“The Hairdresser’s Error” Urban Legends

A female hairdresser is prevailed upon to cut the hair of a man who shows up at her shop just at closing time. He explains that he is on a business trip, staying at a nearby hotel, and needs to look good for an important meeting the next morning. She fastens a sheet around his neck and reaches for her tools, then notices an up-and-down motion under the middle of the sheet—right in the man’s lap. Jumping to the conclusion that he is masturbating, the hairdresser hits the man hard enough with a hair dryer to knock him out; then she dials 911 and asks for help. The police arrive, remove the sheet, and discover that the man—who is just then regaining consciousness—had been cleaning his glasses under the sheet.

Sometimes the hairdresser hits the man with a bottle of shampoo or holds a straight razor to his throat while whipping off the sheet. In some versions, she even pounds the center of the sheet with a hairbrush, whereupon the man swears to sue her. Whatever the hairdresser’s reaction, and whether told in the United States, England, or New Zealand, where the story has circulated since about 1986, the man is always simply cleaning his glasses. Another twist places the scene on an airliner. Captain David L. Webster, a commercial pilot, sent me this version in 1996:

A pilot I was working with recently related this story to me. A captain he had recently been flying with was telling of a “personal” experience he had. The flight attendant called the cockpit to tell of a male passenger in the coach section who had a blanket over his lap and seemed to be masturbating under it. She asked for advice on how to handle the situation.

The captain chose to go personally back to the cabin and check on it. He decided to first walk by the passenger, casually checking out the situation. After waiting a moment or two in the back of the plane he approached the passenger. He decided first to casually engage him in some non-threatening conversation. The captain noticed that he had an expensive camera on the seat next to him, and he commented on what a nice camera it was. The passenger responded, “Yes, it’s new, and I’ve had the hardest time just now working under the blanket trying to get a roll of film unjammed.”

Top 10 Scary American Urban Legends

Weve done a few now and the response has been amazing - you guys seem to want to hear creepy Urban Legends from every single country around the world. If thats the case, let me know which country you want next but for now - were talking about a country you may have heard of - the United States of America. And this is the Top 10 Scary American Urban Legends.

10. The Grunch

This one comes from Louisiana. In the early days of New Orelans, there was a road called Grunch Road that went deep into the swampy woods before coming to a dead end - thats where the Grunch people lived - a strange hybrid of albinos and dwarfs - forced away from society and forced to live in their own community. As the years went by, people started to doubt the stories authenticity - but it sparked up again when people started disappearing down Grunch Road. Nearby farmers reported their animals missing or finding them dead and drained of their blood. Many locals now refused to head down Grunch road for fear of meeting the same fate.

9. Stull Cemetery

To those that know the stories, Stull Cemetery in Kansas is better known as the doorway to hell. Legend says that the devil himself chose the cemetery as his entrance from the underworld to our own. Its said that a tree once stood in the cemetery and an old tombstone inscribed with the word -Witch- … the tree was used to hang condemned witches who were put to death by the locals. The tombstone apparently marks the burial spot of Satans own child - a creature born deformed and covered in wolf hair. In modern times, the legend has continued with reports of the ground catching fire randomly. Pope John Paul the 2nd was said to divert his private plane around the cemetery because it was so tainted by evil. Whether or not you believe this all, theres plenty of videos on YouTube to checkout if youre interested.

8. Knock Knock Road

This is for all of you guys that get creeped out by Little Girl ghosts. The worst kind. Strasburg Road near Detroit has a disturbing tale of murder attached to it. Legend says a little girl was killed on the road in the 1940s. Ever since then, people have reported the same story. They stop at a traffic light and see, on the side of the road, a young girl standing - just standing and staring right at you. Whether they freeze or try to speak to her, she slowly walks forward to the car and stares at you with deep set, hollow eyes. She scans your face to try and find her killer and get her revenge, you better hope you don't look like them.

7. Char-Man

The story goes that in 1948, a wildfire swept across Ojaji California. The flames consumed a cabin where a man lived with his son. He was burned alive but his son survived - just barely though. When the authorities arrived, they found a shocking scene - the father had been flayed - his skin had been removed from his body and peeled off, his body hanging from a nearby tree. The police searched for the purportator - they heard a wheezing from a nearby bush and then suddenly, the son bolted out. The overpowering spell stunned the officers and in that moment, the boy ran into the trees and escaped into the hills. In the years since, many locals say they have seen the Char-Man in the woods, horribly disfigured by his burns and tormented by his past. Hes said to creep up on the tents of innocent campers, waiting for them to fall asleep.

