancholy picture. Some began re-posting it time and time again, saying that its eyes were drawing them in.

Others noticed that if you stared at the picture for any length of time, it began to alter subtly, the faintest trace of a smile surfacing around the dead girl's mouth. Yet others reported feelings of intense sadness after seeing it. It is said that one or two even killed themselves. It is now thought that anyone who spends too long looking at the image runs the risk of falling into this same deadly obsession. At least it would be, if the original artist hadn't found out about this rumor and posted a fed-up message on his website, debunking the whole thing.

1. Mickey Mouse In Hell
The creepy "lost episod" is a whole sub genre of modern urban legend. But none has ever been quite so twisted as the legend that started them all: the story of the lost Mickey Mouse cartoon. According to the legend, this cartoon is nothing special. It features a black and white Mickey walking past a repeating background, white noise playing on the soundtrack. At two minutes in it cuts to black and that's it. Wait until the sixth minute, and the cartoon is meant to reappear. Only now the white noise has been replaced by the distant murmur of voices. The background Mickey was walking against has begun to distort in ways painful for the human eye to see, and Mickey himself is smirking unpleasantly.

From then on, the cartoon supposedly becomes a nightmare. A scream starts to rise up on the soundtrack as Mickey himself seems to decay, his eyeballs falling out and his grin getting ever wider. Impossible colors begin flickering across the screen, burning rubble rises in the background, and then it is said that nobody knows what happens next. The only Disney employee to ever watch to the end committed suicide shortly after. All he left was a note describing the final frame: a piece of Russian text that translates as "the sights of hell bring its viewers back in." And now, it is somewhere out there on the Internet, waiting for you to find it.

5 Most Evil People in History
5. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was and Iranian religious leader for a decade beginning in 1979. He had led the Iranian Revolution during which up to sixty thousand people were killed. The doctrine of the Shia Islamic Law was incredible strict, enforcing specific dress codes and eliminating equal rights. Brutal punishments were administered for breaking the rules. People were sent to prison and tortured just for listening to music. Anyone caught sharing a kiss in public was given one hundred lashes.

Those who chose not to believe in Allah were tortured and murdered by shooting, hanging, gassing, stabbing, stoning or burning. Anyone caught stealing would have a hand amputated, people were blinded and women's faces were slashed or damaged with acid. During the Iranian Massacres of 1988, everyone who was serving time in prison was killed. Over five months more than thirty thousand people lost their lives, including children who were hung from cranes. Khomeini kept fifty two American nationals hostage. Some were imprisoned for more than four hundred days, some spent six years in captivity. The hostages were blindfolded for their entire imprisonment.

Khomeini wasn't content with just ruling Iran, he had ambitions to conquer the Middle East. Saddam Hussein decided to attack first and between one and two million people were killed during the Iran Iraq war. Children were sent to fight by Khomeini. Saddam Hussein attempted peace talks but to no avail. The economy of Iran crashed and up to a million Iranian people died during this time. Khomeini's aggression towards the US is thought to have been the beginning of terrorist thinking, inspiring groups such as Al Qaeda. He is also thought to have inspired the Islamic Holy War during which over two million people died. In 1989 Khomeini lost his own fight, with cancer.

4. Delphine LaLaurie
When Delphine LaLaurie's New Orleans house caught fire in 1834, the emergency services who attended the scene made some very disturbing discoveries.Two people who were clearly being kept as slaves were found inside the house, chained up to the stove in the kitchen. Both were found to have had terrible injuries afflicted upon them during their life. But this was just the start. Upstairs in the attic more than twelve bodies were found, all of them chained to the floor or the walls.

They bore the disfigurement of serious abuse, having suffered a range of medical experiments conducted upon them by LaLaurie. She had trialled sex change surgery, had broken limbs and reset them in odd positions, performed amputations and taken flesh samples. Some of her victims had had their mouths sewn up, resulting in them dying of starvation. There were some victims who had had their hands attached to other parts of their bodies. LaLaurie never paid for her crimes as she escaped and went into hiding.

3. Beverly Allitt Nurse
Beverley Gail Allitt is said to be amongst the top ten most evil women of all time. Dubbed the Angel of Death, she killed four children and tried to kill another three. And that's not all, she also caused grievous bodily harm to another six. These terrible deeds were committed in 1991 whilst Allit was working in a children's hospital ward in Lincolnshire. It was found that two of the children had been given massive overdoses of insulin whilst another child was found to have a big air bubble inside their body. How the other children were killed and injured remains uncertain. Allitt was sentenced to life in prison, thirteen times over, when she was put on trial in 1993. The judge emphasised that Allitt posed a serious threat to society and would probably reamin in jail for the rest of her life.

2. Adolf Hitler
The German Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, was the leader of Germany between 1933 and 1945. As a young man he had aspirations of becoming an artist but these were not realised when he failed to gain admittance to art school. He enlisted as a solider in the German army during the First World War. He was furious when Germany surrendered. After returning to Germany at the end of the war, Hitler began considering the role of the Jews in terms of the problems Germany was facing.

He blamed the Jews for everything and his bitterness developed into a belief that Jews were not human beings at all. He began to plan for the elimination of all of Europe's Jews. Part of this plan included the fulfilment of his ambition to control the entire world. Hitler believed that the power of persuasion could achieve anything and propaganda was a fundamental strategy in his plans. Hitler took to killing anyone who stood against him. He would experiment on hospital inpatients for new methods of killing people; one thing he trialled in this way was the use of carbon dioxide gas.

More than three hundred thousand people were killed due to Hitler's experiments. Hitler rounded up all of the Jews living in Germany and put them into concentration camps. Jews living in other countries were not safe from this threat and over ninety percent of Polish Jews died during this time. Those incarcerated in these prison camps were put to work. Some died from overwork whilst others were killed in the gas chambers. This wasn't the only way that Hitler killed the people in the camps. He also used a firing squad, death marches, the lethal injection, starvation, poisoning and medical experimentation.

Many people died from disease, starvation and exposure too. The Jewish people were forced to watch their friends and family die. The lives of millions of children were lost because of Hitler's breeding programme. Children were judged against the Nazi scale of perfection and those found to be lacking were executed. He wasn't loyal to friends and allies and would betray them without a second thought. Over eleven million people were killed as a direct result of Hitler's power.

This figure includes six million Jewish people, three million Polish people and another three million Russian people, seven hundred and fifty thousand Slavs, half a million gypsies, one hundred thousand people suffering from mental illness, another hundred thousand Freemasons, five thousand Jehovah's Witnesses and fifteen thousand homosexual people. In all, more than fifty million people died due to Hitler's actions. He died in 1945 when he commit suicide after taking cyanide poisoning then shooting himself.

1. Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was the dictator at the helm of the Soviet Union for thirty-one years, between 1922 and 1953. Prior to his appointment to government, he had been an assassin, a bank robber and an agitator. It took him many years to progress to his place in power and he turned into a ruthless, aggressive, vengeful dictator who was ruled by his paranoia, bringing terror, violence and murder to his country. Those who crossed him were put to death so woe betide anyone who attempted to spy on him or anger him in any way. Anyone who voted against him suffered the same fate.

His ambition was to promote the Soviet Union to an industrial superpower but in working towards this goal many, many people were killed. Soviet citizens were forced into slave labour, many literally being worked to death. Enormous industrial schemes were established and became a source of perhaps millions of people's misery. Stalin's name appears on tens of thousands of death warrants. The only way to escape Stalin's brutality was to adhere to his word entirely. Anyone who spoke against him, who displayed independence or intelligence, was subjected to torture, imprisonment or murdered.

Family made no difference to Stalin and he was as likely to murder his supporters families as he was his enemies; in fact, he murdered the parents of a girl he had made a favourite of. She believed that he extended his love for her to her family, but she was wrong. He is even said to have had wives of his friends killed. Stalin's family didn't escape his ruthlessness either. He sent his daughter's boyfriend into exile and his wife commit suicide in order to escape his horrific treatment.

When his son was captured and put into a Nazi concentration camp, Stalin would not make a trade for his release; his son died in the camp. The means of murder were varied and brutal: it's said that Stalin even had people killed with ice picks. It wasn't only by brute force that people lost their lives. During Stalin's time in power, around ten million people starved to death. He is known to have said that an individual death can be regarded as a tragedy but in high numbers deaths are merely a statistic.

Stalin showed no respect for those who were fighting for his country during the Second World War, even having Soviet soldiers killed. Prisoners were released in order to join the army; when they returned from war, even if they were injured, they were thrown back in prison. He was just as brutal to people from other countries with hundreds of thousands of foreigners raped, tortured and murdered; one and a half million women from Germany were raped by Stalin's men. Stalin regularly used mustard gas explosives to kill large numbers of people. His aim was for his country to become as strong as America, with the ultimate goal being to take on the United States. He was responsible for the deaths of up to sixty million people. He lived until 1953 when he died after having a stroke.

5. John Hill
Ottumwa is a small city in southern Iowa and it is home to a disturbing unsolved mystery. Early on the morning of November of 22, 1976, two men walked into the Ottumwa Launderette and in a small room they found the dead body of the 51 year old owner of the launderette John Hill. He had been stabbed multiple times and shot. The police were called to the scene and they found a .25 caliber handgun on the floor near Hill's body.

Near the entrance of the launderette the police found five bullet holes. The police concluded that Hill died as a result of a robbery gone wrong. Hill fired his gun five times at the robber and missed with each shot. The robber attacked Hill stabbing and shooting him. The police said that it was a long drawn-out struggle. Then the killer did something really unusual.

Despite having multiple gunshots go off, which would have drawn a lot of attention, the killer took the time to write something in the victim's blood at the crime scene. It either said black or lack and then the second word was older. The police are unsure what the words refer to or their significance. There were two suspects in the case who are a couple, but neither were charged because they had strong alibis. Unfortunately the case has never been solved and Hill's family is still looking for answers as to who is responsible for his brutal and senseless murder.

4. Tracey Neilson
After a day of classes at Medical School on January 5, 1981, Jeff Neilson returned home to the apartment that he shared with his wife of five months, Tracy Nielsen, in Moore Oklahoma It was Tracey's birthday, she had turned 21. When Jeff got to the apartment he found the door unlocked. Inside the apartment, he found Tracy on the bed. She was lying face up. Her throat had been slit and she had been stabbed multiple times in the chest. During the police investigation they were quickly able to rule Jeff out as a suspect. What the police learned is that on the morning of her birthday, Tracy ran around and did some errands.

Then a neighbor saw Tracy finishing up her chores around the apartment at about noon. During the afternoon her friends and family have been calling to wish her a happy birthday but no one answered the phone. The medical examiner placed her time of death at some time around noon. She had not been sexually assaulted. There was no evidence of a break-in and there was no signs of a struggle inside the apartment. Robbery doesn't appear to be a motive because there was only one item missing from the apartment. It was a one inch by four inch keychain that Tracy used, which had her name on it.

The police think that the killer took it with him as a souvenir. The killer left several clues in the apartment, notably a single fingerprint but unfortunately no match to it has ever been found. The second clue is a cable ticket book from Southwestern Bell for cable repair, which may explain how the killer got into the apartment without breaking in or forcing his way in because Tracy may have let him in since he was a repairman.

The last ticket in the book lists Tracy's address as the service address Whoever filled out the ticket said that the work was completed and then they signed or initialed it at the bottom. The ticket said that the work was finished at 11:51 a.m. on the day of the murder. The police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are hoping that someone will recognize the signature or the handwriting Since the murder the police have followed up on 1500 leads, but after 35 years they are no closer to figuring out who killed Tracy Nielsen on her 21st birthday.

3. Gary Grant Jr.
January 12 1984, was a Thursday, but 7-year-old Gary Grant Jr. of Atlantic City, New Jersey, had the day off of school because there was a teacher conference. Gary left his house at about 2:30 in the afternoon and he told his mother that he had an appointment. His mother never thought to ask what he meant by appointment. Gary was supposed to return home by four o'clock and when he didn't, his mother called the police His neighborhood was searched and two days after he went missing his body was found two blocks from his house in the vacant lot.

The 7-year-old had been bludgeoned to death with a metal pipe. The last person seen with gary was his 12-year old friend Carl Mason, whose nickname was "Boo." The police interviewed Carl, who has developmental disability and was smaller than Gary, without a guardian or a lawyer present and he confessed to the murder. He was arrested and sent to juvenile detention. Once he was incarcerated Carl said that he was innocent.

He was given two polygraph tests; one was inconclusive and the other showed that he was telling the truth about being innocent. The judge eventually threw out the confession and Carl was released. Not long afterwards, the investigation into Gary's murder frosted over. This was especially tough on Gary Grant Sr., who was a police officer with the Atlantic City Police Department.

On January 4, 1986, a message was found scrawled on the side of an Atlantic City police car. It read: "Gary Grant's dead. I am living. Another will die on January 12th if all goes right." January 12th was the second anniversary of Gary's murder. Luckily, January 12th, came and went and no one was murdered in Atlantic City on that day. A few weeks later, a second message was found. This time it was scratched onto a sidewalk. It said: "Gary Grant Jr. lives. I still killed him. Son of the pig officer. Payback is a M.F."

The last message led to speculation that grant may have been killed and his payback against his father because he arrested somebody. However, that theory has never been proven. In fact, to this day the police are uncertain if the killer actually wrote the messages or if they were just a horrible prank. The case has sat cold ever since. The new clue emerged in 2006. Gary Grant senior was converting some audio tapes to mp3 files when he came across one that was labeled phone calls.

On the audiotape, he heard the following call that was made to the 911 dispatch on March 8, 1986, weeks after the messages were found. This wasn't the only mysterious phone call on the audiotape A few weeks after the bizarre confession, the 911 dispatch received a second strange phone call regarding the murder of Gary Grant. The caller didn't identify themselves but they accused the man of killing Gary because his father was a cop. The man's name was never made public because he was never charged.

Gary Grant Sr. knows the man, but says that he never had a problem with him. We should also point out that the accused man was arrested in 2011 for sexual contact with a child under the age of five and child endangerment. He ended up pleading guilty to child endangerment in 2013. Again, it is unclear at the calls are genuine or just a disturbing prank. Tragically, despite his father conducting his own investigation the murder of Gary Grant Jr. remains unsolved.

2. The Freeway Phantom
The evening of April 25th, 1971, was a warm one in Prince George's County, Maryland, and it was just an ordinary Sunday for 13-year-old Carol Spinks and her family. Around dinnertime Carol's older sister asked her to walk to the 7-Eleven, which was about a half a mile away from the family's home to pick up some TV dinners, bread and soft drinks Carol made it to the store and purchased her items but then she disappeared on her way home. Her body was found six days later on a grassy embankment next to a highway.

A few months later on the morning of July 8, 16-year-old Darleina Johnson, who lived a few blocks away from Carol, left her home to go to her summer job at a local recreation center. Sadly, she never made it to work. Her body was found 11 days after she went missing. She had been dumped about 15 feet away from where Carroll's body was found. 19 days after Darlenia disappeared 10-year-old Brenda Crockett was sent to the store by her mother.

When she didn't return home her family searched the neighborhood for her. Three hours after Brenda left for the store, her, 7-year-old sister was at home and the phone rang. She answered it and it was Brenda. She was crying. She said that a white man picked her up and she was heading home in the cab. She also said that she thought she was in Virginia. she then hung up the phone quickly. Minutes later the phone rang again.

Brenda's mother's boyfriend answered it this time. Again it was Brenda calling. She repeated what she told her sister and then she added that she was alone in the house with a man. The boyfriend told Brenda to put the man on the phone to tell him where she was and he'd come get her. Brenda then asked, "Did my mother see me?" The boyfriend responded, "How could she see you when you're in Virginia? Tell the man to come to the phone."

The boyfriend then heard the sound of heavy footsteps and Brenda said "I'll see you..." And then the line went dead. Hours later Brenda's body was found along the highway in Prince George's County. Her body wasn't hidden like the first two victims. She had been raped and strangled to death. A scarf was tied around her neck. The police think that the killer made Brenda call her home to give them false information to throw investigators off his track.

On October 8, 12 year old Nenomoshia Yates went missing while walking home from the store in Prince George's County Her corpse was found dumped along the side of the road just hours after she went missing She had been raped and strangled Then around 10:25 on November 15, 18 year-old Brenda Woodward was seen getting off the bus to transfer to another one Her body was found near an access ramp early the next morning. She had been strangled and stabbed.

Her coat was then laid gently over her body in her coat pocket there was a note that said: A handwriting analysis was performed on the note and the handwriting expert said that the note was written by Brenda herself; meaning the Phantom dictated the note to her. At this point the FBI was called in and they got thousands of tips, but none of the tips led anywhere. Around the same time that the FBI got involved the killer took a hiatus. But then on September 5, 1972, he popped back up again On that day, witnesses saw 17-year-old Diane William heading home on the bus after visiting her boyfriend, but she never made it home she was found strangled to death off the side of the road hours after she was seen exiting the bus After the murder of Diane Williams the Freeway Phantom killings came to it end.

Over the course of two years he claimed at least six lives. All the girls were between the ages of 10 and 18 and all of them were african-american. The FBI continued to work on the case but then in 1974 they reassigned the agents that were working on the case because manpower was needed to investigate the Watergate scandal and the freeway phantom killings went cold. In the ensuing years cold-case investigators have continued to look into the string of murders.

One conclusion they drew, which is based on the areas where the girls were kidnapped and the locations where their bodies were dumped, that the Phantom's anchor spot is Congress Heights, which is a neighborhood in Washington DC, suggesting that he lived or worked in the area during the time of the murders. There have been several attempts to pull testable DNA from evidence left on the victims, but so far they have not been able to. They also found fibers from a green synthetic carpet on five of the six girls, however they have not been able to find the carpet that it belongs to.

Finally, something that may just be a total coincidence, but three of the six victims had the middle name Denise Over the years the police have had over 100 potential suspects. The strongest suspect is a man named Robert Askins. Before the freeway phantom murders he had been charged with murder three different times and he was convicted of one of them in 1938 proposing a prostitute with cyanide He was released 20 years later because of a legal technicality.

In 1977, Askins was arrested for raping a 24 year old woman in his house after the arrest the police searched his house. In his desk, they found his appellate court opinion and in one of the footnotes was the word "tantamount" However, there's no physical evidence tying Askins to the Freeway Phantom murders and he was never charged Askins ended up being found guilty of raping and kidnapping the 24 year old woman and he was sentenced to life in prison in the late 1970s He died in prison in 2010, at the age of 91, without ever confessing to the Freeway Phantom murders. The police are hoping that in the future some new technology will help them crack the case

1. Jeanne French, Elizabeth Short, Mimi Boomhower and Jean Spangler
February 10, 1947, was a Monday, and a construction worker on his way to work happened upon a woman's body in a field off of an isolated road in West Los Angeles. The body was identified as 45-year-old Jeanne French. When she was in her 30s, Jean was a pioneering female aviator, but in 1947, her glory days were long gone.

She was estranged from her fourth husband, Frank French who possibly suffered from PTSD, and was supposedly abusive. Jeanne herself was an alcoholic who liked to go out and party. On the night before her body was found, Jeanne was having dinner and drinks at a diner with two men During the meal she got up from the table and made a phone call. From the way she talked on the phone a waitress at the diner could tell that Jeanne was drunk on the phone Jeanne said, "don't bring a bottle the landlord doesn't allow it."

She then yelled over to the two men that she was dining with not to put any liquor in the car and not to take any liquor. About two hours later Jeanne was alone and she stopped in at a drive-in diner where she had coffee with the owner. She talked about her troubles and complained about her estranged husband Frank.

At 10:30, Jeanne was seen at a bar where she told the other patrons that she was going to commit her husband to the neuropsychiatric ward at the Veterans Hospital the following day Jeanne then made her way over to her estranged husband's rooming house. She asked him to come out with her and he turned her down. She hit him in the head with her purse and left. Next, Jeanne was seen at another drive-in diner with a man who had a dark complexion and was small to medium in size People remembered them because the man bragged about leaving a large tip.

After the diner, Jeanne and her friend were seen at a bar They were there from 1:30 until 2:00 when the bar closed as it closed. The bartender Jeanne arguing with her friend. When the bartender stepped out of the bar, he saw Jeanne and her friend get into an old beat-up sedan and they drove off into the night. Then, just hours later, James body was found in the field by the construction worker.

Jeanne had been viciously beaten and stomped. She had massive internal bleeding, her heart was punctured, her neck was broken. On her torso someone had written "F--- you B.D.and under it were the letters "T-E-X" The message was written in Jeanne's lipstick. The police and the media immediately knew what BD stood for. It stood for Black Dahlia.

Just four weeks before Jeanne French was beaten to death, 22-year-old Elizabeth Short's body was found in los angeles Short had been cut in half and her intestines had been removed. Her body was drained of blood, her skin was scrubbed, and her lips were slashed from ear to ear, making it look like she had a horrifying smile.

Like Jeanne French, Short had been dumped in the field. Supposedly Short also had something written on her body in lipstick. It was too small swear words. Eight days after Short's body was found, the story dropped from the front page and an editor at the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner got a call from someone claiming to be the Black Dahlia Avenger The caller told the editor that it seemed like they were running out of material on the Black Dahlia murder, so he would send them some of Short's personal belongings, like her birth certificate and her address book.

Sure enough, a package arrived at the newspaper two days later which containing several personal items that belong to Short. A note was also included with the belongings indicating that a letter would follow Four letters were sent in all. They were all signed off as the Black Dahlia Avenger, but the police are unsure at the letters were from the killer or from someone who knew Short well enough, or who had access to her apartment, like a landlord.

The police were hesitant to say that the killings of Short and Jeanne branch were connected The victims did share similar physical features, but the methods of the murders were very different from one another Newspapers, on the other hand, thought that one person was responsible for both murders. Instead of focusing on the serial killer theory when investigating Jean French's murder, the police immediately looked at the most likely culprit in any murder - the romantic partner of the victim.

After all, Frank did seem like a plausible suspect. The couple did have a volatile relationship and Frank did see her on a night that she died. Frank's swore that he had nothing to do with the murder and he took a lie detector test to prove it. He ultimately passed the polygraph test. The police interviewed Jeanne's son and he said that Frank had tolerated a lot from his mother and that she was more than capable of getting herself into trouble.

After that, Frank was dropped as a suspect. However, without Frank the police were out of suspects. Nothing happened with the case for two years. But then two years later, there was another odd case that happened in Los Angeles that may or may not be related to the murders of Jean French and Elizabeth Short.

On August 18, 1949, a friend talked to 48 year old Mimi Boomhower over the phone sometime between seven o'clock and eight o'clock p.m. The call was upbeat and the women talked about an upcoming social event. However that day was the sixth anniversary of Boomhower's husband's death. Later that night, the police were summoned to her upscale house. The front door was open her lights were on and her car was in her garage.

Inside the house there was a salad on the table that Boomhower didn't eat, there was fresh food in the kitchen, and a dress that had recently been worn was lying on the bed. The house showed no signs of a struggle and nothing was out of place. However, the 48 year old widow was nowhere to be found. The immediate conclusion was that Boomhower who was having financial problems committed suicide.

In fact, on the night that she disappeared she was supposed to meet an unidentified man at her house. She was hoping that the man would be interested in purchasing the house. Boomhower's friends and family said that she seemed happy with her life, and was looking forward to upcoming social events so they thought it was unlikely that she would have killed herself Five days after she went missing her purse was found in a telephone booth in a supermarket in Los Angeles.

Nothing appeared to be missing from her purse but written on its side big letters was: "Police Department found this on the beach on Thursday." Thursday was the night that Boomhower disappeared. The purse didn't show any traces of seawater or sands weeks. After Boomhauer disappeared from her house, another woman in Los Angeles disappeared.

26 year old Jean Spangler was an actress that had bit parts in movies and she had recently acquired a powerful agents. On October 7, 1949 she walked out of her front door to go to the farmers market and she never returned home. Two days later, her purse was found at the entrance to a nearby park. One strap had been ripped and inside the purse was a note that read: The police looked into her disappearance and discovered that Spangler was three months pregnant leading to speculation that Dr. Scott was an abortionist.

However, they were never able to find out the true identity of Dr. Scott. Rhe police were also unsure who Kirk was and then they received a rather unusual phone call from movie star Kirk Douglas. He was on vacation and called specifically to tell the police that he wasn't the Kirk in the letter. The police thought that this was suspicious because they never considered him to be the Kirk in the letter. Because of the bizarre call, the police considered Douglas a suspect, and then they discover that Spangler had recently acted in a movie that had yet to be a release, which starred Kirk Douglas, However, Kirk Douglas was eventually cleared in the disappearance.

The bodies of Mimi Boomhower and Jean Spangler have never been found. Newspapers at the time thought that the murders and the disappearances were all connected, but the LAPD weren't convinced. Unfortunately, the LAPD never brought anyone to justice for any of the crimes. However, there is at least one former LAPD homicide detective who thinks that the crimes are all connected, but he didn't join the force until decades after the murders and disappearances Steve Hodel, who is now retired from the LAPD, believes that his father who was an unusual and sadistic doctor named George Hill Hodel is responsible for the four crimes plus five other murders.

George Hodel was on the police's radar and he was a suspect in the Elizabeth Short murder because of an incident that happened in 1945. His secretary died of a drug overdose, but the police thought that Dr. Hodel had killed her to cover up some financial fraud. The police weren't able to prove anything conclusively and Dr. Hodel was never charged.

After his father died in 1999, he wrote several books on the Black Dahlia murder arguing that his father is the real killer. For his investigation, he had the handwriting on Boomhower's purse compared to his father's handwriting, and the examiner said that was highly probable that it was the same handwriting. The theory of George Hodel being the murder of Short and the other women is still controversial. It is even unclear if one person is responsible for all the murders and the disappearances. Unfortunately, there's a good chance that these cases may never be solved.

10 Creepy Urban Legends From Around the World
1. Meat Is Murder (Germany)
The legend goes that in post-war Berlin a woman who was walking through a crowd one day saw a blind man struggling. She offered to help him. He told her he was trying to deliver a letter - would she take it for him? It was on the way she was heading, so she said 'sure'. She set off with the letter, but remembered to check and see if the blind man was doing okay. She caught sight of him without his glasses and cane, hurrying down an alley. Feeling suspicious, she went to the police. When they went to the address on the letter she'd been given, they found bags of human flesh. The letter itself read: "This is today's serving". 1947 was known as the "Year of Hunger' in Germany, a country recently decimated by World War Two. People avoided starvation by eating what they could find: dogs, cats, rats, frogs, snails, as this rumor attests to, people.

2. The Well To Hell (Russia)
In 1984 a team of Russian scientists drilled deeper than ever before into the Earth's crust. It was on a remote peninsula in Northern Russia that hell was purportedly discovered, 12 kilometers below the surface. Supposeedly they through a point that reached 2000 degrees when the drill started sspinning strangely. They lowered their microphones in to take measurements and listened. It was then that they heard thousands of human voices, all screaming in agony. Were they souls trapped in hell? An explosion followed and a winged devil burst from the hole in the ground, killing 13 of the workers.
The story was reported around the world, but originated with a Christian group in Finland that heard of the experimental drilling. As might be expected, this is an exaggeration that has compounded over the years.

3. The Crying Boy (UK)
In 1985 The Sun newspaper in Britain printed a story title 'Blazing Curse of the Crying Boy'. The Crying Boy in question was a painting by Giovanni Bragolin that was found in perfect condtion after a house had been burned inside out. What's more, a firefighter at the scene said he knew of numerous other fires where the 'Crying Boy' painting had been. An investigation was carried out, but not before panicked members of the public began throwing their paintings onto bonfires. Over 50,000 versions of the cursed painting had been sold at this point. The investigators found that the paintings were varnished with flame retardant and so survived the fires. Although this didn't explain why no other varnished paintings were turning up.

4. The Lucifer Statue (Philippines)
Satan standing triumphant over Angel Michael makes for an odd sight in the Catholic Philippines. This is the grave of Don Simeon Bernardo, who ordered the statue be placed there on his death in 1934. Bernardo was tortured and, as a result, didn't have particularly rosy view of the world.

The evil on display shocked residents, but it's just a statue - or is it?

Locals say the statue was initially much smaller than it currently is and has been growing over the years. Others say that the demon files off at night so the wrought iron cage has been places around the statue to keep it from escaping. The surprising truth is that the statue has grown, but in a sort of self-fulfilling prophesy. Phone to vandalism due to its irreligious nature the damaged statue was replaced by a slightly larger version in the 1970s and protected from abuse by a large cage.


5. Kaala Bandar (India)
Fifteen years ago mass hysteria swept the city of Delhi in India. During a 5-day period, the terrifying Kala Bandar roamed the streets. It pounced on people in the middle of the night, gouging their arms and necks. Described as 4 feet tall, with the horrifying face of a chimp and bearing iron claws, it was given the nickname the 'Monkey-Man of Delhi'. One man even fell to his death when he thought he saw the Monkey-Man. Another eyewitness described the terrifying situation: "The creature had its hands on my tights when I woke up. When my mother picked up a broomstick, it jumped out of the balcony". No monkey, man or monkey-man was ever caught, but the legend of Kala Bandar lives on, frightening children.

6. Under The Bed (USA)
This is a classic from the USA, a teenage girl is home alone and starts to receive strange messages on to her phone. She keeps ignoring the messages and carries on watching TV, putting them out of her mind. When the messages become more threatening, she phone the police, who trace the messages and tell her that they are coming from within the house! Just a story, right? Well in 2014 one 16-year-old girl started receiving some pretty scary texts. But she thought it was all a joke. She went to bed and just before she fell asleep she received the text: "I'm in your house!" The man had broken in and was hiding underneath her bed. Thankfully though, the police caught him in time.

7. Sacamantecas (Spain)
In Spanish, Sacamantecas means 'fat extractor' and is a kind of disguised monster or drifter that steals the fat from children to feed on. The myth is thought to have begun with Spain's first recorded serial killer, Manuel Blanco Romasanta. In the late 19th Century, Romasanta was convicted of killing 13 people. He rendered their fat in order to make high quality soap, which he then sold - along with the victims'clothes. Romasanta was only one of several people caught for selling human fat in this era and so the myth of the Sacamantecas was born and used to frighten children into behaving.

8. The Black Volga (Poland)
The Black Volga was a classic Russian car and signified wealth and status in the Soviet States during the Cold War. If one was ever seen stalking the Warsaw cith streets, people would flee because it was said that the people inside kidnapped children. No one ever saw who was driving them. One story suggested that the Soviet leader Brezhnev was mortally ill and requested the blood of children to keep his hold on the empire. The Volgas, which were associated with Soviet officials, went out to abduct children and drain them of their young blood. Other versions of the story described the blood being sold to wealthy Arabs to cure leukemia or spoke of vicars, nuns, Satanists, and even the devil driving the car and making children disappear.

9. El Chupacabra (Puerto Rico)
The goat-sucking, spiny and reptile-like Chupacabra was first seen in 1995 in Puerto Rico. This modern legendary beast is thought to drain the blood, vampire-like, from the livestock of Central and South American farmers. The uproar around the first sighting, in which 150 animals were killed, led to a year of weekly chupacabra hunts around Puerto Rico. To unearth the origin of this monster, Benjamin Radford of the Skeptical Inquirer tracked down Madelyne Tolentino, the woman who first reported seeing the creature. He had a hunch: there was a sci-fi B-Movie called 'Species' that featured a creature in the final act that was remarkably similar to her description.nWhat's more, Species was set in Puerto Rico, it came out in the weeks before the first Chupacabra sighting, and Madelyne Tolentino had watched it.

10. Kuchisake Onna (Japan)
Japan never fails to disappoint with creepy myths and ghosts. Kuchisake-Onna is the malicious spirit of a woman who wears a surgical mask. She appears and asks you: "Am I Pretty?" If you say no. she kills you on the spot. If you say yes, she removes her surgical mask to reveal the her mouth has been slit at the corners like The Joker, and then asks:"How about now?" If you say no, she cuts you in half. But if you say yes, she slits your mouth to look like hers. This tale caused widespread panic the the late 1970s. Schools arranged for students to walk home in groups because of their fear of being attracked by the ghost. There is even a rumor that a coroner's report from 1979 showed a woman who'd been hit by a car - in pursuit of a child who had her cheeks slit.

When you think of assassins, you probably think of agile, methodic, secretive characters that hide in the shadows, but as it turns out, some of the deadliest assassins of all time were not only not that secretive, but they had some of the craziest methods for carrying out their work that you will not believe. Here are the 10 deadliest assassins of all time.

10. Axe-Wielding Bear
17th century Swiss political leader Jorg Jenatsch's murder might be the most bearish assassination in history, pun intended. Jenatsch was a vicious Protestant leader with contempt for Spanish Catholics. He even pinned his political rival, Pompeius von Planta, to the floor and murdered him. Well flash forward 18 years to Carnival in the town of Chur. Jorg is drinking with his entourage, all in costume, so no one thinks twice about inviting a man in a bear costume, who's wielding an axe, to the revelry. Jorg tried to shake the bear's hand, but it was Rudolph von Planta, son of Pompeius in disguise, who shot his father's murderer in the stomach, and yet, Jenatsch still grabbed a giant candlestick and was able to fight back before eventually just dying. You know, I get it, the guy was in a bear costume, all snugly snugly, oh how cute, but the guy was holding an axe. Yep, nobody would have saw that coming, big sharp axe in your face.

9. Exotic Dancer Spy
World War I in Europe was an incredibly dangerous place to be, and in the rationale of the time, no place for a woman. But don't tell that to Margaretha MacLeod. This German intelligence officer is considered to be the greatest woman spy of the 20th century, but what's most interesting is that she went by the name Mata Hari, an exotic dancer who performed the dance of seven veils across Europe for English and French soldiers. MacLeod had a Dutch passport, so she could freely travel around wartime Europe, taking many high-ranking officers as lovers, many of whom she murdered before stealing military secrets. Hari ended up passing along her stolen intel to the Germans, that led to the deaths of almost 50,000 French soldiers. Even after she was caught as a spy and executed, she was a flirt, blowing a kiss at the firing squad before they shot her in 1917.

8. She-Tiger
Just like Hari, this person used her femininity and sexual prowess to fight for Basque independence from Spain in the 1980s. Known as La Tigresa, meaning The She-Tiger, she was a dedicated commando in the ETA, which stands for Basque Homeland in Liberty. She was responsible for 23 deaths. Specifically in 1986 at the age of just 20, La Tigresa set a car bomb in Madrid that killed 12 civil guards, another car bomb that killed five civilians, and seduced a police officer in order to gain access to police stations, before shooting him and another five police officers. In 2003, she was sentenced to 2,000 years in jail, but in 2011, apologized, and unbelievably was released early in June of 2017.

7. The Iceman
Richard Leonard Kuklinksi is considered America's most prolific contract killer, nicknamed The Iceman, because he froze his victims to hide the time of their death. He was only ever convicted for two murders, but claims to have killed up to 250 people over 30 years. That means one murder every six weeks. Kuklinski was the go-to killer for the Gambino mafia crime family, and unlike many other serial killers, he had no routine. Specifically, he would use guns, knives, bats, lumber, tire irons, ice picks, fire, cyanide, and even his bare fists, that he claimed he did for the exercise. Oh yes, getting a good one in today. The strangest thing is that when he wasn't murdering people for money, he was a family man living a quiet life in New Jersey. He was even an usher in his church, but his luck ran out in 1988 when he was sentenced to two life sentences, but freely spoke about his crimes up until his death in 2006.

6. The Superkiller
Agent 47 from the video game Hitman was actually inspired by Alexander Solonik, known as The Superkiller to the Russian criminal underworld. As a Soviet special forces member in East Berlin, he was tasked as an assassin of NATO diplomats. Believe it or not, what landed him in jail was not murders, but a rape conviction, and he ended up breaking out of the Siberian gulag and became a hit man for hire. He immediately started taking out high-ranking Russian mafia bosses, protected by armies of bodyguards, and he'd either do this as a sniper from great distances, or show up at nightclubs and kill his target and crew with dual pistols blaring. Police eventually caught up with him in 1995, but he ended up taking out five cops with a hidden machine gun before eventually returning to jail, escaping again, and created his own 50-strong assassin squad in Greece. Eventually he was found strangled in Athens in 1997. How appropriate, an assassin was assassinated, that's just irony.

5. Caesarea
In 1989, Palestinian political organization Hamas's chief weapons maker, Mahmoud al Habu, shot an Israeli soldier in cold blood. However, Israel had the last laugh in 2010, after Habu's body was discovered in the luxury Al Bustan Rotana in Dubai. His cause of death was a brain hemorrhage, which seemed improbable, so Dubai investigators looked into it. What they discovered was that 27 people from Massad's Caesarea unit flew in under different passports and left soon after. A German immigration attorney ended up discovering that multiple people in the Caesarea forged identities and documents to acquire German passports used to enter Dubai without notice. Seriously, these people must be really good at what they do, because I can't even bring a dang bottle of water through the airport, it's like I'm a criminal.

4. The Cartel Hit Man
Martin Corona's book Confessions of a Cartel Hit Man, released in July of 2017, details his violent life as an enforcer for the Arellano-Felix organization. It was this organization that inspired the movie Traffic, with their sadistic methods like Mexican stew, where they stuffed men into 55 gallon drums of hot lye. Corona was recruited to David Popeye Barin's death squad in 1993 after he saved Ramon Arellano's life fighting off 40 gunmen sent by the El Chapo Guzman, with a single AK-47. This guy's like an assassin Rambo. He tried to retaliate against El Chapo inside the Guadalajara Airport, but missed, but he still continued on to a long and lucrative murder for hire spree on both sides of the US-Mexico border. He would often wear disguises to trick his victims, like nerdy glasses, but in 2000, he turned on his bosses, working with the California Justice Department to dismantle the AFO.

3. The Camel
Jesus Ernesto Chavez Castillo's street gang, Barrio Azteca, were the Juarez drug cartel's go-to hit men until 2014. That was, until Castillo testified against his former boss, Arturo Gallegos Castrellon. Chavez confessed to 800 murders, but says that he lost count, and claims to have had a daily murder quota to instill fear in cops, politicians, and the people of Cuidad Juarez, the murder capital of the world. His confessions came after Mexican police allegedly tortured him with electric shocks to the testicles. But killing wasn't enough to please his boss, Castrellon, so he would often dismember and behead his victims, leaving their bodies in public places to make sure he made headlines. Unbelievably, since his imprisonment at the end of the drug cartel war, the Juarez murder rate dropped by two thirds.