6. Hells Gate Bridge

This one comes from Oxford Alabama. The story goes that in the 1950s, a young couple crashed their car off the side of the bridge and drowned. Now, some locals believe you cross the bridge at your own peril. One story is that if you drive your car out to the middle of the bridge and turn off all the lights, the couple will appear in your car, sitting behind you. When you turn around theyll be gone, leaving a wet seat behind. The other story is that if you drive over the bridge and look over your shoulder halfway through, the scenery behind you turns into a portal to hell - spouting fire and flames. Whether or not you believe this - its enough for some people to look for a different way to cross the river.

5. 100 Steps Cemetery

This is located in the town of Brazil in Indiana. Interesting name for a town - and the cemetery is even more interesting. Its been used for at least 150 years and in that time its gained quite a sinister reputation for a ghostly undertaker. The story goes that as you walk up the many steps to the top of the cemetery you must count each step. When you reach the top, you must turn towards the open field and the ghost of the cemeteries first undertaker will appear. Without saying anything, he will then reveal your own death to you in a vision. Straight away, you must proceed down the steps and count each one again. If the number is the different to the one counted on the way up - the vision was true. An added bous is that if anyone tries to cheat and climb up or down without using the steps, a ghostly hand will push them to the ground leaving a red imprint on their back for days as a mark of the devil. Definitely not a place to just got for a Sunday walk then.

4. The Goat Man of Pope Lick

This is an old Kentucky urban legend about a hideous being who roams the woods across the state. Those who have seen him describe the goat man as having dark fur, pale skin, goat legs and twisted horns. Some say he was an escaped circus freak, others say he was a farmer who tortured goats for Satan - Satan repaid him by turning him into a tortured goat himself. The Goat Man is said to hide under the rusty bridge that crosses Pope Lick Creek in Louisville. Legend says he lures people onto the train tracks and then takes pleasure in them being hit by oncoming trains. Please don't go looking for this one though guys, in 2016, a woman actually fell to her death from the bridge while looking for the Goat Man.

3. Slaughterhosue Canyon

With a name like that - you know its not gonna be a pretty story. During the 1800s Gold Rush, a family moved lived in the canyon in a wooden shack. Every day was the same, the husband would set off into the mountains to search for gold and food for his family. Then, one day he didnt come back - presumably injured or killed by animals, the mountain or other humans. His wife waited for her husband for weeks until they began to starve. Driven mad with the hunger and her childrens cries, she put on her wedding dress, picked up a knife and murdered her children, throwing them in the river and then weeping until starvation killed her too. Legend says that that if you visit the canyon today, you can still hear the Mothers painful cries.

2. The Blank Angel

This statue looks creepy as it is - an old, worn, corroded angel staring down over Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Her sinister appearance has helped spawn a number of different legends around her. One of them says that a pregnant woman should never walk under her lest they want to lose their unborn child. Another says that if you kiss or perhaps even touch the statue, youll be dead within 6 months. This is the kind of story that scares everyone off - whether or not you believe in curses - its just not worth even thinking about!

1. Cropsey

Many New Yorkers know the story of cropsey, the boogeyman of Staten Island. Legend says he was an escaped patient from a mental asylum who went on a murderous rampage. He had a hook for a hand which he would use to drag children back to the abandoned ruins of Seaview Hospital. Pretty creepy - but heres where it gets really scary. Many parents would tell this to their kids to scare them into being cautious about strangers even if they didnt really believe it. But then, in the 1970s, a real killer called Andre Rand really did start hunting children in a similar way. Was he using the Cropsey legend as cover? Either way, people take the legend a lot more seriously now. Wow America, you kinda creepy, you really are kinda creepy.

Top 10 Scary Fortnite Creepypastas

Creepypastas are typically terrifying legends or images that have circulated their way around the internet. They’re the modern day scary camps fire stories told on a much larger, more accessible platform. Which makes em pretty creepy. Whether or not they’re rooted in fact or fiction is entirely up to you. These days, it seems like any big part of pop culture has their own set of creepypastas, including video game sensations the likes of Fortnite. So today, we’re taking a look at ten of the creepypastas that have popped up concerning the game with our list of the top 10 scary fort nite creepypastas. And warning, some of these are just flat out bad. What do you expect, they’re creepypastas.

10. Followed
From YouTube channel FlipLaScript, Followed is a story about a gamer who used Fortnite to help with his mental health since he got into an accident and almost died. He keeps seeing a Rabbit with a ski mask who keeps paying him a visit whenever he plays the game. The Rabbit talks to him, telling him that he will never cheat death again. He thinks that his mother keeps letting the bunny man in, but she tells him he’s seeing things. So one Friday night, he plays a solo match and notices that everyone in the pre-game lobby has the default blonde guy skin. He ignores it, thinking he’s in a server with a bunch of noobs. The match begins, he lands at tilted towers - and apparently so is everyone else on the server.