2. The Political Assassin
Photographer Burhan Ozbilici's stark image of Mevlut Mert Altintas with a gun and his finger in the air while Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov lies dead beside him, was declared 2016's photo of the year. The Ankara Modern Arts Center was hosting an exhibition created by the Russian embassy on December 19th, 2016. Ambassador Karlov was a few minutes into his speech about improving strained Turkish-Russian relations when a man in a suit shot him nine times in the back, shouting "revenge for Syria and Aleppo." The gunman, who engaged in a 15-minute shootout with police before ultimately being killed, was Altintas. He was an off-duty member of the Ankara police riot squad and a member of the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda. Man, even police are assassins, you can't trust anybody.

1. The Lady Killers
Kim Jong Nam was a playboy living in exile when he was suddenly poisoned in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia on Valentine's Day 2016. His assassins were Indonesians Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, who sprayed the poison in his face, claiming it was a prank. The reason that they were so unsuspecting was because Miss Huong was wearing really casual clothing, specifically a sweater that said "LOL" on it. Well, getting sprayed in the face with a V.X. nerve agent isn't exactly LOL. It's more like OMG.

10. Delphine LaLaurie

Perhaps the real inspiration for American Horror Story season three, Delphine LaLaurie inspired her slaves to commit suicide. The reason? They were trying to get away from her lucid torture schemes. LaLaurie would keep droves of slaves on the brink of death and starvation, seemingly for her own enjoyment. Sadly, LaLaurie was never arrested, and although rumors of her atrocities run rampant throughout New Orleans, she never suffered the same way she treated those around her.

9. Belle Sorensen Gunness

No, it’s probably not because gun is in her name, or the fact that her children look terrified in every family photo. In what can only be described as ‘gold digging pioneering’, Belle would murder family members for money. After murdering her husband and two of her very own children and cashing in on their life insurance, she moved to Indiana. There, she dropped a meat grinder on her next husband’s head—and then advertised in the paper that she was looking for yet another husband. In gold digging irony, suitors rushed to the ever increasingly wealthy Belle, who murdered them all. Eventually, her whole estate burned to the ground, killing her children and revealing dozens of corpses for police to find. The weird part was, her teeth were found in the ashes—but her body wasn’t.

8. Amy Archer’s Murder House

Amy Archer-Gilligan murdered the elderly for fun. It’s horrible to hear out loud, but listen to this: in the early 1900’s Archer’s Connecticut home for the Elderly and Infirm saw 60 deaths, not including the deaths of several husbands. Eventually, family and friends of the deceased elderly caught on that Archer was feeding poison to her patients and was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder. She died in 1962 in an insane asylum. Asylum sounds too nice for someone like that.

7. Lavinia Fisher

Notoriously famed as the first American serial killer, and perhaps the inspiration for American Horror Story season five, Lavinia Fisher and her husband ran a hotel that—can you guess?—made fun out of murdering guests. What started as murder and robbery turned into an all-out killing spree. It took local police years to nail Lavinia and her husband for their crimes, and the two were eventually sentenced to death in 1820.

6. Jane Toppan

The further we get down this list, the more we see several things. First, women seem to have bored of serial killing as time has gone on, and second, if a woman is a nurse or part of a medical environment, buyer beware! Jane Toppan was no exception. She is famous for casually experiment on her own patients for her own enjoyment. Now, take that sentence seriously, because this next statement might gross you out. She later told authorities that she felt sexual pleasure in watching her victims die. After killing close friends, her landlord, and her sister, time finally caught up with Toppan and she was sent to Taunton Insane Hospital, where she likely Taunted the world for being foolish enough to send her to a place that would give her another 30 years of life.

5. Bertha Gifford

The ‘Textbook’ Case - Falling in line with the majority of serial killers both male and female—Gifford fits the typical profile of, ‘Oh, she was nice and gentle’. Her murderous rampage is a complete surprise’. Gifford was a quiet and unassuming person who apparently was feeding arsenic to patients. No wonder American folklore is drenched in the blood of terrifying hospitals, insane asylums and medical wards. It seems like one in three had a vicious murderer traipsing around in it. Gifford’s body count made it to almost 20 before she was caught.

4. Dorothea Puente

And the modern era of female serial killers. If you’re in the shipping industry, it’s usually a bit taboo to open packages. Well, in 1985, a handyman failed to open a box given to him by Dorothea Puente to dump—and it was a good thing he didn’t open it, as it contained a decomposing human body. Luckily, fisherman found the body days later and reported it to police. After searches began to plague her premises, Puente suffered a devastating blow when police found seven dead bodies buried under her boarding house—where she had been doing most of her killing. She died in 2011.

3. Nannie Doss

Wait a minute. There’s a female serial killer with eleven bodies to her name and her first name is the word we use to describe a profession that takes care of children? Wow. Who okay’d that one? Nannie Doss married at sixteen, and then murdered two of that marriages four children. Unlike virtually every other husband on this list, that guy ran, but the Doss wasn’t done. Doss used this marriage to murder her grandchildren for insurance money. As if she were pissed about the first one getting away, husbands two, three, four, and five were all murdered. Husband five seemed to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, because the police finally nabbed her. Could you imagine husband number one—living his life in fear hearing about all these other guys dying. Who was husband five, by the way? What insane kind of deathwish did he have?

2. Dynamic Duo of Death

Gwendolyn Graham and Cathy Wood, two serial killers with 80’s skin-flick names, murdered elderly patients for sexual pleasure in the 1980’s. You can’t make that up if you want to. Others thought they were however, when Gwen and Cathy bragged about how awesome they were at killing and no one believed them. In 1989, after Cathy’s ex-husband demanded that the police follow up on them, Cathy threw Gwen under the bus and struck a plea deal, resulting in Gwen serving five life sentences while Cathy only got slapped with 20-40 years. The scariest part—she may be released some day.

Some People Just Want to Watch The World Burn. Aileen Wuornos lands at number one. Unlike most of the women on this list, she didn’t use poison. Unlike most of the women on this list, she wasn’t after money. No—Aileen Wuornos wore her heart on her sleeve and her trigger finger itched. What’s insane about Aileen is that her motive, although completely different thab most of the people on this list, is almost all the more insane. For all seven of her victims that she shot in cold blood, she claimed self-defense—because, as she put it—they were trying to rape her. Wuornos claimed self-defense in the face of rape for years—all while she openly plead guilty to the actual murders. With seven counts under her belt, she was sentenced to death in 2002 by lethal injection.

From a cursed painting, to a cursed movie character, we have 10 most bizarre curses in the world.

10. The Iceman
An ice man was discovered in the Alps in 1991 and it was estimated to be over 5,000 years old. But, after his discovery, seven of the people who found him died over the course of thirteen years and not by natural causes. For instance, one person died in a car accident, another was killed in an avalanche, another died from accidentally falling off a cliff and another from a blood disorder. The Iceman curse is currently one of the most famous curses of modern times.

9. The Crying Boy Painting
This painting of a young boy was set on the walls of multiple homes throughout Europe. But, many of the homes the painting was placed in became the victims of fires and explosions. Even though the homes would be burned down to the ground, The Crying Boy painting was always found to be completely intact in the aftermath. But, what's really bizarre about this "supposed curse" is the fact that the painter of the painting from Madrid said that he had made the painting of a wondering orphan whose parents have died in a house fire.

Even a priest had warned the painter that the each home the boy was led into was destroyed due to a fire at one time or another, the painter did not believe him and took the boy into his studio to paint him. But sure enough, his studio caught on fire as well,  and burned down. Causing the painter to banish the orphan from his presence.

This is one of the most famous diamonds in the entire world. But, there is a curse associated with it. The diamond was stolen from the head of of an idol in the 1600 and it is said that the priest of the temple of the idol was cursed in the stone. Sure enough, each and every owner of the diamond met a horrible demise including the Princess of France who was murdered by a mob in Paris. Even the jewelers who kept the diamond in their shop died mysterious deaths as well. The diamond is currently on display in the United States.

Most of the actors who have portrayed superman in either films or television shows have died of ways other than natural causes, ranging from suicide to complications from being paralyzed.

5. The Bambino curse
The Bambino curse is one of the most famous sports curse in the world. The Boston Red Sox team had a string of bad luck after Babe Ruth was traded to the New York Yankees in the 1920s, but up until then, the Yankees were the ones with the bad luck. Following Ruth's trade, the Yankees won World Series after World Series while the Red Sox lost again and again. But, that changed in 2004 when the Red Sox finally won a World Series, during a total lunar eclipse. What was even more bizarre about this curse is that they won against the Yankees.

The 27 club refers to the rockers and musicians who all died at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances. Musicians included here are Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison, all of who were very famous rock stars at their time. What is even more bizarre about this curse is that all of them became famous at the age of 25, and then died two years later.

There is really no cursed phone number in the world unless you are thinking about count spam or trash messages. But the notable exception here is the phone number 0888-888-888. This curses phone number has been the number of many people throughout the 2000's up until now. But every single person who had the number has died. Some owners died of cancer while others were shot to death or died in a gun shot accident. So, who knows what's going to happen to the current person who has this phone number.

2. Blarney Stone
The Blarney Stone in Ireland is notable throughout the world not because it is a curse, but on the contrary because it is a piece of good luck. Kissing the stone means that good luck will come to your life. But, it does not apply if any part of the stone is removed or stolen. In fact, if that becomes the case, bad luck with ensure. People who have stolen a small piece of the stone have reported suffering from depression and bad financial conditions among other things. So bad was the curse that multiple people who stole a piece of the stone sent it back to Ireland.

1. Tecumseh's curse
This curse was bestowed upon every american president in the White House. Elected every 20 years from William Henry Harrison up until John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The curse originated when William Henry Harrison, governor of Indiana Territory in 1811 broke a treaty with chief Tecumseh. This led to a war between the US and the Shawnee in which many of Tecumseh's men were killed and Harrison's reputation continued to grow. Finally, Tecumseh cursed Harrison to death when he was elected to the White House, in addition to every president elected after Harrison every 20 years.

Sure enough, every president elected each twenty years died while in office. Harrison in 1840, Lincoln in 1860, Garfield in 1880, McKinley in 1900, Harding in 1920, Roosevelt in 1940, and JFK in 1960. President Reagan who was elected in 1980 was the victim of an assassination attempt, but survived. Supposedly breaking the curse as George W Bush, who was elected in 2000 and survived as well.

10. The Grunch

This one comes from Louisiana. In the early days of New Orelans, there was a road called Grunch Road that went deep into the swampy woods before coming to a dead end - thats where the Grunch people lived - a strange hybrid of albinos and dwarfs - forced away from society and forced to live in their own community. As the years went by, people started to doubt the stories authenticity - but it sparked up again when people started disappearing down Grunch Road. Nearby farmers reported their animals missing or finding them dead and drained of their blood. Many locals now refused to head down Grunch road for fear of meeting the same fate.

9. Stull Cemetery

To those that know the stories, Stull Cemetery in Kansas is better known as the doorway to hell. Legend says that the devil himself chose the cemetery as his entrance from the underworld to our own. Its said that a tree once stood in the cemetery and an old tombstone inscribed with the word -Witch- … the tree was used to hang condemned witches who were put to death by the locals. The tombstone apparently marks the burial spot of Satans own child - a creature born deformed and covered in wolf hair. In modern times, the legend has continued with reports of the ground catching fire randomly. Pope John Paul the 2nd was said to divert his private plane around the cemetery because it was so tainted by evil. 8. Knock Knock Road

This is for all of you guys that get creeped out by Little Girl ghosts. The worst kind. Strasburg Road near Detroit has a disturbing tale of murder attached to it. Legend says a little girl was killed on the road in the 1940s. Ever since then, people have reported the same story. They stop at a traffic light and see, on the side of the road, a young girl standing - just standing and staring right at you. Whether they freeze or try to speak to her, she slowly walks forward to the car and stares at you with deep set, hollow eyes. She scans your face to try and find her killer and get her revenge, you better hope you don't look like them.

7. Char-Man

The story goes that in 1948, a wildfire swept across Ojaji California. The flames consumed a cabin where a man lived with his son. He was burned alive but his son survived - just barely though. When the authorities arrived, they found a shocking scene - the father had been flayed - his skin had been removed from his body and peeled off, his body hanging from a nearby tree. The police searched for the purportator - they heard a wheezing from a nearby bush and then suddenly, the son bolted out. The overpowering spell stunned the officers and in that moment, the boy ran into the trees and escaped into the hills. In the years since, many locals say they have seen the Char-Man in the woods, horribly disfigured by his burns and tormented by his past. Hes said to creep up on the tents of innocent campers, waiting for them to fall asleep.

6. Hells Gate Bridge

This one comes from Oxford Alabama. The story goes that in the 1950s, a young couple crashed their car off the side of the bridge and drowned. Now, some locals believe you cross the bridge at your own peril. One story is that if you drive your car out to the middle of the bridge and turn off all the lights, the couple will appear in your car, sitting behind you. When you turn around theyll be gone, leaving a wet seat behind. The other story is that if you drive over the bridge and look over your shoulder halfway through, the scenery behind you turns into a portal to hell - spouting fire and flames. Whether or not you believe this - its enough for some people to look for a different way to cross the river.

5. 100 Steps Cemetery

This is located in the town of Brazil in Indiana. Interesting name for a town - and the cemetery is even more interesting. Its been used for at least 150 years and in that time its gained quite a sinister reputation for a ghostly undertaker. The story goes that as you walk up the many steps to the top of the cemetery you must count each step. When you reach the top, you must turn towards the open field and the ghost of the cemeteries first undertaker will appear. Without saying anything, he will then reveal your own death to you in a vision. Straight away, you must proceed down the steps and count each one again. If the number is the different to the one counted on the way up - the vision was true. An added bous is that if anyone tries to cheat and climb up or down without using the steps, a ghostly hand will push them to the ground leaving a red imprint on their back for days as a mark of the devil. Definitely not a place to just got for a Sunday walk then.

4. The Goat Man of Pope Lick

This is an old Kentucky urban legend about a hideous being who roams the woods across the state. Those who have seen him describe the goat man as having dark fur, pale skin, goat legs and twisted horns. Some say he was an escaped circus freak, others say he was a farmer who tortured goats for Satan - Satan repaid him by turning him into a tortured goat himself. The Goat Man is said to hide under the rusty bridge that crosses Pope Lick Creek in Louisville. Legend says he lures people onto the train tracks and then takes pleasure in them being hit by oncoming trains. Please don't go looking for this one though guys, in 2016, a woman actually fell to her death from the bridge while looking for the Goat Man.

3. Slaughterhosue Canyon

With a name like that - you know its not gonna be a pretty story. During the 1800s Gold Rush, a family moved lived in the canyon in a wooden shack. Every day was the same, the husband would set off into the mountains to search for gold and food for his family. Then, one day he didnt come back - presumably injured or killed by animals, the mountain or other humans. His wife waited for her husband for weeks until they began to starve. Driven mad with the hunger and her childrens cries, she put on her wedding dress, picked up a knife and murdered her children, throwing them in the river and then weeping until starvation killed her too. Legend says that that if you visit the canyon today, you can still hear the Mothers painful cries.

2. The Blank Angel

This statue looks creepy as it is - an old, worn, corroded angel staring down over Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Her sinister appearance has helped spawn a number of different legends around her. One of them says that a pregnant woman should never walk under her lest they want to lose their unborn child. Another says that if you kiss or perhaps even touch the statue, youll be dead within 6 months. This is the kind of story that scares everyone off - whether or not you believe in curses - its just not worth even thinking about!

Many New Yorkers know the story of cropsey, the boogeyman of Staten Island. Legend says he was an escaped patient from a mental asylum who went on a murderous rampage. He had a hook for a hand which he would use to drag children back to the abandoned ruins of Seaview Hospital. Pretty creepy - but heres where it gets really scary. Many parents would tell this to their kids to scare them into being cautious about strangers even if they didnt really believe it. But then, in the 1970s, a real killer called Andre Rand really did start hunting children in a similar way. Was he using the Cropsey legend as cover? Either way, people take the legend a lot more seriously now. Wow America, you kinda creepy, you really are kinda creepy.

We're gonna be looking at some creepy tales again and this time its from my homeland of Britain. Its a place with a lot of history dating back thousands of years - so, it makes sense that there would be a lot of scary stories attached to certain places. Which one of these sends a shiver down your spine? Lets find out - This is the Top 10 Scary British Urban Legends.

10. Corpse Train

According to London folkshore, in the early 1900s, there was a train that ran under the city - and it was only for dead people. Back then, Londons hospitals and morgues were struggling to deal with the amount of people dying from poverty and disease. They decided to transport the bodies out of the city but knew they couldnt do it overground without disturbing a lot of people. So, they used an existing train line to load the bodies on to. The train ran on the other side of a wall from the normal service - where unsuspecting Londoners were getting on and off the trains, unaware of the nearby bodies.

9. The Suicide Pool

This one comes from Epping Forest near Essex. The story goes that years ago, a young couple in love were followed to a pond in the forest by the girls father. When the couple embraced, the father lept from the trees to confront the boy. The fight got out of hand and the father ended up killing the boy in a rage at the edge of the pool. The waters turned black, wildlife that was touching the water died. In the years that followed, bodies started to appear there. First it was an old woman, then a young one with her young child dead beside her. They say the pool drew them in to their death and that the pool is still out there in the forest somewhere, waiting for its next victim.

8. Annie

This one comes from Edinburgh, Scotland. In the Old Town lies a street known as Mary Kings Close. Its steeped in muths and legends of hauntings and murders. In 1990, a psychic called Aiko Gibo visited and felt a small hand touch hers. She said she then made contact with the spirit of a child called annie who had died in a plague hundreds of years ago and had lost her doll. The psychic then went to a nearby shop and brought back a barbie doll. Since then, visitors leave dolls for Annie and a mountain of them has built up in the dark.

7. The Faceless Woman

This one comes from the borough of Barkin in London. There you can find Becontree Station - home to the faceless woman. The most famous sighting of her happened in 1992. A station supervisor reported that one night, he heard the handle of his office door rattle outside on the platform stood a woman. She had blonde hair, wore a pale dress and stared into the distance. The supervisor approached her but as he reached out, she turned to him only to reveal she had no face - just darkness where there should be one. Local ghost hunters claim she is the ghost of a train crash that happened there in 1958 which killed 10 people.

6. The Beast

Englands Hackney Marshes is known for its sprawling woodland, and boggy reed marshes often covered in swirling fog - the perfect setting for this urban legend. The story goes that in 1980, two bear carcesses were found in the river there - they had been decapitated. People started speculating about who or what could cut a bears head clean off its shoulders. Then, a year later, 4 boys were taking a walk along the march one winter morning when they saw it through the trees. They described it as a giant, great, growling, hairy thing. As soon as it saw them, it reared up on it back legs and let out a deafening roar. The boys ran - but the story remains, always in the back of peoples minds as they trudge through the marsh.

5. The Crying Girl

On November 18th 1987, a match was dropped on an escalator at Londons King Cross station. A fire quickly spread into the ticket office which resulted in the deaths of 31 people. In the years since then, passengers have reported seeing a girl who died around the station. She has long brown hair, wears jeans a tshirt and is always crying. Some people have reported hearing her sobs while smelling smoke coming out from the escalators.

4. Sawney Bean

This is the gruesome tale of Alexander -Sawney- Bean … a man who was said to be the head of a Scottish clan of cannibals in medieval times. According to legend, the group was made up of his wife, their 14 children and 32 grandchildren. They lived in a cave by the water and would ambush people on the road at night. They would bring their bodies back to the cave to dismember and eat them. Any leftovers were picked in a jar for later. When King James VI of Scotland eventually heard of the murders, he led a manhunt to capture. The clan were then executed. Some say you can still find the cave along the Bennane Head area of Scotland.

3. Cane Hill

Some people say this is one of the most haunted places in England. It was a mental asylum for over 100 years from 1882 to 1991. It built up a reputation for abandoning some of its patients, hiding them away from the public eye and never truly helping them. Some people say the patients who died left their energy behind because of their tortured lives. The building was gutted by a mysterious fire in 2010. Urban explorers who visit it today often report seeing shadows flicker by the windows. Perhaps the scariest stories are of faces appearing by the burnt out windows.

2. The House of The Screaming Skull

This one comes from Bettiscombe Manor in Dorset, England. The legend goes that in the 1830, a man lived there called John Frederick Pinney. He had a slave he had brought back from the carribean island if Nevis. The man became ill and on his deathbed, he swore he would never rest unless his body was returned home to Nevis. Pinney refused to pay for that expense and when he died, he had the man buried in the local graveyard. After, ill fortune began to plague the village for months. Screams and cries were heard from the cemetery. At the manor house, windows rattled and doors slammed. The body was dug up and brought to the manor house where today, only the skull remains where its said to haunt the manor but the village remains safe.

Dartmoor is a vast, rocky, windy and mysterious part of England. Its popular among tourists but everyone who goes is aware of the legend of the hellhounds. Its said that a pack of these ghost dogs wanders the moors at night, preying on sheep but not afraid of humans. Theyve been described as cat like but with the frame of a bear - and fast. There have been pictures and film taken over the years that claim to show glimpses of the hellhounds. Many of the locals don't need that though - theyve had the stories handed down from generation to generation - some of say theyve seen the hounds with their own two eyes.

10. The Lotus Pond

This story goes that there once was a young couple who were in love. They planned to run away together and get married. They arranged to meet at midnight beside a lotus pond. The girl arrived and waited for him but he never came. As she headed home, she spotted her boyfriend with another girl - this devastated her and made her cry and cry. She went back to the lotus pond and threw herself in the water where she drowned. A while after, another couple agreed to meet at the lotus pond. This time the boy was there first - he waited for his girlfriend by the waters edge. Suddenly, he hard a womans voice behind him say -I asked you to meet me at midnight, didnt I?- … the boy answered -no- … all of a sudden, two pale hands burst out of the water and dragged him into the pond where he drowned. Ever since then, people have kept an eye out when they go to a Lotus Pond at midnight - if you hear a girl, don't answer her or even look at her, or you too may be dragged to a watery grave.

9. The Hello Kitty Murder

In May 1999, a 13 year old girl in Hong Kong told the police that a woman that her boyfriend helped murder was haunting her. She told the police the victim was a 23 year old woman who was being tortured endlessly while bound with electrical wire. The police followed some leads to a house where they found some shocking evidence - a large Hello Kitty Doll stuffed with a womans head. The victim was identified as 23 year old nightclub hostess Fan Man-yee who was abducted the year before for failing to repay a debt. When the story hit the press, it terrified Hong Kong residents who called it the Hello Kitty Murder. Months later, CCTV images began circulating from roads near the house showing a dark female figure lurking in the shadows. Some believe her restless spirit still haunts the area.

8. The Mog Wai

This one one roughly translates to English as -Monster- … the monsters mating season is said to be triggered by rain - one of them is known was the Yaoguai. They are demons that eat peoples souls to gain immortality. They are shapeshifters that are said to take on different forms to trick their victims. One story told of a man who brought a beautiful girl home. One night, he spied on her through the bedroom window. Instead of seeing the girl, he saw a demon painting features onto the skin of the girl - like someone would improve a dress.

7. Nu Gui

This one comes from Hong Kong where a Nu Gui is a ghost woman. The story goes that they are women who were wronged in life and linger on Earth to exact vengeance on her enemies. Usually they were the spirit of a women that was murdered or abused by their husbands. This has led many people in Hong Kong to believe that the ghost hates men specifically - they will kill men but only scare women.

6. The Jiangshi

Essentially, these are Vampires in some Chinese traditions. The closest translation for their name -hard- or -stiff- … this is because they are almost a cross between a vampire and a zombie. A person dies and just as rigor mortis sets in they wake up with stiff joints and begin wandering - looking for blood to suck to survive. A Jiangshi is said to be created when a person dies to things like suicide, magic or an improper burial.

5. The Shui Gui (Shoey Tzi)

This is otherwise known as the Souls of The Drowned. They are the vengful ghosts of people who have drowned. They always lurk in the same spot as where they died. They wait for an unsuspecting person to swim by or get too close - and they they pounce. They drag their victim down into the water to drown them. Then, that person becomes the new Vengeful Soul, creating a cycle that lasts forever.

4. The Death Worm

Rumored to exist in the Chinas Gobi Desert, the Mongolian Deathworm is well known to a lot of chinese people. Its said to be a hellish creature, red from top to tip, somewhere between 2 and 5ft long. Some say theyve seen them grow to twice as long. Locals fear the worm because it is said to be high toxic - they say it has the ability to spray its venom from a distance which is deadly enough to kill a horse.

3. The Suicide Mall

In the city of Guanzhour lies the Liwan Plaza shopping mall. Locals always said the chinese character for the mall looks a lot like the one for death. That seems morbidly appropriate in a way as its been the site of more than 12 suicides over the years - some witnesses swear that a supernatural force seemed to push the victims over the railings. The Malls curse was so begin many years ago when developers overlooked where they were building it - right on top of an ancient Chinese burial ground. They didnt notice until construction unearthed 8 empty coffins which locals blame for the strange noises and deaths that plgaued the area. Taoist priests were brought in and they identified the coffins as being part of a ritual to actually keep AWAY evil spirits - if they werent disturbed for a thousand years. That was the mistake then.

2. Da Ji

Da Ji was the life of King Zhou - the last ruler of the Shang Dysnasty. She was said to be an evil woman - her and her husband gained sexual gratification by seeing people being tortured - she even invented her own torture device - the paolao. It was a bronze cylinder which she would strap her victims in. The coils were then heated up - resulting in a painful death as the victims were slowly cooked alive.

1. The Last Bus


In 1995, a young man boarded the last bus to Fragrant Hills in Bejing. Shortly into the journey, two men tried to wave the bus down. The driver was reluctant but the conductor reminded him that this was the last bus of the night. The two men got on board and passengers were surprised to see they were wearing traditional Chinese robes - their faces white as snow and expressionless. Everyone eventually got off except for the 2 robed men, the young man and an old woman. She accused the young man of stealing her waller - the young man angrily defended himself - she insisted they get off there and go to a police station to resolve the matter. When they got off, she told him that she had made the argument up to get him off the bus with her because she had noticed the two robed men had no legs which meant they must have been ghosts.

Scary Jack the Ripper Urban Legends

For those of you who don’t know, Jack the Ripper was a serial killer who terrorized the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. He brutally murdered and mutilated at least five prostitutes and his identity was never discovered. He had a very particular way of murdering his victims and he was never caught. So of course, there are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding Jack the ripper and his murderous rampage through London. So, here are the top 10 scary Jack The Ripper Urban Legends.

10. Mary Ann Nichols

She was one of the Whitechapel murder victims who was viciously murdered by the infamous Jack the Ripper. Her throat was slashed twice from left to right and her abdomen was mutilated with one deep jagged wound. She also had many incisions across her abdomen and a ton of other deep stab wounds. Since her brutal murder, it has been said that her spirit has been haunting the Whitechapel area and people have been hearing strange ghostly noises of Jack killing Mary Ann Nichols. People have also said that they can see her spirit glowing at the site of her murder and horses and dogs will refuse to go near that location.

9. Lewis Carroll was actually the murderer

This is the author of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland, which to me sounds like a very unlikely suspect. However, there are a bunch of urban legends that point to him. Apparently, people believe that he killed a bunch of women and left clues about the murders in his children’s stories. There are a bunch of ripperologists who have studied his writings and they were able to unscramble a bunch of passages from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and from a bunch of his other works that make you wonder, did he kill all of these women?

8. The last four murders

Mary Jane Kelly was believed to be the final victim of Jack The Ripper but according to an urban legend, the first four murders were just an elaborate attempt to cover up the real reason why Mary Jane Kelly was murdered. It is believed that her husband was the infamous serial killer and his motive for killing his wife was because he was so angry that his wife turned to prostitution shortly after they got married. So he killed four other prostitutes to make it look like a pattern and then he killed his wife so that the police wouldn’t suspect him of committing the crime.

7. The murders were part of a black magic ritual

According to an urban legend, it is believed that Jack the ripper was apart of a cult who indulged in a very violent form of Satanic worship. Apparently, his true motive was to kill four prostitutes in order to become the cult leader. In this black magic ritual, certain organs had to be removed from the murdered prostitutes and they had to be killed at pre-arranged sites that resemble a satanic symbol. The organs that were commonly removed were the heart, kidneys, genitalia and the womb which of course, were also commonly removed during black magic rituals during this time period.

6. The American Jack the Ripper

There is a lot of speculation that Americans Urban Legends were also the victim of Jack the Ripper. So, three years before the first Jack the Ripper murder happened in England, a serial killer dubbed the servant girl annihilator brutally murdered 8 people in Austin, Texas. Similar to Jack the Ripper, the servant girl annihilator has never been identified and there are so many theories about his identity. All of the women were killed indoors while asleep in their beds and some of them were dragged outside and mutilated in the same way as jack the ripper victims. Because of all this evidence, there is an urban legend that suggests that Jack the ripper was actually the servant girl annihilator and he roamed the streets of Texas, brutally murdering eight people before heading off to England to do the same.

5. Elizabeth Stride

She is another victim of Jack the Ripper but she wasn’t as brutally murdered as the others. The only body mutilation that she had was a slashed throat, so it is believed that Jack the Ripper was most likely interrupted during his murder and he was unable to chop up her body like his other victims. The local urban legend surrounding her murder says that if you go to Dutfields Yard on Berner Street, you can supposedly hear ghostly and eerie screams of a woman struggling and crying for help.

4. Mitre Square

This cobblestoned area is the site where one of London’s most infamous crimes occurred. At the south-west corner of Mitre Square, the mutilated body of Catherine Eddowes was discovered at this location at 1:45am on September 30th, 1888. Catherine Eddowes was Jack the Rippers fourth victim. She was found lying on her back in a pool of blood with her clothes over her waist. Her throat was slashed, her intestines were taken out and placed over her right shoulder and she had a lot of other brutal cuts all over her body. Well the local legend states that on the anniversary of her death, people have reported seeing her ghost figure lying where her corpse was discovered.

3. The second victim

Annie Chapman was viciously murdered by Jack the Ripper on September 8, 1888. Her throat had been slashed, she was disembowelled with her intestines thrown out of her abdomen and part of her uterus was missing. So basically, she was chopped up and her body was severely sliced and hacked. Her disfigured body was found in the backyard of the Truman Brewery and when this brewery was still in business after her murder, it was reported that on the anniversary of her murder, you can see her ghost standing in the exact spot where she was viciously sliced up to death.

2. Mary Kelly

It is believed that she is the last and final victim of Jack the Ripper. She was about 25 years old at the time of her vicious murder. Her body was found lying naked on a bed in an apartment. Her whole abdomen and thighs were removed, her chest was cut off and her arms had several jagged wounds. Her face was hacked up so badly that you couldn’t even recognize her and her neck was cut so deep, that you could even see her bones. An urban legend states that after her murder, anyone who lives in that apartment will see a bloody handprint on the wall. Even if you attempt to clean it or paint over it, the bloody handprint will reappear shortly after. Some people even claim that they have seen her ghost wearing all black and she has been haunting the building on the very same night of her murder.

Legend has it that if you stand on the Westminster Bridge on December 31st and look east as midnight approaches, you might see the ghost of Jack the Ripper. And as Big Ben chimes in the new year, you will see a shadowy figure creeping down the wall and into the Thames river. This legend began to circulate because back in 1888 it is believed that Jack the Ripper killed himself by diving into the river at this very spot and now every year since, his spirit is forced to repeat this over and over again as a form of punishment.

Top 10 Scary Japanese Urban Legends
Starting off at number 10 we have Teke-Teke. This is the Urban Legend about a girl who fell under a train and was cut in half. She became a vengeful spirit that moves using her hands and elbows, dragging herself while making the sound -Tek-Tek- … if you hear that noise, youre supposed to run. Those who are caught by the Tek Tek will recieve a fate like her - shes said to slash her victims in half so that they look like her, and possibly become wandering vengeful spirits as she is.

At number 9 now we have the Slit Mouthed Woman. You may recognise this one from a number of Japanese movies and TV shows. The traditional name for this being is Kuchi-sake-onna and dates back over 300 years ago. She is a woman who was brutally mutilated by her husband after he found she was having an affair with another Samurai. This left her in death as a restless spirit. She is said to cover her mouth with a cloth mask, a fan or a scarf. If you approach her, shell ask you if you think shes pretty. If you answer yes, she will remove the mask and when the victim screams they will be slashed from ear to ear until they look like her. Even if you say no, shes said to follow you home and brutally murder you that night.

Next up at number 8 we have Daruma-san. This urban legend is more of an old game passed down through the years. You shower in a bath, turn off the lights and chant -Daruma-san fell down- while you wash your hair … its said that you will see a woman in your mind. She is Daruma-San. Shell be standing up in a bath. Youll see her slip and fall onto an old rusty tap. It goes straight through her eye and kills her. Then, you will feel her ghostly presence behind you. If you turn around - there she is. Black tangled hair, rotting clothes, one eye is bloodshot and the other is just a bloody, hollow eye socket. The game continues even further than that if you dare, but I think thats enough for you to understand this creepy urban legend.

At number 7 now we have the Girl From The Gap. This Japanese story comes from peoples natural fear of what lies lurking in the cracks of a home. Do you ever see something move past the hinge of a door? Is that someone looking out from inside your wardrobe? Have you ever pictured a hand reaching out from between your bed and the floor? Well it could be the girl from the gap - a spirit that lives both physically and metaphorically -between worlds-. Its said that if you ever see her, she will ask if you want to play hide and seek. At that point the game is on. When you her between a gap again, shell drag you to an other worldly hell.

At number 6 now we have The Red Room. This is a very modern Japanese urban legend about a pop up ad thats red with black test. In a childs voice, it simply repeats the phrase -Do you like?-. A boy who got the popup tried to close it but it kept reappearing. Then, it changed to -Do you like red?- … he keeps trying to close it but it grows large and changes again to say -Do you like the red room?- … then, the site changes. All red and black. It has a list of names on it - his friends is at the bottom. And hand reaches out towards the boys neck from a video. tHE Ending gets even more twisted but guess what, its based on a real website. Its still out there. If you can find it, youll know the gruesome legend of the red room and if the horrible ending comes true for you.

Moving on to number 5 we have The Human Pillars. This legend dates back to ancient times in Japan where its known as Hito-bashira. Back then, there was a belief that a human sacrifice sealed inside a structure would make a foundation more stable. This means that many old Japanese buildings are said to contain the spirits of the people who were sacrificed during their construction. One famous example is Matsue Castle where a woman was sealed inside the foundations during its construction. Now her spirit is said to haunt the castle and whenever a woman dances there, the castle shakes violently. Many building owners in Japan are open about their building being a Human Pillar.

Next up at number 4 we have The Snake Woman. This one comes from the old Japanese folklore pf Nure-onna which translates to wet woman. She is often described as having the head of a woman and the body of a snake - with long claws, snake eyes and jet black hair.  She carries with her a childlike bundle to lure in her victims. If a person tries to pick up the baby, they find its not a child at all. The bundle then becomes very heavy and stops the victim from fleeing. The snake woman then uses her long tongue to suck all of the blood from the victims body until they die.

At number 3 now we have Onibaba. She is a demon women that often appears in Japanese folk folklore. She will often appear as an old woman asking for help but if you get to close, she will slice you open with a knife and eat you. She is said to be the tormented spirit of a woman who accidently killed her pregnant daughter and unborn grandchild in an effort to find a cure for her friends child being sick. She was told to bring them the liver of an unborn child but when she finally killed her victims, she found they were her own family.

At number 2 now we have The Dream School. This one is extra creepy because apparently if you don't forget it within a week - it will happen to you. Lets see if this is true. One night, a boy had a dream about a school. The hallways looped forever, bringing him back to the start. Staircases led back to the first floor. As he got scared, he heard footsteps behind him. He ran until he found an emergency exit with a glass box and a key next to it. The glass had been smashed and there was a note saying it could be found in room 108. When he found that room, it was empty - no students - but there were backpacks hanging off every chair. There was a pounding on the door. He opened it, terrified, to find the hallways covered with dead children. Its said that he never woke up from his dream and if you don't forget the story in one week, youll meet the same fate. Don't worry though guys

And finally at number 1 we have Onryo. This is a traditional Japanese belief about a vengeful spirt that can and will physically hurt the living. Its a very scary concept if youre only familiar with the western idea of ghosts which don't really take solid forms and so cant hurt humans with physical contact. Thats not true for an Onryo. They are vengeful and full of hate, stopping at nothing to enact the suffering they received when they were alive. 10. Virginial Ghost

This is the term used to describe those Grudge type apparitions that youve probably seen in horror movies with the hair over their faces, usually dressed in white. One day, a man who lived on the top floor of an apartment building woke up to the sound of a knock at the door. He lived alone and rarely got visitors. He walked to the door and asked whos there. After a few seconds, a voice said -count to 100 and dont make a sound or youll die- … he opened the door - and there was nobody there. He was still scared though so he closed his eyes and started to count to 100 in his head. When he got to 49 - he opened his eyes out of curiosity and there she was, right infront of his face.

9. Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgery is a big market in Korea and as such, horror stories have sprouted up around it. This story starts with a man sitting on an empty subway car when a tall, thin woman sits down in front of him. Her long, dark hair covers most of her face but he can see shes wearing a surgical mask. As the doors close, he catches her eye. He smiles. She asks him -Am I pretty?- ‘yes’ he replies … then she takes the mask off. Theres a huge wound from ear to ear, exposing her bleeding gums, teeth and muscles. -Am I pretty now?- she screams at him. She takes out a scalpel and moves towards him, the doors open and he runs for his life.

8. The Organ Thief

This is quite a modern South Korean urban legend coming from the city of Gwangju. Screenshots of a text conversation between 2 friends appeared on Facebook there and went viral. One of the friends was warning the other to not take taxis at night. They said that one of their friends got in a taxi while drunk. The taxi driver then put a needle in their neck. They lost consciousness and were defenceless. When they came round, they were bleeding from their stomach and lying in a field on the outskirts of the city. He was rushed to hospital where doctors found he was missing a kidney. The fear of these organ stealing taxi drivers became so much that officials said it was affecting the taxi business in the city.

7. Dalgyal Gwishin

This is whats known as a traditional type of Korean ghost, dating back in legend hundreds of years. Its notable because the ghost is said to appear with no facial features - no eyes, no nose or mouth - some of them even lack arms and legs. Theyre often referred to as perhaps the most terrifying spirits in Korean folklore as even just looking at one can cause instant death.