He grabs a loot chest, scores a SCAR, and then starts taking out foes. He begins to suspect that they’re all bots - they’re names are “default fort nite player #”. Every time he gets to kill, another player named Frank gets a kill too. Finally, it gets down to just him and Frank, and that's when the player realizes who Frank is - it’s the bunny man, in the game - he tries to take Frank out, and that’s when he hears the demonic voice say I dare you to kill me. He keeps missing Frank and is soon out of ammo. Before he can switch weapons, Frank appears in person, and says outlaid, I dare you to kill me. The player dies of a heart attack.

9. The Bus Driver
Another CreepyPasta from FlipLaScript, this one is called the Bus Driver, and it’s about a scary easter egg. The player heard a rumor on Reddit about the battle bus - an easter egg you can only see on Friday the 13th. At the start of the match, on that date, don’t get out of the battle bus - stay until you’re about to get kicked off, then unplug your router. Plug it back in, and do not find a new game to join, and you’ll still be on the bus. So the player tries this, and it works. Except, it’s not what they expected.

It’s not going over the map, but rather, a ‘passage of time’; events throughout history playing on the screen in front of him. Then, he sees the future. He sees world war 3 break out, there is a nuclear fallout, and he sees his family members die. Time flashes forward again, and he sees himself, trying to survive with other war survivors. A missile drops down from the sky and kills him. He’s then kicked off the bus.

8. Disappearing Teddy
The disappearing teddies are nothing new in Fortnite - they’ve freaked out a few people in the past, but generally, they’re kinda cool. But this creepypasta makes em a little weirder than most of us would like. So this player is going through the motions of a regular match when he finds a box with the name Lucy on it. Opening it, he finds a rusty key and a diary. He reads the diary - it's about a 10-year-old girl named Lucy who, in the first entry, writes that it’s her birthday, and that her father took the day off work to spend it with her, and that her mother passed away recently. The player decides to keep reading in hopes to figure out what the key is. She continues to write about how her father grows increasingly distant, and how she was forbidden to go down into his laboratory.

The last entry reads that she’s going to go down into the lab with her teddy bear. The player starts to look around the house and finds a cellar door in the backyard. The key opens it. The player notices a burlap bag on the ground with a locket that reads ‘best mom ever’. There’s also a bit torn up a teddy bear. The player continues to search the cellar, going through another door, which has claw marks along the side of the wall. The player then finds a skeleton with a pistol next to it and a camcorder. The camcorder turns on, and it starts to play and it’s the dad panicking about the mother, and hearing animalistic noises in the background. The player beings to leave the cellar when he notices that the teddy bear that was there when he entered is now gone. Creepy.

7. Last One Standing
This one tells of a kid named Bill whose parents left for the night. The babysitter hadn’t shown up yet, so he went to his room to play some Fortnite. He starts a match, and everyone on his team had the Dark Knight skin on. All of a sudden, the lights in his house shut off. Bill goes to find a flashlight, but a notification pops up on his screen from an anonymous user that reads “Why’d you do that?” Bill was confused.

He goes downstairs and locks the front door. But then he hears a knock. He opens the door, and no one is there, except there’s a letter. He reads it, and the words “don’t lock, don’t look” are written on it, repeated over and over again, with the last word on the letter being “hide.” bill freaks out and hides under his bed. He feels the air on the back of his neck. He rolls over and sees a bunch of pairs of red eyes behind him. Bill disappeared from that day onwards, and his parents never found his body.

6. The Empty Lobby
From YouTuber Big Mama Eternal, this creepypasta is about a girl named Eternal who was a stripper. She used the Battle Hound skin, and thought of it as a lucky charm - she would often get a solid amount of kills when playing with it. There’s also mention of gonhorrea, but we’ll just skip over that part. Anyway, the skin started taking a life of its own and wanted all of the stripper’s attention, and one night when she returned home at 4am and booted up the game, the lobby was entirely empty. Her character wasn’t there. Thinking it was a glitch, she restarted her system and the game, but the lobby was still empty.

So she started the game anyway, and her character wasn’t there - just a view of the pre-game lobby and other players in the game. So she shut it off again, to play again in the morning. But the game kept crashing. In her headset, she could hear growling. The next day after work, she got home and put on her headset. The growling continued. But it wasn’t just coming out of the headset - it was in her room. She opened her closet and there was Battle Hound. Two days later, she was found dead in her apartment.

5. Supply Llamas
This one is about a player who finds a llama in the game. Immediately after, he gets a message from a user named Skull Killer 369, asking if he wants to get more supply llamas. But there’s a catch - the player must agree to give Skull Killer his soul as a trade. The player doesn’t take him seriously, so he agrees. Skull Killer 369 tells him that in order to do so, he can never turn off the game. The player agrees.