6. The Back

The story goes that a married couple with a young son were always fighting. After years of this, it got so bad that in a sheer rage the father murdered the mother. He covered up the crime and nobody else suspected a thing. The only strange thing was - the boy never seemed to complain about the absence of his Mother - so he asked him -Son, why arent you calling out for Mommy? Most little boys would want their mommy to be with them. Tell me whats bother young- … the little boy looked up and slowly replied -Im fine, I was just wondering why youre always carrying Mommy on your back- … this is one of many similar stories found across the land.

5. Sesame Seeds

This a strange Urban Legend that seems to scare people about coming into contact with sesame seeds. A girl had heard that taking a bath with sesame seeds in the water would be good for her. So thats what she did. She sat in the bath for hours and hours. After a while, the girls mother became concerned and went to check on her. When she opened the door, she found the girl was covered in the seeds which had sunk deep into her skin. The daughter was crying and trying to remove them with a toothpick … theres one for any of you guys who hate the thought of holes in your skin.

4. The Bathroom Girl

This one is like moaning myrtle from Harry Potter but about 100 times more creepy. There are stories that in some of the old Korean schools with their dimly lit bathrooms live the ghosts of girls who killed themselves. Its said that she now haunts the stall where the event took place. How do you know which stall it was? Well the toilets have been said to flush themselves, the door slams with nobody around and sometimes you can hear her cry or even catch a glimpse in the mirror. The most gruesome by far though is that sometimes, she is said to emerge from the stall and ask you if you will use red or blue toilet paper. If you choose red, the ghost will cut you open. If you choose blue, the ghost will suffocate you.

3. Ghost Money

In this urban legend, a member of the South Korean mint went away on a business trip. During the trip, his daughter was abducted, dismembered and murdered. After an investigation, nobody was tried for the crime. It was believed that this lack of justice would turn the girls ghost into an angry spirit. Because of this, the mint began to places images of her body parts and parts of name on South Korea currency in he hopes that this would appease her. The mint has denied all knowledge of this.

2. The Loan Shark

A loan shark is someone who lends people money, often illegally, at extremely high interest rates. Sometimes, if they don't get their money back, they take matters into their own hands. Theres an urban legend from a small village in South Korea. Farmers there had to make a mass crave to bury cattle who had died from disease. Not long after, they heard a human voice calling out from beneath the soil. By the time they had dug through the dirt - the person buried among the cattle had already died. An investigation found they owed a lot of money to a loan shark. This has apparently happened dozens of times across the country.

1. Oysters

This is a really weird urband legend coming from the South Korean coast. Apparently one day a guy was walking along the beach when he slipped and fell on a sharp rock that cut his knee open. He washed it quickly and put a bandage over it. When he got home, it started to itch but he didnt want to remove the bandage incase it made things worse. He took it off a few days later and to his horror, tiny oysters covered the wound. It turns out there had been Oyster eggs on the rock he had fallen on which had gotten into his wound. They were protected by the bandage and fed on his blood until they had rooted themselves in his leg.

Starting off at number 10 we have Ghost Tape Number 10. During the Vietnam War, its claimed that the US came up with a creepy new tactic in their fight against the Vietcong. With the help of the South Vietnamese, the US army created scary messages that sounded like voices of the dead. Along with shrieks, screams, and moans, a dead Viet Cong soldier pleads with his comrades, saying things like -My friends, I have come back to let you know that I am dead … I am dead!- and -Don't end up like me. Go home friends, before its too late!- … American helicopters blasted the Ghost Tapes over the jungle to make it sound like the voices were coming from everywhere. This was intended to do more than just scare them - the US army was playing on the strongly held Vietnamese belief that the spirits of the dead are doomed to walk the earth in their own personal hell if their bodies are not found and properly buried. It was hoped that this fear could be instilled in the Viet Cong and convince them to give up the fight or meet the same fate as the ghostly voices.

Next up at number 9, we have The Pregnant Ghost. In December 2001, a house caught fire in Saigon which took the life of 7 family members. The fire started in the early morning and quickly engulfed the first floor which was also a showroom for the family's motorbike shop. People living nearby were woken up by the smell of burnt plastic tires. The family tried to escape but found the only way was through the balcony. One by one people jumped but then a pregnant woman stepped forward onto the balcony. She was the daughter of the owners. The upper floor wasn't that high so everybody urged her to just jump - but she was too scared. She stepped back from the balcony, towards flames, and was never seen again. By the time the fire was put out the next days, the pregnant woman could not be found. In the years since then, locals swear that on certain nights - you can see the ghost of the pregnant woman standing on the balcony. Even though she is already dead, they say you can see the fear in her eyes as she looks down at the ground, clutches her baby and steps back into the flames that went out years ago.

Moving on to number 8 we have Apartment 727. This building used to be a symbol of luxury in Saigon - the tallest millionaire residence. Its divided into 6 blocks with 530 rooms but despite the grand plans of the past, it now lies almost completely abandoned. The simple reason is - people believe its haunted. In the 1960s, this was where a lot of US officers lived. Now, locals claim they see military ghost parades and the shadow of a blonde American soldier holding hands with a Vietnamese girl. They believe this is down to the spirit of the 4 virgins in the building. The legend goes that during the construction of the hotel, everything was going smoothly until the last floor of the building where many deaths and accidents occurred. The owners stopped construction for 3 days to set up an altar. People say they were advised by a Chinese exorcist to bring in the bodies of 4 virgin women. They then buried the bodies in the 4 corners of the building in order to exorcise whatever demon or curse was stopping construction. It seemed to work and the building was completed - but locals say that this act is the reason the building is so haunted today - and no soul wants to live there anymore.

Moving on to number 7 we have the Batutut. Every country seems to have some sort of Bigfoot story - well this is Vietnam. This apelike creature is said to wander the forested hills of Vietnam. Many locals have reported seeing it for a number of years. It gained wider attention when US servicemen returned from the Vietnam War with the same stories of the creature. The first documented Batutut sighting was in 1947 by a Dr. John MacKinnon in the Vu Quang Nature Reserve. Dr. MacKinnon was searching the area for undiscovered wildlife and came across tracks which he identified as hominid - a human-like creature. He said it stood at around 6ft in height. The creature is said to have hair covering its entire body except for its hands, feet, and face. The hair color can vary from grey to brown to black. They've been observed walking on two legs and also both alone and in small social groups. Those who claim to be experts say they forage for fruit and leaves but also hunt small prey. However, there is no evidence beyond eyewitness accounts and so for now, the Batutut remains an intriguing legend.

Moving on to number 6 we have The Meat Eater. The story goes like this. In a small town in Vietnam, the houses were very packed together. This was many years ago when people didn't have a fridge to keep their meat fresh and so the only way was to put salt on the meat and store it in their backyard kitchen. They didn't have any special container and just left it on a shelf. One night, a housewife in a family store their meat on the shelf. The next morning, a piece of it was missing. Furious, she went round and asked the family where it was - nobody knew. That night, she put the meat on a different shelf to make sure no one would take it away. The next morning, she went to the backyard and again, she found the meat missing.

She complained to her husband and that night, the couple stayed up to try and catch the culprit. When night came, they sat by the window overlooking their backyard. Just after 1 Am, they saw the shadow of a woman jump over their fence. They realized it was the old woman from next door. When they went out to catch her - they were shocked to see she already had the meat in her hands and was biting into it raw with a crazed look in her eyes. She looked possessed and was tearing the meat apart with sharp teeth and fangs. After finishing up the meat, she lept back over the fence. The next day they confronted the old woman's family about what had happened, they refused to believe their grandmother could have done it. The next day, the couple had to leave town for some business - they left their 1-year-old baby at home with a babysitter. They returned at 1 AM just in time to hear a loud scream come from the babies room.

They rushed upstairs to find their worst fears had come true. They had left no meat in the backyard that night and so the possessed old woman had climbed into the room and was biting on the babies arm - her face pale and fangs dripping. They attacked her and she jumped out of the window. The whole village helped to hunt the old woman - they eventually found her on top of a house. They tried but failed to get her down and decided the only way was to burn the building down. The old now transformed into her demonic form. She laughed and laughed until the roof collapsed and she fell into the flames - letting out a blood curling evil scream and then - silence, only the crackling of wood. The next day, all they found in the ashes was a very small skull. The old woman's family had already disappeared - leaving the village with more questions than answers - and a terrifying story to pass down the generations.

Moving on to number 5 now we have Mirrors. It is a common belief in some parts of Vietnam that Mirrors have a supernatural quality to them which can be used as a help or a curse. Its believed that mirrors are a portal to the spirit world. This is used as a defense against evil spirits. It's not uncommon to see mirrors hung on peoples doors. The idea for this is that an evil spirit will approach the door and be scared away by the mirror, not wanting to slip through the portal as it passes through the door. However, mirrors aren't always tools for good. Some Vietnamese believe that if you stare into a mirror for too long, a reflection can take your place and you will be the one who ends up in the mirror. You won't realize it until you go to step away and blink out of existence, forced to wait in the mirror until the real you return. Youll be forced to copy their movements exactly - and nobody will be able to see you screaming out for help through your eyes.

Next up at number 4, we have Thuan Kieu Plaza. In the heart of Saigon's busy Chinatown district is a series of three towers - each one stands 33 floors tall. Buildings A and B are completely deserted while building C has just a few people living there. During its construction in the late 80s, some of the workers died due to poor safety standards. No compensation was offered to the family and so one of them put an ancient Chinese curse on the site called -Lo Ban- …. The accidents and problems only got worse - people blamed it on the curse. Then, the ghost stories came. One involved a taxi driver who got a call from one of the abandoned builds. He went anyway but when he arrived at the place, it was of course empty. He called the girl on the other end of the phone but all he could hear was heavy breathing and muffled screams. He drove away, terrified. When he asked locals about it - they said it was most likely the ghost of a girl who was murdered by her boyfriend on the site in 2005. There are many stories like this - only adding to how deserted and creepy this plaza really is.

Moving on to number 3 now we have the Lonely Ghosts. There is a belief among some people in Vietnam that if people die alone then they will stay near where they died as ghosts because nobody was there to guide their spirits to the afterlife. They could have died alone, maybe their family didn't even know of their death or a person may have died with no family at all. If someone had a violent death, as spirits they'll be mischievous - not always evil but often violent. September is the -Ghost month- of Vietnam and during that time you can see people burning paper money in rusty buckets in the hopes of appeasing the lonely ghost.

Next up at number 2, we have Tao Dan Park. This 10-hectare park in Saigon is beautiful by day, attracting many tourists who wander around its green gardens and shady tall trees. If you dig a bit deeper - you'll find that some consider this to be the most haunted park in all of Vietnam. The story goes that over 10 years ago, a man and his girlfriend were having a picnic in the park when they were brutally attacked. The man was killed but the woman managed to survive and escape. Officials say there is only one recorded case of a murder in the Park. It was of a young man called Tuan in 1989. He was trying to sell his motorbike and asked his friend Hung to help. Instead, Hung and another accomplice killed Tuan and took the bike for themselves. Locals say that whichever one is true - the cold-blooded murder that was committed has stained the park forever - and the spirits of the victims remain.

And finally, at number 1 we have The Singing Girl. For many years, there was only really one official place in Saigon to bury the dead - Binh Hung Hoa Cemetery. Because of this concentration of dead people - many believe its one of the most haunted places in Vietnam. Perhaps one of the most famous stories is that of the singing girl. There was once a 16-year-old girl who lived in the area. She was known for her love of Kai Lung (c?i l??ng) - a well-known singer in Vietnam. The girl fell for a singer from a local theater - however, her Father didn't approve of their love due to the singer's lowly background and forced him to enroll in the army in hopes of separating them. A few months passed by and the girl was heartbroken to learn that her lover had died in the war. She was furious at her father and so hurt by her lover's death that she took her own life by jumping into the pond in the cemetery. Her body wasn't found until 6 days later. Ever since that fateful day - on every night with a full moon - locals swear they see her standing on the edge of the water, mournfully singing her favorite singers songs.

10. The Russian Sleep Experiment

Some of you guys may have heard of this before - it became a very popular creepypasta a few years ago and for good reason. According to legend, Russian scientists in the 1940s took 5 prison inmates and locked them in an airtight chamber with a special gas inside that made them unable to sleep. They wanted to study the effects of sleep deprivation over 30 days. On day 5 - the inmates stopped talking to each other. By day 9, some of them were screaming, begging to get out. One of the others tore apart the books they were given, smeared them with their own feces and then covered the one way mirror with it which the scientists were using to observe them. The screaming stopped. By day 15, they announced over the intercom that they were coming in - a voice replied -We no longer want to be freed- … they opened up the chamber to find one of the inmates had been torn to pieces by the others.

They had also mutilated themselves almost to the point of death. The team tried to surgically reverse the damage on their brain but they resisted and couldnt be sedated - they just laughed and laughed. They demanded to be let back into the chamber which the head scientist agreed to. Appalled at what he was seeing, one of the scientists shot the head scientist and the remaining subjects. Before killing the last one he asked -What ARE you?- … the prisoner responded -Have you forgotten so easily? We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread- … the scientist fired the gun and killed him.

9. The Legend of Brosnya

The Brosnya is said to be an ancient, mythological beast that lives within the waterways of the Andreapol District. Perhaps the closest comparison for a western audience would be the Loch Ness Monster. The Brosnya lurks below the surface there, many have heard of it - but few have seen it. They describe it as a prehistoric creature with a dragons head and long thin tail. There have been accounts of the beast going back well over a thousand years. One notable example involves a Mongol army in the 8th century that fled the area after the Brosnya attacked them - eating their soldiers and horses. Some even say its related to the Loch Ness Monster - wouldnt that be an interesting family reunion.

8. Ivan Vassili

Thats the name of a ship not a person. It was built in St Petersburg in 1897. Everything was fine for about 25 years and then, in 1903, something changed. The crew were in the Indian ocean when they felt a strange presence - almost as if an invisible entity was watching them - there was a chill in the air. One night, they saw an apparition - a human figure that stolled across the deck - its features too blurry to make out - it then disappeared behind a lifeboat. A few nights later, when the ship was docked in China, a crew member screamed out into the night - sending everyone into a crazy panic - they lost their minds and went berserk - beating each other and themselves.

It only ended when one of the crew members threw himself overboard and died. A few days later, it happened again, the crew became possessed with fighting rage and only ended with another crew members death by drowning. The crew abandoned ship at port - the new crew set sail but the same thing happened to them - 4 people died including the captain, all of them threw themselves overboard. Eventually the the crew burned the ship down, cheering at the sight as the left in smaller boats. What do you guys think of that? Can ships be so haunted they drive people to suicide?

7. The Well To Hell

This one comes from Siberia - a part of Russia thats perhaps one of the most inhospitable places on Earth. Youll rarely find people here - which is why a lot of stories have sprouted up around it. According to legend, a scientific team were drilling a hole to study samples in the Siberian permafrost. Suddenly, the drill started malfunctioning and letting off intense heat - then they heard faint noises coming from within. They scrambled to get a microphone and began feeding it down the hole so they could hear better. They realised the noises were actually human voices - coming from deep in the ground - and they were screaming out in pain. The terrified team packed up and left - convinced they had found a well to hell.

6. The Black Volga

This one comes from the height of the cold war during the 1960s and 70s. During that time, many Russians talked of a Black Volga - an expensive car usually driven by those high up in the Soviet Government. They said that this particular car would appear out of nowhere, its side mirrors were actually horns and it would steal children from the side of the road - never to be see again. Whats more, some say the car was driven by the Devil himself. For me though - the scariest part of the story is yet to come. It was said that those who doubted the stories authenticity would be dead within 24 hours. Of course, this only made the story spread even faster - do you dare doubt its authenticity? Actually you probably do.

5. Snake Lubac

Some Russians believe that occasionally, a shooting star falling to Earth may actually be a Snake-Lubac, a demonic figure that resembles a giant snake. Its often called -the fiery serpent- due to its fiery descent to Earth in a huge ball of fire. After it lands and the dust settles, the Snake-Lubac takes on human form. To be more specific, it takes on the form of a lost love that died to whomever it appears in front of. It chooses people who are desperate to see their partner one last time. The Snake Lubac then tricks the person into believing they never died - once the person is under its spell, it slowly convinces them to convince suicide - a fate which many say is unavoidable.

4. Chernobyl Black Bird

Im sure many of you guys have heard about Chernobyl - the nuclear power plant meltdown that happened in 1986, leaving a large part of the Soviet Union uninhabitable because of radiation. According to some of the locals who lived nearby - there were signs of the disaster coming. Some of them experienced nightmares, strange phone calls and encounters with a huge winged monster they called the Blackbird of Chernobyl. Apparently it looked like a twisted hybrid of bird and human with huge wings and big red eyes. Some even say they saw it over the reactors during the meltdown. Is it just some stupid story? Does this creature warn people of impending doom or perhaps even cause it?

3. UVB-76

Also known as -The Buzzer-, this is the nickname given to a shortwave radio station that broadcasts a short, monotonous buzzing noise all day, every day and has been doing t since 1973 - 45 years ago. Nobody knows why or where this creepy station is. Sometimes the buzzer signal is interrupted by a Russian voice that reads out a string of random phrases and numbers. The message usually starts with -UVB76- … when the message stops, the buzzing begins again - sometimes for years. Theories have ranged from military communication to a way to announce a nuclear war has begun.

2. The Collector

In old Russian folk lore, the collector is a strange, dark figure who kidnaps people, kills them and then puts their mummified bodies on display for his own pleasure. If that sounds too disturbing to be true then think again. Russians were shocked in 2011 to learn that there was a real life version of The Collector that had been arrested. He used to dig up corpses and dress their remains in womens clothing to display around his home. In total, he did this with an astounding 29 corpses. If theres anything worse than an urban legend - its a real one coming to life.

Top 10 Scary Mexican Urban Legends

Today we continued our quest to discover scary tales from all over the world. In this Topic well be visiting a land steeped in myths and legends, some of them are modern, some of them are ancient, but all of them are feared by the people who know them. This is the Top 10 Scary Mexican Urban Legends.

10. White Death

The White Death is said to be a vengeful spirit in Mexico who hunts down anyone who knows about her existence. If its true, Im sorry to drag all of you guys in to it. Shes said to be an undead girl with cold black eyes that weep blood. She glides but never walks and stalks her victims like wild animals, chasing them back to their homes. Then, she waits until night and knocks at the door. One knock means she wants your skin, 2 for your hair, 3 for your bones, 4 for your heart, 5 for your teeth, 6 for your eyes and 7 for your soul - which she will swallow hole.

9. La Lechuza

According to legend, she was a witch who used magic to turn herself into a giant white owl. Its said that she sold her soul to the devil to become more powerful. Sometimes she appears as an owl the size of a human being, with the head of an owl and the body of an elderly woman. She is said to wait outside the house of her victims, crying out into the night until they step outside.

8. The Phantom of The Park

In the small city of Jaral Del Progreso lies a park called the Benito Juarez Park. Its built on the remains of an old, forgotten cemetery. The locals say this disturbed the spirits of the dead and unleashed a deadly curse. Every night, the benches were vandalized and nobody knew who caused the damage. The city hited a security guard to patrol the grounds. One night, around midnight, a dense fog emerged and crept out over the park. The guard heard the cries of a woman. Then, he saw her - a shadowy figure lurking near the park benches. It looked like an old woman in a long white dress. When he got closer, he saw she had no legs and was floating above the ground. Then, she attacked him. He managed to escape and told his boss the next morning. A few days later, he died of a mysterious illness. Locals have now accepted the phantom of the park - and they know a mysterious illness will fall upon anyone who sees her at midnight.