From then on out, the player starts finding supply llamas in every game. During one game, he and his friend decide to reset their match, and the player restarts the game on his system. He turns his system back on and he’s already in a new match. He then finds a different kind of llama - red and black ones instead of purple and blue. He opens it, and there are no supplies - but there’s a note. He reads the note and it says “I told you and you don’t listen”.

The player turns his system off for the night. The next day, he finds more llamas, three of them. It happens again the next day. The player goes to find his dad to show him how well he’s doing, and his dad looks at him and asks what are you doing in my house? He doesn’t recognize the player at all. Everyone knew he was good at the game, but his family didn’t know who he was at all afterward. Yeah, we didn’t say all of these were perfect horror stories did we now?

4. Red Team Leader
Another creepypasta from FlipLaScript, this one is about a player who buys CuddleTeamLeader from the Fortnite shop, seeing that the skin was only available for an hour. But when he uses the skin, the color isn’t pink - its blood red in the pre-game lobby. The match starts, and the skin is back to its regular pink. But, after the player kills two people, the skin starts to turn red. The more players he kills, the darker the red becomes. Eventually, he’s one of the last 10 people in the match.

After a solid firefight, he’s one of the last two and goes after his remaining opponent. But, as he takes him out, the player goes down - which is weird since it’s a solo match. He shoots again. Nothing happens, the player is down. That’s when his controller in real life starts to move. His avatar starts to move, too. He takes out an ax called chopping block and cuts off the enemies head, decapitating him. CuddleTeam Leader removes his mask, revealing its head - one eye shot out of his head, and slits on his face, forcing a smile on his face. Then the game ends.

3. The Storm
The Storm tells the story of a terrifying storm experience during a solo match. The player is going about their business, taking out foes, when they realize the storm is about to close in on them - except, it’s no regular storm. This one is red, with mist. So the player runs, heading towards the safe zone, but can’t quite get there - he gets caught in it. As he keeps navigating his way towards the safe zone, images start appearing in the storm - horrific images, ones that shouldn’t be in the game.

His body in real life starts to itch. He starts to feel pain. He keeps running in the game, heading towards what he thinks is a launch pad. His character’s health gets to 30. His body in real life begins to break out into hives. He gets to the launch pad and flies off, with his health at 20. His vision starts to get weird. His health falls to 10, the player starts to lose feeling in his body. This is when he breaks out into the safe zone, and all of his symptoms disappear. He quits the game and hasn’t played Fortnite since.

2. We Eliminated
You In this creepypasta posted (and beautifully drawn) by Jordan Persegati, we get the tale ‘we eliminated you’ – one of the more popular Fortnite creepypastas that have made the rounds on the interwebs, initially created by 34MatthewsHD. Anyway, it’s the story of a kid who hops on Frotnite after school one day when his mother hasn’t gotten home yet. Everyone in the pre-game lobby is wearing the cuddle team leader skin. Once he gets into the match, he realizes that everyone’s username is ‘we eliminated you’.

Which is weird, because you can’t have the same name as anyone else on the PlayStation Network, so he assumed he was on a server filled with hackers. The player made it into the top 3 and watched the last remaining two duke it out, waiting for the victor to the surface so he could take them out with a shotgun. As he was waiting, he noticed there was a structure built nearby – it read ‘we eliminated you’. This freaked him out, but he still ignored it. Eventually, the two cuddle team leaders who were duking it out finished, leaving one remaining foe.

The player popped out of his hiding spot and shot his head on. But it didn’t phase his opponent. He shot him again. Nothing happened. The player assumed it was a hacker. Eventually, the hacker shot him and knocked out the player. Frustrated, he turned off his ps4, annoyed. He decided to go get some fresh air, but before he can leave his house, he gets a text. It’s from a number he didn’t recognize, and it read “get ready for your final eliminate”. But what was worse was the photo attached to the text – an image of the player’s house.

The player panics and locks himself in his bedroom. He calls the police, and while waiting, he looks out the window and spots a mysterious figure watching him, wearing the cuddle team leader mask. He hides in his closet as he hears the mysterious figure come through his back door. As he’s hiding in his closet, his phone goes off and makes a noise – panicking, he looks at the phone, and sees that he’s gotten a text from that same number saying “I know that you’re in there.”

1. The Whisperer
This one tells the story of a boy named Timmy whose parents go out of town to visit his sick aunt. Home alone, the messages his pal Mark to come over and play Fortnite. But Mark wasn’t around, so he hopped on the Playstation communities to find a partner. He finds a post by a user named BattleBus524, who wrote “I’m the best Fortnite player of all time. I can carry you. Mic needed.” Not being over great at the game, this piques Timmy’s curiosity, but he was a bit concerned since the player spelled Fortnite as Fortnight. He reaches out anyway, and the guy’s name is Drew - a 31-year-old dude who lives fairly close to where Timmy lives. They started playing together, and Drew gets killed immediately. Timmy jokes about it, and Drew got really aggressive with him. The more they played, Drew started blowing things up recklessly and compromising their matches.

Drew then started whispering “behind you” to Timmy, even though no one was behind him. So eventually, Timmy gets annoyed, makes up an excuse to leave Drew, and blocks him, and starts going on solos. A few minutes later, a random user sends him a voice message. Timmy opens it, and the voice says “You shouldn’t have done that, I recommend you don’t block me again.” Timmy ignores it. 20 minutes later, Drew sends him another message. This time, it wasn’t a voice message - it was a photo, of Timmy’s house. A second later, another message pops up from Drew - Check your front door. Timmy goes down to his front door - no one is there. He looks down, and there’s a nutcracker there with a note attached to it. The note reads It reminds me of you - Timmy’s favorite avatar to use in the game. Timmy calls the cops, and messages his friend Mark, who tells him he was right about to message him - he saw a guy in the bushes out front of Timmy’s house. He goes to hide in his parent’s closet when he remembers that he didn’t lock the back door of his house.

That’s when he hears the door creak open. Timmy panics and keeps texting Mark who tells him to be quiet and not make a sound. He hears someone moving around the house, whispering I just want to play games. 10 minutes go past, and Timmy doesn’t respond to any of Mark’s messages. Finally, Mark gets a reply, with Timmy saying that one of their neighbors knocked the guy out. Mark asks if Timmy wants to come over and spend the night at his house. The message he gets back reads “Come over. I want to play Fortnite.” TIMMY’S DEAD MARK. TIMMY IS DEAD.

Scary Indian Urban Legends

Today are continuing our world tour of Urban Legends with a highly requested country - India. India has more history than some other countries combined and as always, with history comes stories and some of them are scary. Lets take a look at the Top 10 Scary Indian Urban Legends.

10. The Muhnochwa

In 2002, the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was gripped by a panicked frenzy. People had reported seeing the Munochwa - a beast thats name roughly translates to The Face Scratcher. It would reportedly dash through the air at night like a UFO, emitting red and green beams of light. When it got close, it would slash their face with steel claws, leaving deep scratches that burnt and bled. As the panic continued, the theories began. Some said it was an angry spirit or an elemental creature. Pakistans intelligence agency even chipped in to suggest it was a chemically engineered insect. Whatever it was, people were so scared they held special ceremonies at their local temples to ward away The Face Scratcher - some believe it may return again.

9. Nale Ba

In the 90s, there were reports of a witch visiting houses in Bangalore India. She would come at night, knocking on the door and calling out to the person inside. Whats creepy is she was said use the voice of one of their relatives, especially their mothers. If they opened their door, theyd be dead within 24 hours. As panic spread, rumours of a solution did too. Some said to write -Nale Ba- on the door. That means -come tomorrow- so the witch would see the sign and return the next day. For many years after, it this became a tradition - a way of warding off evil spirits. Some say that Nale Ba has been forgotten by the younger generation, who have now put themselves at risk of the witch returning again.

8. The Wolves of Pavagada

In 1983, several girls younger than 5 went missing at night in the village of Pavagada. They were taken right under their parents noses but nobody saw who or what did it. On one occasion, villagers found a pool of blood and the clothes of the missing child. The footprints of an animal were visible and the police dogs tracked the sent back to a cave, its entrance blocked by a wall of bricks. The police claimed that man eating wolves were on the prowl. Others were confused though, why would all the targets be girls - all of them the only daughters of their parents. Why were they always taken from their sleeping parents and why were there no drag parks on the ground? One father even reported the wolf threw stones at him. This led some locals to believe the children were actually taken by a cult of black magic practitioners who were using them as human sacrifices to the Goddess Kali. To this day, the case remains a mystery.

7. The Milk Miracle

20 years ago a rumour began spreading around India that Ganesh idols everywhere were drinking milk. When people held a spoon or bowl of milk to the lips of the idols, the milk would slowly get depleted. In just a few hours, news had spread beyond India and Hundi temples in the UK, Canada and the US were reporting the same phenomenon. Hindu organisations announced that a miracle was happening. Some scientists have claimed it was caused by a mix of surface tension, the capillary effect and confirmation bias.