7. La Malinche

The story dates back to 1522 when the noble Aztec woman La Malinche had two sons with the Spanish conquistador Cortes. He told her he was going to return to Spain with his sons, she had a dream where one of her Gods appeared and said -If you let him take your children, one of them will return and destroy your people. The night before Cortes  departed, La Malinche escaped with the boys - Cortes’ soldiers chased them to the lake on which Mexico city now lies. Just before capturing them, she stapped the boys in their heart with a dagger and dropped their bodies into the water. She screamed out into the night, saying -Oh my children- … in the centuries since then, many Mexican families have reported seeing her ghost wandering the streets at night, grieving the loss of her children. The families lock up their kids for fear of her doing the same thing to them.

6. La Planchada

In the 1930s, a nurse known as La Planchada worked at Hospital Juarez. Her name roughly translates to The Ironed Lady. She fell for a doctor but he left her for another woman. La Planchada was distraught and fell into a deep depression. She deteriorated and eventually succumbed to an illness which killed her. Legend says that she returned to the land of the living with a hatred for all other nurses. Ever since then, she walks the corridors of hospitals at night - caring for patients while they sleep, but ready to release her anguish if she comes across another nurse.

5. The Red Car

This legend tells of a group of witches who travel the roads looking for men. Theyre also known as the carriage of the witches. The red car travels the roads at night between Mexico City and Cuernavaca. The passengers are 3 witches disguised as beautiful women. When they see a man alone by the side of the road, they pull over and try to get him inside. If the man accepts, he is usually found some time later, lying lifeless by the side of the road - battered, bruised and witch strange arcane symbols all over his body. 4. The Tube House

This is an abandoned mansion in Monterrey Mexico. It was built in the 1970s by a family of 3 who wanted to make a comfortable place to live for their daughter who was in a wheelchair. When the parents brought their daughter to see the home for the first time, the little girl fell off one of the ramps and went straight through a window, falling to her death. The parents were distraught and eventually put the house up fro sale. In the years since then, visitors have sworn they have seen the ghost of the little girl. They see her standing there in the same window she fell to her death from - waving and smiling, forever.

3. El Cucuy

According to legend, El Cucuy is small, hideous, hair creature with deep glowing red eyes. He has ears like a bat and a mount full of teeth as sharp as daggers. El Cucuy comes out at night to steal children away. Some say he can take the form of any dark shadow which he uses to watch children as they sleep. Once the child is asleep, El Cucuy will pounce and take them away to his lair. Children will hide in their wardrobes or under their beds. He is essentially the Mexican version of the boogeyman, or perhaps the very same person.

2. Chupacabra

This is the story of a strange beast that blurs the lines between fact and fiction. In Mexico, some people say there exists -The Alley of the Hands- … in 1780, a priest set up in the town of Alfalfa in Mexico. He hired two boys to help look after the horses. One night, the boys returned to the house to find the priest had been murdered. They ran to get help. The police couldnt figure out who did it and began to suspect it was the two boys. After intense interrogation the boys began to blame each other. They were put on trial and found guilty - they were hung by the neck and then their hands were cut off. The hands were then hung on the wall of the alley outside the priests house as a warning to others. Ever since then, people have been afraid to walk through the Alley of the Hands. Whenever they do, they make the sign of the cross and pray. Locals say that on a cold dark night in November, you can see the skeletal hands floating above you in the alley.

Cressie is said to be a mysterious, eel like creature said to lurk in the waters of Crescent lake in NewFoundland and Labrador. Stories of Cressie date back to Native Canadian legends which refer to it as the Pond Devil or Swimming Demon. Their fears were also held by European settlers who arrived at the lake during the early 20th century. Since then, there have been dozens of sightings of Cressie with one report saying it could be as much as 15ft long.

9. The St Louis Ghost Train

In the town of St Louis in Saskatchewan lies the village of St Louis. There, you can find an old abandoned train track. Many of the locals there have reported seeing strange floating lights moving along the train track during the night. Others have said a ghost train will appear on the track, looking like the ones from the 19th century. 7. Young Teazer

This was an American ship that was destroyed in the war of 1812. It was wrecked in Novia Scotia where some people believe its ghost can still be seen today. People swear they have seen the Teazer Light - a fiery glow of a flaming ship near the site of the explosion. Accounts began in the late 19th century and since then, many people have said the ship appears on the 27th of June - the day it sank. Its now Regis College in Toronto but Christie Mansion used to be the home of William Mellis Christie - a successful businessman. His son Robert inherited the mansion and set up a secret chamber for his mistress. She lived there for many years until Roberts affections for her began to wane. Eventually, she hung herself in Room 29. Ever since then, people have said the room is cursed. Legend says if you enter room 29 by yourself at night, the door will swing shut by itself and youll be trapped there forever, just like the ghost of the mistress.

5. Peggys Cove

On a rocky outcrop in Nova Scotia, you can find a lonely lighthouse. The story goes that in 1800, a woman named Peggy washed up on the rocks there after being shipwrecked. Tragically, her children all drowned. Peggy went on to marry one of locals and live on the cove. She would often walk along the rocks at night, calling out to them in her grief. One night, her husband went out with her and danced on the rocks to cheer her up. He lost his footing and slipped, sending him into the rocks which killed him. Soon after, she jumped off the same rocks and ended her life. Visitors swear that on dark stormy nights, you can see the ghost of a woman in a blue dress standing at the edge of the rocks, ready to jump.

4. John Troyer

By all accounts, he might be the closest thing Canada has to a witch hunter. He was born into an Amish family in America before replacing to Ontario in Canada. He was a Dr who was terrified of witches. Legend says that he would stalk witches in the woods until they led him to their den. He would then steal the broomsticks for personal transport. He would also set up witch traps to capture them. Whether or not you believe the whole broomstick or witches thing, there is evidence of John Troyers traps which are essentially human sized bear traps.

3. The Dungarvon Whooper

This is a famous ghost story coming from New Brunswick and dating back to the late 19th century. According to legend, a young Irish cook called Ryan worked at a lumberjack camp. While the other lumberjacks were out, the boss killed Ryan. When they return, he told them Ryan got sick and died suddenly. They bury him some distance from the camp. However, a loud whooping sound kept them awake. The whooping got so loud that they fled the camp, convinced it was Ryans vengeful ghost. In the years since, many have reported the Whooping that can be heard in the woods, as Ryan seeks vengeance on the living.

2. The Legend of Rose Latulippe

This is a French Canadian legend that dates back to the 18th century. There are more than 200 different versions of the legend but they mostly share the same theme. Rose Latulipe was a young girl who loved to dance. On the night of Mardi Gras, a stranger appeared at her house and danced with her until midnight. At that moment, he was revealed to be the devil. She tried to escape but it was too late, the Devil took Rose back to hell where she remains to this day, dancing with her at his whim.

Legend says that treasure an be found on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Since the 19th century, people have been convinced that the treasure there includes the likes of Mari Antoinettes jewels and even missing Shakespeare manuscripts. 10. The Demon Bride of County Monaghan

This is a story of death. The Demon bride is said to have terrorised funeral goers for at least 200 years - her victims now lie in the churchyards where they fell. Across County Monaghan, people report the same thing - the demon bride watches funerals and waits as the deceased are laid to rest. As everyone leaves, the Demon Bride approaches a young man straggling behind. She transforms into a beautiful young woman and makes him promise to meet her a month from that day back at the graveyard. She seals the deal with a kiss and then vanishes. As he leaves the graveyard, his blood runs cold and a deep sense of despair washes over him. He realises he has sold his body and soul to the evil spirit and his life has been forfeited. Over the next month, he descends into madness before eventually dying. He is laid to rest in the same graveyard as before, exactly a month after he first met the demon bride - his promise fulfilled.

9. The Banshee

The Banshee is a female spirit that wails in the night as a sign that death is coming for a family member. Legend says the banshee has long, streaming hair, wears a grey cloak over a green dress and her eyes are red from constant weeping. Men travelled from all over Ireland in the hopes of being with her. However, she fell in love with a local man who was very poor. One day, she gave up hope of her true love ever rescuing her and committed suicide by refusing to eat. Her dying breath was of vengeance against the living. Her undead corpse rose from the Earth on the night she was buried, thirsting for the blood that was taken from her. She was now the Dearg-Due, stealing blood from children, from the innocent and especially from young men. She would call to them in the night with a haunting siren song that lured them to their deaths. Some say she still wanders to the Irish countryside at night, calling out to her next victim …

7. The Changelings

These are mythical fairy creatures that take the place of a newborn human child that has been stolen by the fairies. The fairies will still the child to act as a servant. Families would try and see if their baby was a changeling through a number of different ways. One involved placing them over a fire. If the baby wass a changeling, it would leave by climbing up the chimney. The real child would then be returned. It was thought that the fairies prefered to steal baby boys. As a result, many Irish families would dress their baby boys in dresses as to confuse the fairies.

6. The Dullahan

The Dullahan is a headless rider of the night who carries his own head under one arm. His mouth is locked in a hideous grin that touches both sides of his head. His flesh is rotting and he uses the spine of a human for a whip. His job is as a foreteller of death. Where he stops riding, a person is due to die. He will call out the persons name at which point they drop to the floor dead. There is no way to stop the Dullahan - all locks and gates open when he approaches. They don't like being watched either and will throw blood over anyone who dares to do so - this is also taken as a mark that they are among the next to die.

5. The Fetch

The Fetch is a supernatural double of a living person. You could have your own Fetch. They are like a doppelganger but with more sinister undertones. Their sightings are regarded as an open of impending death. If a person sees this dark double of themselves, its said to mean they are going to die. Sometimes The Fetch may even have a clue as to how that person will die - perhaps a bullet wound in the head or a slash across the chest. Either way, its not something you want to come across. The Fetch is said to appear ghostly or shadowy and may vanish down alleys or halls if followed.

4. Puca

According to Irish folklore, these are strange little creatures obsessed with causing as much havoc as possible. They visit farms and seaside communities to tear down fences and disturb the animals. The creepy part is that the legend says the Puca sometimes stands outside the farmhouse and calls the people outside by their name. If anyone steps out, the Puca will carry them away forever. 3. The Alp-Luachra

This creature is also known as the joint eater. Don't worry, it doesnt eat your joints - but this creature does something just as strange. Its said to be a newt like creature that preys on people who fall asleep near rivers or streams. It jumps down their throat and lives in their stomach so that it can eat the victims food. In the collection of folk tales called Beside the Fire, a farmer who was starving from an Alp-luachra found a way to get rid of the creature. He ate large amounts of salted meat until he could eat no more. Then he lay by a stream with his mouth open. The Alp-luachra were driven to thirst by all the salt and eventually, they all jumped out of the man and into the water.

2. The Black Cat of Killakee House

There is said to be a beast that wanders the forests of County Dublin around the old Killakee House. The animal has been sighted for centuries and people say its supernatural. For many people though, this was nothing more than  superstition. That was until 1968 when a young couple bought the Killakee house and started renovating it. The hired workers reported strange noises and events and a big black cat with demonic eyes that haunted them. It would appear and disappear in a moment. The owners didnt believe them until they saw it too - standing in the hallways, staring and snarling. The couple got a priest to perform and exorcism on the house which seemed to rid it of the beast for a while. Then a group of actors held a seance in the house which brought the black cat back with many swearing it still prowls there to this day.

Some say these spectral creatures are demons but a closer term would be malicious spirits. The Slaugh are dead sinners who have been doomed to spend an eternity hunting for the souls of people who are dying. According to Irish Folklore, they come from the west, flying like a flock of birds, trying to enter a house where they sense someone is dying in order to steal their soul and rob them of a happy afterlife. It was said that many family would actually shut their west facing windows at all time to keep the Sluagh out of them homes. Some folklore experts have compared this to the Wild Hunt, a European folktale about ghostly hounds or spirits traveling around in packs foretelling of death and disaster.

Hospitals can be a scary place to be at the best of times, but these horrifying stories make them like truly terrifying places best avoided. To make matters worse, some digging and some of these urban legends have turned out to be true.

10. In Germany
Legend has it that an abandoned hospital is over run by zombies. The Kinderkrankenhaus on the outskirts of Berlin is pretty terrifying a) because it is an abandoned Children’s hospital and B because it might be infested by brain sucking zombies. Frim the outside, the the building in the woods has been battered by the elements and ransacked by vandals. Who knows what is going on on the inside….Urban legend in the nearby town is that the old abandoned hospital is home to a number of zombies waiting to strike. Those who dare visit the location have taken some terrifying pictures if the interior and exterior. On the flip side, though, some of the graffiti is pretty cool. My question is, are they regular zombies, or child zombies?

9. Killed By Death
Killed by death is an urban legend that focuses on sick kids in a childrens hospital. Children are admitted to the hospital with severe flulike symptoms and see a creepy, nightmarish monster stalking the corridors at night. Those still ill with the flu are taken, one by one at night by the Kindestod, which means the Childs Death in German. The Kindestod sucks out the kids souls, leaving them to die prematurely, with doctors thinking it was their weak immune systems failing to fight off the flu. Only people with the flu can see the monster, leaving healthy people to think the kids are delirious when they complain of seeing the beast. It turns out that while this creepy child killing monster seems like the stuff of Urban legends, after some digging, I found it was an adapted creepypasta from a 1998 episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

8. Red Wrist Bands
The wristband story is a creepypasta about a doctor who sees dead people. Basically the story goes that a Doctor Ulman was working as a surgeon and unfortunately could not save the life of one of his patients. As a signifier that this patient was dead, Dr Ulman placed a Red wristband on the deceased. After cleaning up and taking a moment, Dr Ulman hopped in the hospital elevator to take a break in the cafeteria. As he was heading down, a woman in a hospital white gown hopped in after him. Ever the gent, Ulman asked which floor the woman was heading to. She said she was expected in the morgue. Baffled, Dr Ulman noticed another passenger try to jump in the elevator, but miss as the doors closed in his face. Ulman locked eyes with the man before the doors shut. He went white. The lady asked what was wrong. He said that he thought the man was a patient who had just died. The woman asked how he could be sure, and Dr Ulman said that he was wearing a red wristband. The woman smiled and held up her arm, and said…like this one? The elevator went down.

7. You should never go to a hospital at the beginning of a fiscal year because you’ll get hurt. Ooh, fiscal year….talk sexy to me. No, seriously though, this is actually an urban legend. People think that if they go to a hospital, particularly a training hospital, they are likely to suffer an injury at the hands of doctors because the new fiscal year marks a new intake of junior doctors who are inexperienced. While there is some slight evidence to back this up, health care providers insist this is an urban legend.

6. Babies Switched
At Birth We have all heard the urban legend of two babies born in the same hospital getting switched at birth, right? They are then brought up by the wrong families and on their 18th birthday they find out they were actually switched? It’s a classic, there was even a TV series about it on ABC. Well, this actually does happen! How scary would it be to realise you were actually from a whole other family entirely and you could have had a very different life? This happened to Doris Gruenwald, born in 1990. 27 years later, following a routine blood test, she found out that she had been given to the wrong family. Speaking to local news outlets, she said: My whole body started shaking... It was like the ground under my feet disappeared. The woman from Australia took University Hospital Graz to court, and the medical facility was ordered to pay 90 thousand euros in damages. This is a crazy story….

5. Toxic Blood Infects Hospital
On a cold February evening in 1994, a 31 year old women, Gloria Ramirez, visited a hospital in Riverside California. The woman was ill and had been previously diagnosed with cervical cancer. The woman had some unusual symptoms…her heart was beating rapidly, he blood pressure plummeting and she was taking slow shallow breaths. She was injected with valium and other drugs to sedate her. When she was stripped of her clothes, they noticed her body was covered in an oily sheen and there was a garlicy odor coming from her mouth. When her blood was taken, they noticed it smelled very strongly of ammonia. The medics who had taken her blood became queasy, then fainted.

One stopped breathing for several minutes and another shook uncontrollably, losing the feeling in their limbs. It seems that Ramirez was releasing a toxicity. 23 of the 37 emergency room staff members on shift that day experienced symptoms, 5 were hospitalized and one spent two weeks in intensive care for apnea. Ramirez died that evening and there was no official explanation from Livermore investigators for the bouts of illness on the ward. Weirdly enough,this Urban Legend seems to actually be true – there are news articles and studies about the incident. Well, this urban legend turned out to be true.

4. Dr Death
Dr Death is the legend of a seemingly lovely family doctor who would charm the elderly within his care. Secretly though, he was convincing the vulnerable OAPs to write him into their Wills, then slowly killing them off with lethal drug combinations. When they died, he recorded their deaths as old age and would pocket their money. Sounds like a murderous creepypasta, but it is true. In the late 90s in South Manchester , UK, Linda Reynolds of Donneybrook Surgery expressed concerns about the high mortality rate of Dr Harold Shipman’s patients.

Police were alerted, but unable to initially gather enough evidence. 6 months after the initial claims, Police found sufficient evidence that Dr Shipman was spiking his elderly patients with Diamorphine and forging their wills. In total, Harold Shipman is thought to have killed over 215 patients between 1975 and 1998. The majority of his victims were woman, although he did kill some men. The majority of the victims were over the age of 75. The youngest was in their 40s.

3. The Legend of the Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital
You could not pay me to go here….you literally could not. This is an old, abandoned mental asylum in New Zealand of all places. Staff were nasty to patients, with many abuse claims and even murder claims coming from relatives of those admitted to the facility. Interestingly, despite many patients dying in their stay at Kingseat, it is said by locals that more staff members and nurses died than any of them.

There are suggestions that something in the place led people to suicide. Now the building is abandoned, which makes it even creepier. I have no idea why you would ever visit, but if you did, you can still see the scratch marks on the wall where patients tried to claw their way out of their rooms. That is not all you might find, either. It seems that the building has been at the centre of paranormal investigations for years, with local legend saying the building is haunted by as many as 100 ghosts, most famously the ghost of a grey looking nurse. Get me awaaaay from there.

2. The Russian Sleep Experiment
The Russian Sleep Experiment was a hospital experiment that was said to have taken place in Soviet Russia on political prisoners during world war 2. Russian doctors were reportedly fascinated by the reason why people sleep and the use of sleep deprivation as torture. Prisoners were told they would be freed if they took place in a 30 day experiment. Allegedly, a special gas was used by medics to keep patients awake. For five days, patients were seemingly okayish, but after the five day mark, they became increasingly paranoid and erratic.

After 9 days they started screaming until they tore their vocal chords. Then patients began smearing their faeces over the room they were in. After 14 days, the captives became very quiet and claimed they no longer wanted to be free. In this time, one of the test subjects had passed away. When the gas was turned off that was keeping them from sleeping, the remaining patients screamed that they wanted the gas back on. They had torn muscle and skin from their bodies, with some organs even being removed and thrown on the floor.

Eventually the patients could no longer be described as human or even human looking. When asked what they were, one of the subjects smiled and said We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread.". Rhiiiiiight. This is probably just an urban legend, but honestly who knows when it comes to war crimes committed by Soviet Russia. 1. Chinese Hospitals Sell Dead Babies to Eat
The rumour was that a number of hospitals in China were selling aborted child foetuses as Chinese people believed that eating the will boost stamina and sexual health. This, unfortunately, is true. It was even reported that surgeons were eating the foetuses themselves. In 2011, South Korean Customs seized 17 thousand pills containing powdered baby flesh that had been smuggled in from China. There was a documentary made about the practice that aired in South Korea that showed doctors refrigerating dead babies. An undercover reporter learned that corrupt medics at hospitals are selling the dead babies on to paying customers who want to eat the babies for their health. One consumer said that he would cook the foetuses in a soup with ginger and orange peel.

10. Bloody Mary experience
One night at a slumber party, all of the girls dared one of them to go into the bathroom and call out Bloody Mary’s name. The friend accepted this dare but she was also terrified to death. After fifteen minutes had passed, they heard the poor girl scream and she was struggling to open the door. When her friends finally got the door open, the girl in the washroom was whimpering, shaking and crying for help. 9. Classic Bloody Mary
Three friends were hanging out on Friday the 13th and they were talking about Urban Legends, especially Bloody Mary. So, they all convinced one another to try the ritual for themselves. The three of them gathered candles, went into a pitch-black bathroom and waited until 2:55am. They chanted bloody Mary 13 times and all of a sudden, they saw a swirl of smoke and a figure of an old woman appear in the mirror. All three girls instantly screamed, turned on the lights and Bloody Mary vanished. But that doesn’t mean that they are safe.

8. Queen Mary the first
The origins of Bloody Mary vary from country to country but the most popular theory is that Queen Mary I is the spirit of Bloody Mary because during her reign as Queen during the Tudor period, she was nicknamed Bloody Mary because she had an unusual amount of miscarriages and she was also very quick to order executions during her five years as Queen of England. In some versions of Bloody Mary, the person is supposed to chant her name three times and then say “I stole your baby” or “I killed your baby.” Which is an awful and pretty harsh was to summon an already aggressive ghost.

7. The mirror cracked pierces
A group of girls at a summer camp thought it would be fun to summon Bloody Mary. Personally, this isn’t my idea of a good time, but that’s just me. So, they ran into a dark bathroom and chanted her name three times. At first, nothing happened so the girls were mocking bloody Mary but then the mirror began to violently crack and all of the girls ran out of the bathroom except for one because she was paralyzed with fear. The next morning, they all laughed about the incident but they all vowed to never attempt to summon her ever again.

6. The Japanese version of Bloody Mary
Different regions and cultures have their own versions of Bloody Mary and this is the Urban Legend that is haunting Japan. According to the legend, if someone goes into the third stall of the girl’s washroom on the third floor of a school, then knocks three times and asks “Are you there, Hanako-san?” the spirit will answer, “I am here.” And then if you chose to enter the stall, there will be a small girl wearing a red skirt waiting for you. Some people have claimed that after summoning her, Hanako-san’s bloody hands can be seen from under the door. Some people have even said that if you enter the stall, you will be eaten by a three-headed lizard.

5. Dead silence
Two friends just finished watching a horror movie and one of the friends wanted to scare the other one. So, she took her friend into the bathroom, chanted Bloody Mary three times and waited for her to appear. After a couple of minutes, she was disappointed and decided to turn on the lights when all of a sudden, she saw a third reflection in the mirror. When she looked closer, she saw a black and white woman with her mouth wide open. This sent shivers down their spines because they were expecting this figure to let out a piercing scream. They all brought candles into the washroom, turned out the lights and began chanting her name. That’s when they saw an old woman with cuts and scrapes all over her wrinkled face. She also had chains tightly looped around her neck and shoulders. The girls were so frightened that they all began to scream and suddenly the shower curtain burst into flames. They all ran out of the bathroom and her older brother put out the fire. These girls were blamed for the fire but they all know what the truth was that night.

3. The possession
When Amanda was only 12 years old, she attempted to summon Bloody Mary and ever since that night, she believes that Bloody Mary’s spirit opened up a portal that allowed demons and ghosts to enter into her soul. As she grew up, she believed that she was possessed by demons so she became addicted to drugs, she suffered from psychosis and she was even institutionalized for a month. Amanda has even attempted to perform many exorcisms without any success. So now, lots of people believe that if you attempt the Bloody Mary ritual, you are opening up a portal for demonic spirts that can really harm you.

2. The red reflection
Lauren and her friend were driving one night and they started talking about the scariest urban legends. Bloody Mary came up and they thought it would be cool to see if this urban legend was true or not. So they pulled over and went inside of a gas station’s bathroom. They turned off the lights, splashed water on the mirror, spun around and chanted bloody Mary three times. When these girl’s looked into the mirror, they discovered that one of their reflections began to turn red. They kept staring at the reflection for a couple more minutes and then they ran out of the bathroom in fear. Once they were far enough away, they realized that one of the friend’s face was covered in blood and once they cleaned it up, she had tiny scratch marks all over her face.

1. Bloody Mary ritual
This is definitely the worst-case scenario when attempting to summon this evil spirit and although this might just be an urban legend, it’s still enough for me to never want to attempt to summon her spirit. This urban legend focuses around two friends who wanted to provoke Bloody Mary. They summoned her by writing 666 on the mirror with red lipstick, lit some candles and only one of them stayed in the bathroom because they thought that it wouldn’t work if more than one person was inside. After he chanted her cursed name, the candles went out, the door was locked and his friend couldn’t get into the bathroom to save him. After fifteen minutes of trying to break into the bathroom, he finally got in and saw his friend’s lifeless body resting on the sink.

Scary Indian Urban Legends

Today are continuing our world tour of Urban Legends with a highly requested country - India. India has more history than some other countries combined and as always, with history comes stories and some of them are scary. Lets take a look at the Top 10 Scary Indian Urban Legends.

10. The Muhnochwa

In 2002, the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was gripped by a panicked frenzy. People had reported seeing the Munochwa - a beast thats name roughly translates to The Face Scratcher. It would reportedly dash through the air at night like a UFO, emitting red and green beams of light. When it got close, it would slash their face with steel claws, leaving deep scratches that burnt and bled. As the panic continued, the theories began. Some said it was an angry spirit or an elemental creature. Pakistans intelligence agency even chipped in to suggest it was a chemically engineered insect. Whatever it was, people were so scared they held special ceremonies at their local temples to ward away The Face Scratcher - some believe it may return again.

9. Nale Ba

In the 90s, there were reports of a witch visiting houses in Bangalore India. She would come at night, knocking on the door and calling out to the person inside. Whats creepy is she was said use the voice of one of their relatives, especially their mothers. If they opened their door, theyd be dead within 24 hours. As panic spread, rumours of a solution did too. Some said to write -Nale Ba- on the door. That means -come tomorrow- so the witch would see the sign and return the next day. For many years after, it this became a tradition - a way of warding off evil spirits. Some say that Nale Ba has been forgotten by the younger generation, who have now put themselves at risk of the witch returning again.

8. The Wolves of Pavagada

In 1983, several girls younger than 5 went missing at night in the village of Pavagada. They were taken right under their parents noses but nobody saw who or what did it. On one occasion, villagers found a pool of blood and the clothes of the missing child. The footprints of an animal were visible and the police dogs tracked the sent back to a cave, its entrance blocked by a wall of bricks. The police claimed that man eating wolves were on the prowl. Others were confused though, why would all the targets be girls - all of them the only daughters of their parents. Why were they always taken from their sleeping parents and why were there no drag parks on the ground? One father even reported the wolf threw stones at him. This led some locals to believe the children were actually taken by a cult of black magic practitioners who were using them as human sacrifices to the Goddess Kali. To this day, the case remains a mystery.

7. The Milk Miracle

20 years ago a rumour began spreading around India that Ganesh idols everywhere were drinking milk. When people held a spoon or bowl of milk to the lips of the idols, the milk would slowly get depleted. In just a few hours, news had spread beyond India and Hundi temples in the UK, Canada and the US were reporting the same phenomenon. Hindu organisations announced that a miracle was happening. Some scientists have claimed it was caused by a mix of surface tension, the capillary effect and confirmation bias.

6. Jhalak Dikhlaja

Thats the name of a song by a popular India musician back in 2006. It dominated the music charts for weeks but among all the hype, there were some darker stories attached to it. Some people said the song was attracting the dead. In the small village of Bhalej, locals claimed that one of the lyrics was acting as a call for ghosts. They said people were becoming possessed by evil spirits after hearing the song and were going to the local priest to be cured. It was also claimed that listening to the song in the local graveyard was practically inviting possession. In the end, fear of the song grew so much that the village actually banned the song - nobody was allowed to play it. Presumably the possessions stopped - what do you guys think of that? Can a song on the radio be cursed?

5. Monkey Man

In 2001 people in Delhi claimed that an ape-like monster was roaming the streets at night. It was said to be attacking people. Description of the Monkey Man differed but it was about four ft tall, covered in thick black hair, with a metal helmet, metal claws, glowing red eyes and 3 buttons on its chest. Many people reported being scratched and some even said 2 or 3 people died when leaping from the tops of buildings or stairwells in a panic. Its been years since the event but some people still claim the monkey man is out there and could attack another day.

4. Kuldhara

Established in the 13th century, this used to be a prosperous Indian village for hundreds of years until the early 19th century when everyone disappeared. Years later, some historians said this was due to a lack of water or heavy taxes on the people - but the legend is much darker. People say that the leader of the area was attracted to a beautiful girl from the village. He sent his guards to force the villagers to hand over the girl. The villagers asked the guards to return the next morning and while they were gone, they abandoned the whole village. The village chief then cursed the abandoned village for eternity, meaning anyone who lives there will die. Those who have dared to stay overnight have reported supernatural happenings such as shadows in the night, footprints and mysterious noises.

3. Mande Burung

For many people, this is the Indian equivalent of the North American bigfoot. The Mande Burung is an ape like creature said to inhabit the subtropical forests in Northeast India. Its been described as a large, hairy bipedal hominid. The locals call him the -Man of The Jungle- and say theyve seen it for generations. More often though - they hear it - its strange calls echoing out across the rice paddies. Some say it stands 10ft tall and weighs over 600 pounds. In 2008, a gro7up of yeti hunters gave two hairs they found to a renowned British primatologist. After examining them, Ian Redmond said they most closely resembled human, chimp, gorilla or other so called -yeti hair- samples … but with or without science to back it up, the legend lives on.

2. The White Lady of Sanjay Van

In the forest of south delhi, people have reported seeing a spectral woman in a white saree. She is said to walk among the banyan trees before disappearing. Some reports say theyve seen her hanging from the trees and that this is what ended her life. One local said -she comes alive at night, when those leaves start glowing. There are many such lovely spirits here- … personally, I wouldnt use the term lovely to describe that. Shes also said to wave at you and then disappear. Thats a definite nope from me.

1. The Onion Witch

In 2005, reports of a witch visiting homes in Delhi was said to be linked to a number of deaths in the Indian capital. According to the rumours, a witch in the guise of a hungry woman rang peoples doorbell and asked for an onion. If shes given the onion, she cuts it in half and blood squirts out. The onion donor then dies instantly, a moment after realising what has happened. Some say it wasnt just 1 but rather 3 witches. Locals began applying palm prints of turmeric and henna on doors to ward off the witches and some still fear their return.

Its about time we talked about France! Its a country known for its rich history and culture - but today were not going to be talking about restaurants, museums and buildings - were going to be talk about the dark stories that have haunted the people of France for hundreds - or even thousands of years. Will they end haunting you too? And this is the Top 10 Scary French Urban Legends

10. The Lou Carcolh

This urban legend originates from the Gascony region of France. The Lou Carcolh is said to be a disgusting, grotesque creature that wanders the countryside of southern France. Its described as half snake, half snail. Its massive and long body carried an enormous shell on its back. Its hideous mouth is surrounded by several long, hairy and slime covered tentacles that can extend for not inches or feet - but for miles, yes, miles. They send these tentacles stretching out from the caves they live on. They wait for people to accidentally touch one and then - bang - they grab hold of you and drag you down underground where they swallow you whole with their huge mouth.

9. Meat Pies

In the 15th century, the story goes that a barber and a cook made a deal in Paris. The barber would slit the throats of his clients who were mainly poor college students. He would then chop up their bodies and send them through a trapdoor to a cook - straight to his kitchen. The cook would then use the human meat for his pies - there were many different flavors and sizes to reflect the diversity of his supply … business grew for both of them and the bakers became one of the citys most well known Patisseries. Nobody was wise to what was going on - at least no human. One day, a German student called Alaric was visiting the barber. His dog sensed that something wasnt right and began barking at the  neighbors. When people came to investigate - they found the cellar, full of torture tools used to hack apart the corpses. The two men confessed to their heinous crimes and were burnt alive in iron cages.

8. The Peluda

This creature has been a feared part of French folklore for generations. Its name means -hairy or shaggy beast- but to be honest - its a whole lot more than that. They are said to have stingers like a porcupine, the head and neck of a snake, tortoise feet and a serpent tail. Their breath withers crops, they can fire their quills like arrows, spit acid out of their tail and if they attack you - youre doomed - they are said to be invulnerable all over their body except for their tail. With their huge size, people say they could create floods simply by stepping on rivers. Some believe that the Peluda was on of the animals that was not saved by Noah and his Ark in the Bible. However, it still survived the Great Flood that came by hiding in a cave. Afterwards, it went on a rampage across the world - killing everything that got to board the ark. Some say it still continues this today, even if theyre only left in France.

7. The Chateau de Trecesson

This is a medieval castle in the Brittany region of France. From the outside, its an impressive looking building - attracting tourists from all over - but don't be fooled by its outward charm, the Chateau is famous for its terrifying ghost stories. One night, many years ago, a black coach stopped near the moat and two men got out. They used shovels and picks to dig a deep grave in silence. From the coach they dragged a young woman dressed as a bride - her face as pale as her dress. She doesnt cry or beg for mercy as her executioners lay her in her grave and cover her with dirt. The men then ride off into the darkness. A local man saw the whole thing from the trees and gathered the other villagers to help. They dug her up and tried to save her but by sunrise she had died without saying a word. They never knew who she was or why they killed her - but it wasnt the last time people saw her. In the centuries since then, locals have sworn they still see her ghost floating on the waters of the moat, still in her wedding dress - and still deathly silent.

6. Catacombs

This is perhaps one of the most famous and creepy parts of Paris. They are a series of tunnels that wind underneath the city. They are said to hold the remains of some six million people there. They were first started in the late 18th century to help deal with the citys overflowing cemeteries. A sign at the entrance reads -Stop! This is the empire of the dead!800 meters of the walkways in lines entirely with bones. Over the years locals have shared stories of dark goings on among the bones - legends of Masonic cults meeting, black masses, Nazi Gatherings, gang fights and serial killers.

5. The Wooden Leg

In The Chateau de Combourgis, there is a ghost with a wooden leg. It is said to be the ghost of Comte de Combourg - he was a general who lived there 300 years ago and lost his in battle, having it replaced by a wooden one. In life, his leg was said to send echos around the castle so that everyone knew where he was. After he died though, that never went away. In the years since, many visitors have said theyve heard his leg thumping in the night. Some even say theyve seen it walking up and down the stairs by itself - no body attached to it - accompanied only by a mysterious black cat.

4. A Strange Concert

On June 2nd 1925, a 24 year old medical student named Jean Romier was studying in a garden in Paris. An elderly man approached him dressed in a strange riding coat. The two men began to talk about classical music and eventually, the  old man invites Jean to come and listen to his concert he was putting on with some friends on Friday. Jean accepted and asked him for his name and address. He said he was Alphonse Berruyer and his address was Rue de Vaugirard, 3rd floor, on the left. Next Friday, Jean arrived at the given address and was welcome in where he met the Alphonses whole family. They were lovely to him but Jean couldn't shake this strange feeling that something wasnt right. Maybe it was the old fashioned apartment with its outdated decor and gas lighting. They musicians sit down and perform some classical music including Mozart. Jean stayed for a few hours after and talked to Alphonses about music. He thanked him and left.

Out in the street, he realised he had left his lighter inside. He went up and rang the bell but there was no answer. He kept trying until a neighbor came out and asked what the problem was. Jean said he is trying to see Alphonse but the neighbour said - I think youre mistaken, Jean has been dead for 20 years and that the apartment has been empty since then. Jean tells him thats impossible, he had just spent a whole night with him and his family. The neighbour started to become suspicious of Jean and accused him of being a thief. The police unlocked the apartment and took Jean inside along with the owner of the place - Alphonses great-great-great Grandson. They walked through the apartment which was now empty, when they got to the back room they found a side table covered in dust. There, sitting on top, was Jeans lighter. Some say Jean experienced a time slip, others refuse to believe this happened at all - either way, theres an official police report out there that contains this story - and many believe its unsolved.

3. The Tuileries Phantom

This is the story of a man called Jean. He worked as a butcher near the Tuileries palace in Paris during the reign of Catherine de Medicis in the 16th century. She ordered Jean to be killed because he had threatened to reveal many of the royal familys secrets. Just before he was executed, he told his executioner that he would rise from the dead. The executioner left Jeans corpse in the garden. He then went to tell Catherine the deed had been done. When he returned to the garden to dispose of the body, he found Jeans corpse missing. A few days later, the Queens astrologist reported having a vision.

In it, he claimed he saw all the inhabitants of the palace die a terrible death and that Jean would haunt the palace until it was destroyed. Not long after, the executioner was on his way to the palace when he looked behind him - and froze in horror. There stood Jean, drenched - as if he was still alive - covered in blood - thus began the legend of the Red Man. He is said to have haunted the grounds ever since. People believe that comes across Jean - the little red man - means a terrible tragedy will follow shortly.

2. The Devils door of Notre Dame

Notre Dame is a very famous Cathedral in Paris - many visitors notice its elegant side doors with their intricate iron pattern. They were designed by an artist called Biscornet - his talents were known throughout France. The doors were considered a masterpiece - taking months to complete in Biscornets workshop. Parisians were so impressed that some of them began to doubt he did it alone. This was the 1300s - an age of deep superstition in Europe - some people said that Biscornet had sold his soul to the devil in exchange for this masterpiece.

Locals said they had been to his studio during his work hours where they had found him unconscious on the floor next to the finished piece which had been mysteriously completed in record time. When they came to first use the door on the Cathedral, the priests claim that they could only get it to work after sprinkling it with Holy Water. Biscornet died soon after and in the years since, many experts have struggled to explain how he made this with the basic tools of the time. Some also point to his name - Bis means two or twice while cornet means horn - put it together and you have the two horned man.

1. Chateau de Brissac

This old French castle in the Loire Valley was first built in the 11th century. Its been almost a thousand years since then and its walls have seen some grizzly deaths and hauntings. Perhaps the most famous is the story of Charlotte. She was the wife of Jacques de Breze, the lord of the castle in the 1400s. One night, he came home after a hunt and had dinner with Charlotte - then, they went to bed in their separate rooms - the marriage was said to be for political reasons, not love. That night, he was woken by his servant who said Charlotte had another man in his room - it was one of his hunter partners.

He flew into a rage, grabbed his sword and attacked both of them - slashing and hacking away. By the time they were dead, their bodies had almost 100 wounds inflicted. Charlotte was actually the half sister of King Louis the 6th. He stripped Jacques of all his titles and took possession of his castle. As for Charlotte, well, people say she never left - her traumatic death made her a ghost, cursed to haunt the castle forever. They say at night on the walls of the castle you can see a female ghost in a green dress with bloody, gaping holes all over her body. She is silent except for when she returns to the room where she was murdered - where deathly moans and cries can be heard until dawn.