6. Jhalak Dikhlaja

Thats the name of a song by a popular India musician back in 2006. It dominated the music charts for weeks but among all the hype, there were some darker stories attached to it. Some people said the song was attracting the dead. In the small village of Bhalej, locals claimed that one of the lyrics was acting as a call for ghosts. They said people were becoming possessed by evil spirits after hearing the song and were going to the local priest to be cured. It was also claimed that listening to the song in the local graveyard was practically inviting possession. In the end, fear of the song grew so much that the village actually banned the song - nobody was allowed to play it. Presumably the possessions stopped - what do you guys think of that? Can a song on the radio be cursed?

5. Monkey Man

In 2001 people in Delhi claimed that an ape-like monster was roaming the streets at night. It was said to be attacking people. Description of the Monkey Man differed but it was about four ft tall, covered in thick black hair, with a metal helmet, metal claws, glowing red eyes and 3 buttons on its chest. Many people reported being scratched and some even said 2 or 3 people died when leaping from the tops of buildings or stairwells in a panic. Its been years since the event but some people still claim the monkey man is out there and could attack another day.

4. Kuldhara

Established in the 13th century, this used to be a prosperous Indian village for hundreds of years until the early 19th century when everyone disappeared. Years later, some historians said this was due to a lack of water or heavy taxes on the people - but the legend is much darker. People say that the leader of the area was attracted to a beautiful girl from the village. He sent his guards to force the villagers to hand over the girl. The villagers asked the guards to return the next morning and while they were gone, they abandoned the whole village. The village chief then cursed the abandoned village for eternity, meaning anyone who lives there will die. Those who have dared to stay overnight have reported supernatural happenings such as shadows in the night, footprints and mysterious noises.

3. Mande Burung

For many people, this is the Indian equivalent of the North American bigfoot. The Mande Burung is an ape like creature said to inhabit the subtropical forests in Northeast India. Its been described as a large, hairy bipedal hominid. The locals call him the -Man of The Jungle- and say theyve seen it for generations. More often though - they hear it - its strange calls echoing out across the rice paddies. Some say it stands 10ft tall and weighs over 600 pounds. In 2008, a gro7up of yeti hunters gave two hairs they found to a renowned British primatologist. After examining them, Ian Redmond said they most closely resembled human, chimp, gorilla or other so called -yeti hair- samples … but with or without science to back it up, the legend lives on.

2. The White Lady of Sanjay Van

In the forest of south delhi, people have reported seeing a spectral woman in a white saree. She is said to walk among the banyan trees before disappearing. Some reports say theyve seen her hanging from the trees and that this is what ended her life. One local said -she comes alive at night, when those leaves start glowing. There are many such lovely spirits here- … personally, I wouldnt use the term lovely to describe that. Shes also said to wave at you and then disappear. Thats a definite nope from me.

1. The Onion Witch

In 2005, reports of a witch visiting homes in Delhi was said to be linked to a number of deaths in the Indian capital. According to the rumours, a witch in the guise of a hungry woman rang peoples doorbell and asked for an onion. If shes given the onion, she cuts it in half and blood squirts out. The onion donor then dies instantly, a moment after realising what has happened. Some say it wasnt just 1 but rather 3 witches. Locals began applying palm prints of turmeric and henna on doors to ward off the witches and some still fear their return.

Top 10 Scary Russian Urban Legends

Russia. The biggest country on Earth. With such a big place, theres bound to be some scary stories that have emerged over the years - these are some of the best. They span across hundreds of years, Russians know them often fear them and they very rarely end well. Would you like to hear them? And this is the Top 10 Scary Russian Urban Legends.

10. The Russian Sleep Experiment

Some of you guys may have heard of this before - it became a very popular creepypasta a few years ago and for good reason. According to legend, Russian scientists in the 1940s took 5 prison inmates and locked them in an airtight chamber with a special gas inside that made them unable to sleep. They wanted to study the effects of sleep deprivation over 30 days. On day 5 - the inmates stopped talking to each other. By day 9, some of them were screaming, begging to get out. One of the others tore apart the books they were given, smeared them with their own feces and then covered the one way mirror with it which the scientists were using to observe them. The screaming stopped. By day 15, they announced over the intercom that they were coming in - a voice replied -We no longer want to be freed- … they opened up the chamber to find one of the inmates had been torn to pieces by the others.

They had also mutilated themselves almost to the point of death. The team tried to surgically reverse the damage on their brain but they resisted and couldnt be sedated - they just laughed and laughed. They demanded to be let back into the chamber which the head scientist agreed to. Appalled at what he was seeing, one of the scientists shot the head scientist and the remaining subjects. Before killing the last one he asked -What ARE you?- … the prisoner responded -Have you forgotten so easily? We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread- … the scientist fired the gun and killed him.