Top 10 Scary Pakistani Urban Legends

Alright so, urban legends have been circulating around the world for hundreds of years. These scary stories, rumors and myths have been spread in every country and Pakistan is no exceptions. So grab a friend because we are about to dive into this list of the top 10 scary Pakistani urban legends.

10. The Chadda group

During the 90’s, the Chadda group was known across the country as a scary and sinister group of young men who would break into houses and steal your most valuable possessions. Once they would break into your house, they would steal your valuables, break your possessions and do it all in record time. That’s because they are extremely stealthy, agile and they would lather themselves in oil or grease so that they would be impossible to catch. During these times, people were extremely scared of the Chadda group urban legend and they were always scared that they would be their next victim.

9. Contracting aids injects itself

There is an infamous urban legend in Pakistan that was circulated back in 1998 and it says that random victims who attended a crowded movie in a theatre or nightclub would be injected with Aids. It’s easy to say that this urban legend obviously isn’t real today but back then, people were legitimately scared that this would happen to them or their loved ones. There are so many chain letters that circulated all of the internet and here is an example of one. This creepy letter says, “Please check your chairs when going to the movie theatres! An incident occurred when a friend’s co-worker went to sit in a chair and something was poking her. She then got up and found that it was a needle with a little note at the end. It said, “Welcome to the real world, you’re HIV positive.” Yeah I think I would be totally freaked out too but thankfully we now know that this urban legend is just a myth.

8. The vanishing hitchhiker

Have you heard this one before? This is a common Urban Legend that exists in a bunch of other countries such as the UK, Algeria, Korea and Romania. Well the story goes like this, a young man is driving alone at night when all of a sudden he spots a beautiful woman on the side of the road who asks him for a ride. He picks her up and she tells him that she wants to go straight home. Once they are driving, she falls asleep in the back seat so when they get to her house, the man knocks on the door and tells the mother that he has her daughter in his car who is fast asleep. She tells the man that this can’t be possible because her daughter has been dead for a few years. When the man goes back to his car to check the back seat, all that remains are her clothes. There is no sign of this missing girl anywhere.

7. The haunted Devil’s point in Karachi

According to the local legend, there have been many reports of voodoo, dark magic and ghost sightings at this location. People have also claimed that they have seen a creepy and evil looking man sitting on a chair in the water, chanting something evil. People who have seen this man never went up to him because they were too freaked out to approach him. If I saw a scary old man, floating in the water on a chair, making some creepy chanting noises – I would probably run in the opposite direction and never look back. Actually, I would probably never go to a place that is known as Devil’s point. I think I would much rather spend my time at angels point, or heavenly point.

6. The Hathora group

In the late 1980’s, the city of Karachi had an increase in murders, and they all were done in a similar manner. At first, the police suspected that the killings were done by a sadistic serial killer but then the police theorized that the murders were actually done by a group of people who went out on a killing rampage. This group would supposedly break into your house, steal all of your valuables and then hammer you to death. This stirred up a lot of panic in this city which caused all of its residents to hire guards and beef up their security. The last known case was reported in May 1986 but no arrests were ever made and the mystery of the Hathora group remains unsolved to this day.

5. The Bride of Karsaz

There are a lot of reports of people claiming to have seen a ghost bride wearing a red dress at a very busy intersection in Karsaz. According to the legend, back in the 1970s a young couple was driving home from their wedding night when all of a sudden they got into a terrible accident that killed both of them. So now, people have said that if you are travelling on this road at night time, you will see a beautiful but scary ghost asking you for a ride. If you stop to look at her face, she apparently turns into something evil. Locals from this area have an unwritten rule. They will never travel along this road alone because they are scared that this evil bride will try to pull them over.

4. 40 dead children

The tallest peak in the Chiltan range is said to be haunted by the ghosts of 40 dead children. According to this local urban legend, a couple left 40 babies on top of this peak and left them there to either survive on their own or die. People have claimed that if you go to this peak at night, you can hear children crying out in sadness and begging you to climb up the mountain and rescue them. Well, I think it’s safe to say that I will never visit this peak in my lifetime.

3. Jinn’s breathe

Jinns are supernatural creatures with demonic tendencies and in Pakistan, there are countless urban legends that focus solely on Jinns. It is believed that if you wake up at 3 in the morning, it means that a devil was staring at you. Oh, and if you shower after sunset, you will probably get possessed by a jinn. They also love to attack you when you are sitting under a tree in the evening or night time, so you probably shouldn’t do that either. It is also believed that when you talk about jinns, they will gather around and listen to you. Great…so now my studio is going to be haunted by Jinns.

2. Pichal Peri flies

If you say Pichal Peri out loud she is supposed to make an appearance, so maybe she will appear in this video, hopefully not though. This demonic witch takes on two forms. In most stories, she appears as a beautiful woman who targets vulnerable men. Her entire appearance is disguised except for her feet, which point backwards. When she is in her true form, she looks like a witch with a long face, dirty fingers, a hunchback, messy hair, bloody clothes and large scary eyes. According to the legend, the Pichal Peri will kill any person who she encounters by ingesting their blood or ripping out vital organs from their bodies. Apparently, in many villages in Pakistan, lots of locals and tourists who go into the woods alone and they are never heard from again.

1. The Killer phone number

This urban legend goes by many different names. In Pakistan it is either referred to as the killer phone number, red number or cursed phone number. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you call it, it matters if you answer the phone or not. Legend has it that you should never answer a call from numbers that appeared red on the screen. These are known as cursed phone numbers and if you were dumb enough to answer the call, you would hear a high frequency sound that would case you to have a brain hemorrhage which would kill you instantly. And supposedly, there were dozens of reports of people who had already been killed by answering calls from these sinister numbers.

Top 10 Scary Swedish Urban Legends

10. The Silver Train
This is a true ghost train story. Locals called it the Silverpilen. In Swedens capital of Stockholm, legend says that passengers waiting on the platform may see a silver train slowly pull up. You must not get on. The train is heading to an abandoned station in the middle of the woods - its passengers are the souls of the dead. People who get on will never return. The legend is also connected to the abandoned Kymlinge metro station which is said to be a ghost station. Locals say only the dead get off at Kymlinge. Some even believe The Silver Train takes people to an underground station with  no exit - it never returns to pick them up.

9. The Palace of Scheffler
Located in the capital of Stockholm, ghosts have been reported in this palace for well over 200 years. Some of the stories involve people seeing mirrors and windows shattering for no reason as well as music and songs floating down the corridor with no source in sight. One notable story involves a man called Jacob Von Balthasar Knigge - trying saying that in a hurry. He was a former owner of the palace who was allegedly a worshiper of Satan. He disseapeared one night and witnesses said he was last seen entering a black carriage being pulled by a coachman with horns and a tail. Had he sold his soul to the devil? Some people certainly think so. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the creepy goings on here. The palace is now owned by Stockholm University who use it for storage - thats probably for the best.

8. The Borgvattnet Vicarage
Borgvattnett is a small village with just 50 residents there - but apparently a lot of ghosts. Its actually said to have the highest number of ghosts per people anywhere in the country. Perhaps the most haunted spot is the old vicarage. Built in 1876, it seemed like a normal building for some 50 years. Then, locals began reporting creepy goings on. Ghosts that are not just scary, theyre also violent. Some of the ghosts have reportedly knocked people out of chairs, moved furniture around while people are sleeping or even one case of a ghost throwing babies out of a window. If that sounds like your idea of fun, you can actually book a room there for the night and breakfast is included - if you make it to morning.

7. Toftaholm Herrgard
Some Swedish people proudly claim this place as the most haunted hotel in the world. Located along the edge of Lake Vikostern, the hotel is picturesque but comes with a dark story attached to it. One night, a young man killed himself in one of the hotel rooms after he was forbidden to marry the daughter of the landowner. Hed had a secret love affair with her for months but her father, a rich baron, refused to give their blessing because he was a poor commoner. Instead, he married her off to an older man not too dissimilar from the baron himself. Heartbroken, he hanged himself from the rafters of what is now room 324. While most visitors avoid that room, that hasnt stopped them seeing the ghost of the heartbroken man. He is said to wander through the hotel at night, shutting windows and crying out into the night.

6. Gamla Stan
In 1520, the Danish King Kristian the 2nd invaded Sweden. 92 members of the Swedish royal family refused to obey the invader so, Kristian sentenced them to death. All 92 of them were either beheaded or hanged in the main square of the Old Town of Stockholm known as Gamla Stan. Some say their blood flowed across the cobblestones for months. In the red building nearby, 92 white stones came to represent the 92 swedish nobles. Now, locals believe that if a stone is removed, the ghost of one of the dead nobels will rise up and haunt the streets of Stockholm.

5. The Skogsra
In ancient Swedish folklore, the Skogsra are forest spirits. From the front they look like a beautiful woman but from the back they resemble a tree trunk. There stories of men who were entranced by these spirits without ever seeing their other form from the back. The Skogsra wear the men down over days and weeks, draining them until they were helpless - playing on their temptations, fears and fantasies. If they manage to outsmart the spirit, the men will see their true form from behind and the Skogsra will disappear forever. If they do not, they are carried off into the woods at their weakest, never to be seen again.

4. The Mylingar
These are said to be the undead corpses or ghosts of infants murdered by their mothers. They haunt the places where they were buried with cries that pierce the night air. Why do they cry? Well, they want you to give them a name - they were often said to be killed before receiving a name, now thats all they want. Theyll ask you to carry them to hallowed ground to be buried - they grow in size as you get closer. There have been stories of these undead babies asking people for other tasks on roads at night - if they don't perform the tasks, the person will often return home to find a member of their family has been killed - often in the same theme as the original request. I would go into some of the details I saw but they really are gruesome. All you need to know is that theyre Zombie Babies - not two words you want to hear together.

3. The Nyk
Also known as the Nokken or Nykkjen, this is a mysterious water creature that always crops up in Scandanavian folklore. In Swedish tradition, the Nyk lives in freshwater, lakes and deep ponds. They are shapeshifters and will often transform into a handsome young man. They then trick women into jumping in the water before drowning them. There are also other versions of the legend that involve him changing into a white horse to let children ride on his back before jumping into his bond to drown them. Some believe the only way to save yourself is to throw metal in the water, like a needle or iron cross.

2. Stockholms Royal Palace
As you might expect from a palace, this place is huge. Many of its 1400 rooms come with some of Swedens most famous ghost stories. Among them is the White Lady, her name in life was Vita Frun. She is said to appear anytime a member of Swedens royal family dies. King Oscar once wrote that she is tall, wears a long white dress with a white veil and dark cloves. She wanders the rooms and halways clutching a ring of keys which jangle and echo in the night. In 1971, Princess Eugenie saw The White Lady 3 days before the death of Queen Louise. Over half a century before, she was also said to appear as Princess Margaret lay dying. Despite not actually being dead yet, a guard saw The White Lady standing on the roof - keys in hand. Two hours later, the princess was dead.

1. Svaneholm Castle
This is another castle in southern Sweden known for its high concentration of ghosts. Perhaps the most famous is King Frederik the 2nd who his said to wander the halls at night searching for his long lost love who he never married. Then there are the 3 ladies. In previous Urban Legend videos, you may have heard me talk about a castle or house having the White Lady, the Black Lady or the Grey Lady ghost. Things like that. Well, how about all 3. Thats right, visitors to Svaneholm castle have reported 3 seperate ghost ladies - some even say they compete for each others territory. Another regular on the scene is said to be the Grey Monk who was murdered in the castle in the 1500s and now occasionally helps staff carry heavy items up the stairs from the cellars.

10. Walt Disney Haunts Disneyland California
Walt Disney opened the original Disneyland in 1955 and he LOVED the place. In fact, saying he loved the place is a huge understatement. He doted on the place, he spent the majority of his time there until his death in 1966. Walt had an apartment above the Fire Station on Main Street. When he was in residence it is said he always kept a lamp burning in the window so everyone knew he was there. When he died, the lamp was switched off. Eerily, it seemed that the lamp would turn itself back on. One day, a staff member was cleaning the apartment when she heard a voice that said “I’m still here.” From that day on, Disney’s lamp keeps burning in the window as a mark of respect and acknowledgement for his ghost.

9. Real Skeletons on the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride
So according to legend, REAL human skeletons are used in the Pirates of the Caribbean Rides, and this is exactly what Walt Disney Ordered. Guess, this makes riding on the scary themed log ride even spookier, knowing you are surrounded by actual skeletons. Some people even say that Walt Disney’s own skeleton is hidden amongst the bodies on the ride. Now actually do know the truth behind this creepy urban legend – like most stories that have been passed down over the years, there is some truth in it. When the ride first opened in 1967, one year after Disney’s death, fake skeletons looked pretty rubbish….pretty…well..fake… so in the planning and building stage, Walt Disney wanted real skeletons to be used. He never got to see the finished product, but true to his wishes, real skeletons were indeed used. Eventually, though, they were replaced. Not only was it kind of morbid to have a bunch of dead people in a Disney ride, fake skeletons started looking a lot better. Now the only real human skull that still exists is on the headboard of a bed at Disney World, Florida…which is weird as that ride was never fully human skeletoned like California was.

8. Ghost Hitchhiker on Space
Mountain Legend has it that a red haired man who died on the ride still enjoys a spin today. The man, often dubbed Mr One Way, is said to have died in the 1970s while on the attraction. It is said that he sits next to single riders, but by the time the ride ends, there is absolutely no sign of him. For those that don’t see him, they say they can feel him behind them if there is an empty seat at the back. There have been a number of reports of the hitcher, and he may or may not have been caught on camera a couple of times, check this out.

7. Mowgli’s Palace
So this is kind of an urban legend creepypasta surrounding an abandoned Disney attraction. Redditor Slimebeast, aka Christopher Howard Wolf, write a post about an illicit visit to the grounds of a defunct Disney Theme Park in North Carolina. So allegedly, Disney wanted to open a Junglebook resort in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. From the very beginning it seemed to be fraught with issue, with locals not wanting Disney to but the land. None the less, it was bought and primed for opening when all of a sudden, the project just stopped.

The park was closed, employees were dismissed, the whole place was shut up and hushed up. According to the urban legend, a dude goes to explore, camera in hand, and finds the place in a state of expected disarray. He finds the words Abandoned by Disney graffitied in a number of areas. Eventually the intrepid explorer finds staff areas and deduces that the place was not just simply abandoned, it was evacuated. It is then the explorer finds mascot costumes. They are actually alive…or where…it seemed the costumes had skeletons inside them…as the explorer was trying to escape…he said he a mickey mouse chased him. While there have been some arial images posted of the secret park.

6. Sacrificed Snow White
A story submitted on Reddit four years ago really gives me the chills. Posted in the no sleep subreddit, Redditor Bleetch1994 shared his experience of working for the Magic Kingdom. Upvoted over 2 thousand times, the poster kept his real name anonymous. He said that 99 percent of all the work at Walt Disney World goes on after the show is over. He was working construction on the park for a while, mainly working on the Seven Dwarves Mine Train Ride which was set to open up. Long reddit story short, the guy said that a lot of the crew were sketchy about being alone in various places. They had to take their lunch breaks at 3am and one day the guy forgot his lunch bag and headed back to get it, but stumbled across what can only be described as a sacrificial cult scene.

Robed figures were crowded around a snow white character who was bound, gagged and crying. The guy said a half moon was carved into her forehead and she was cut by the figures. The guy said he turned and ran. The next day he told his older foreman what he had seen, now this man had worked at the park for nearly 4 decades. The foreman told him that he had seen a lot in his time at Disney and the land was brought from a lot of groups who required special payment in the form of blood sacrifice. He urged the construction worker to never discuss what he had seen, mentioning that the executives at club 33 were more powerful than he could ever imagine. He finished the reddit post by saying that he quit.

5. Platform D Bellhop on the Tower of Terror
In 2017, Walt Disney’s Hollywood Studios Tower of terror took its final plunge…but what will happen to the ghost of the Bellhop said to haunt the Twilight Zone? Built in **, legend has it that one of the Disney Cast Members who operated the ride as a Bellhop dropped dead one day on their shift. The Tower of Terror has 4 elevators, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta. The Bellhop died on Platform Delta as he loaded guests into the attraction. It seems that the man may never have clocked out from his shift. Disney cast members test the rides before they open to the public, and some have reported someone else sitting with them in the elevator when testing from Delta. There have even been pictures of a ghostlike figure sitting in the back of the ride. Again, a photo was taken after hours of the tower and some people have spotted a ghostly figure. The ride is currently being torn down to make way for a marvel attraction, so who knows what will happen to the ghost, perhaps it will make him angry.

4. Disney is Cryogenically Frozen
Don’t really know where this one comes from, but a lot of people seem to believe it! When the topic of freezing comes up, a lot of people cite Walt Disney as a main contender. Disney died of lung cancer in December of 1966 age just 65. The urban legend seems to come from a comment made by the president of the California Cyrogenics society in the 1970s. Bob Nelson told the LA tomes that Walt Disney Wanted to be frozen. This led to Disney’s daughter Diana making a public statement to target the claims, saying : There is absolutely no truth to the rumour that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen. If he had been frozen and we eventually found a cure for lung cancer, a whole new generation could enjoy Disney movies. Wonder how it would feel to be woken up over 50 years after you died.

3. Disney used Mind Control
Kids watching his movies because the illuminati told him to. There have been so so many Disney conspiracy theories out there that Walk Disney wanted to turn kids into sex crazed teenagers. Movies including Aladdin, the Lion King, who framed Roger Rabbit, Ariel the Little Mermaid and the Rescuers have all been accused of trying to brain wash kids with non pg content. So called truth seekers have tried to expose Disney for his sexual content, saying there is Sex written in the sky in The Lion King, that the genie in Aladdin tells teens to take off their clothes, and of course, there is Jessica rabbits vajay flash. Some say that Disney wanted to sexualise children from a young age as the illuminati wanted them to be targets of abuse. Disney’s club 33 has also been amid pedophile ring claims…but we’ll get to that later.

2. Small World Dolls
Move and Switch Places I think we can all agree that the It’s A Small World Ride is pretty creepy. It just is. Tiny Dolls scare me at the best of times, but tiny singing dolls…eeesh. It is also one of the oldest Disney attractions, which somehow makes the whole thing creepier. Anyway, legend has it that the dolls come alive when no one is looking. How do we know? Well, it seems that they have often been found in switched positions. Employees at Disney have mentioned it on several occasions, with many too freaked out to go near the ride. Some even go as far as to say the dolls keep singing after hours. Author Ridley Pearson is one of the more high profile people who swears he saw the dolls move… he was on a VIP afterhours tour and is convinced they have a life of their own.

1. Club 33 is the Illuminati Headquarters
There have been a lot of links between Walt Disney and the Illuminati. When Walt Disney was alive, many people accused him of being part of the freemasons, a group that is constantly linked to the illuminati. There definitely seems to be something shifty going on at Club 33, the exclusive club house in the Disneyland California location. It is the only place in Disneyland that serves alcohol. It actually seems that these days, clubhouses exist across the parks. Officially the club was intended for use by Disneyland’s corporate sponsors and industry VIPS. The location is somewhat hidden in New Orleans Square and gaining membership is by invite only. Paul Mcartney and Elton John are said to be members, although a lot of people are totally convinced something very suspicious and culty is going on behind those doors.