9. The Legend of Brosnya

The Brosnya is said to be an ancient, mythological beast that lives within the waterways of the Andreapol District. Perhaps the closest comparison for a western audience would be the Loch Ness Monster. The Brosnya lurks below the surface there, many have heard of it - but few have seen it. They describe it as a prehistoric creature with a dragons head and long thin tail. There have been accounts of the beast going back well over a thousand years. One notable example involves a Mongol army in the 8th century that fled the area after the Brosnya attacked them - eating their soldiers and horses. Some even say its related to the Loch Ness Monster - wouldnt that be an interesting family reunion.

8. Ivan Vassili

Thats the name of a ship not a person. It was built in St Petersburg in 1897. Everything was fine for about 25 years and then, in 1903, something changed. The crew were in the Indian ocean when they felt a strange presence - almost as if an invisible entity was watching them - there was a chill in the air. One night, they saw an apparition - a human figure that stolled across the deck - its features too blurry to make out - it then disappeared behind a lifeboat. A few nights later, when the ship was docked in China, a crew member screamed out into the night - sending everyone into a crazy panic - they lost their minds and went berserk - beating each other and themselves.

It only ended when one of the crew members threw himself overboard and died. A few days later, it happened again, the crew became possessed with fighting rage and only ended with another crew members death by drowning. The crew abandoned ship at port - the new crew set sail but the same thing happened to them - 4 people died including the captain, all of them threw themselves overboard. Eventually the the crew burned the ship down, cheering at the sight as the left in smaller boats. What do you guys think of that? Can ships be so haunted they drive people to suicide?

7. The Well To Hell

This one comes from Siberia - a part of Russia thats perhaps one of the most inhospitable places on Earth. Youll rarely find people here - which is why a lot of stories have sprouted up around it. According to legend, a scientific team were drilling a hole to study samples in the Siberian permafrost. Suddenly, the drill started malfunctioning and letting off intense heat - then they heard faint noises coming from within. They scrambled to get a microphone and began feeding it down the hole so they could hear better. They realised the noises were actually human voices - coming from deep in the ground - and they were screaming out in pain. The terrified team packed up and left - convinced they had found a well to hell.

6. The Black Volga

This one comes from the height of the cold war during the 1960s and 70s. During that time, many Russians talked of a Black Volga - an expensive car usually driven by those high up in the Soviet Government. They said that this particular car would appear out of nowhere, its side mirrors were actually horns and it would steal children from the side of the road - never to be see again. Whats more, some say the car was driven by the Devil himself. For me though - the scariest part of the story is yet to come. It was said that those who doubted the stories authenticity would be dead within 24 hours. Of course, this only made the story spread even faster - do you dare doubt its authenticity? Actually you probably do.

5. Snake Lubac

Some Russians believe that occasionally, a shooting star falling to Earth may actually be a Snake-Lubac, a demonic figure that resembles a giant snake. Its often called -the fiery serpent- due to its fiery descent to Earth in a huge ball of fire. After it lands and the dust settles, the Snake-Lubac takes on human form. To be more specific, it takes on the form of a lost love that died to whomever it appears in front of. It chooses people who are desperate to see their partner one last time. The Snake Lubac then tricks the person into believing they never died - once the person is under its spell, it slowly convinces them to convince suicide - a fate which many say is unavoidable.

4. Chernobyl Black Bird

Im sure many of you guys have heard about Chernobyl - the nuclear power plant meltdown that happened in 1986, leaving a large part of the Soviet Union uninhabitable because of radiation. According to some of the locals who lived nearby - there were signs of the disaster coming. Some of them experienced nightmares, strange phone calls and encounters with a huge winged monster they called the Blackbird of Chernobyl. Apparently it looked like a twisted hybrid of bird and human with huge wings and big red eyes. Some even say they saw it over the reactors during the meltdown. Is it just some stupid story? Does this creature warn people of impending doom or perhaps even cause it?

3. UVB-76

Also known as -The Buzzer-, this is the nickname given to a shortwave radio station that broadcasts a short, monotonous buzzing noise all day, every day and has been doing t since 1973 - 45 years ago. Nobody knows why or where this creepy station is. Sometimes the buzzer signal is interrupted by a Russian voice that reads out a string of random phrases and numbers. The message usually starts with -UVB76- … when the message stops, the buzzing begins again - sometimes for years. Theories have ranged from military communication to a way to announce a nuclear war has begun.

2. The Collector

In old Russian folk lore, the collector is a strange, dark figure who kidnaps people, kills them and then puts their mummified bodies on display for his own pleasure. If that sounds too disturbing to be true then think again. Russians were shocked in 2011 to learn that there was a real life version of The Collector that had been arrested. He used to dig up corpses and dress their remains in womens clothing to display around his home. In total, he did this with an astounding 29 corpses. If theres anything worse than an urban legend - its a real one coming to life.

1. Baba Yaga

According to Russian folklore, she is a supernatural being who appears as a deformed old woman. She flies around in a giant mortar while using the pestle to steer. Deep in the Russian woods, she lives in a log cabin that moves around on a pair of chicken legs. The keyhole to her door is filled with sharp teeth, the fence outside is made with human human bones topped with skulls - she always leaves one empty for you. She is said to kidnap children and threaten to eat them - an emphasis is placed on the need for proper preparation of purity of spirit when meeting, as well as politeness. This creepy being is said to have good qualities at times, but for the many Russians who grew up hearing about her - Baba Yaga is always something to avoid - especially in the woods at night.

10. The Silver Train
This is a true ghost train story. Locals called it the Silverpilen. In Swedens capital of Stockholm, legend says that passengers waiting on the platform may see a silver train slowly pull up. You must not get on. The train is heading to an abandoned station in the middle of the woods - its passengers are the souls of the dead. People who get on will never return. Some even believe The Silver Train takes people to an underground station with  no exit - it never returns to pick them up.

9. The Palace of Scheffler
Located in the capital of Stockholm, ghosts have been reported in this palace for well over 200 years. Some of the stories involve people seeing mirrors and windows shattering for no reason as well as music and songs floating down the corridor with no source in sight. One notable story involves a man called Jacob Von Balthasar Knigge - trying saying that in a hurry. He was a former owner of the palace who was allegedly a worshiper of Satan. He disseapeared one night and witnesses said he was last seen entering a black carriage being pulled by a coachman with horns and a tail. Had he sold his soul to the devil? Some people certainly think so. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the creepy goings on here. The palace is now owned by Stockholm University who use it for storage - thats probably for the best.

8. The Borgvattnet Vicarage
Borgvattnett is a small village with just 50 residents there - but apparently a lot of ghosts. Its actually said to have the highest number of ghosts per people anywhere in the country. Perhaps the most haunted spot is the old vicarage. Built in 1876, it seemed like a normal building for some 50 years. Then, locals began reporting creepy goings on. Ghosts that are not just scary, theyre also violent. Some of the ghosts have reportedly knocked people out of chairs, moved furniture around while people are sleeping or even one case of a ghost throwing babies out of a window. If that sounds like your idea of fun, you can actually book a room there for the night and breakfast is included - if you make it to morning.

7. Toftaholm Herrgard
Some Swedish people proudly claim this place as the most haunted hotel in the world. Located along the edge of Lake Vikostern, the hotel is picturesque but comes with a dark story attached to it. One night, a young man killed himself in one of the hotel rooms after he was forbidden to marry the daughter of the landowner. Hed had a secret love affair with her for months but her father, a rich baron, refused to give their blessing because he was a poor commoner. Instead, he married her off to an older man not too dissimilar from the baron himself. Heartbroken, he hanged himself from the rafters of what is now room 324. While most visitors avoid that room, that hasnt stopped them seeing the ghost of the heartbroken man. He is said to wander through the hotel at night, shutting windows and crying out into the night.

6. Gamla Stan
In 1520, the Danish King Kristian the 2nd invaded Sweden. 92 members of the Swedish royal family refused to obey the invader so, Kristian sentenced them to death. All 92 of them were either beheaded or hanged in the main square of the Old Town of Stockholm known as Gamla Stan. Some say their blood flowed across the cobblestones for months. In the red building nearby, 92 white stones came to represent the 92 swedish nobles. Now, locals believe that if a stone is removed, the ghost of one of the dead nobels will rise up and haunt the streets of Stockholm.

5. The Skogsra
In ancient Swedish folklore, the Skogsra are forest spirits. From the front they look like a beautiful woman but from the back they resemble a tree trunk. There stories of men who were entranced by these spirits without ever seeing their other form from the back. The Skogsra wear the men down over days and weeks, draining them until they were helpless - playing on their temptations, fears and fantasies. If they manage to outsmart the spirit, the men will see their true form from behind and the Skogsra will disappear forever. If they do not, they are carried off into the woods at their weakest, never to be seen again.

4. The Mylingar
These are said to be the undead corpses or ghosts of infants murdered by their mothers. They haunt the places where they were buried with cries that pierce the night air. Why do they cry? Well, they want you to give them a name - they were often said to be killed before receiving a name, now thats all they want. Theyll ask you to carry them to hallowed ground to be buried - they grow in size as you get closer. There have been stories of these undead babies asking people for other tasks on roads at night - if they don't perform the tasks, the person will often return home to find a member of their family has been killed - often in the same theme as the original request. I would go into some of the details I saw but they really are gruesome. All you need to know is that theyre Zombie Babies - not two words you want to hear together.

3. The Nyk
Also known as the Nokken or Nykkjen, this is a mysterious water creature that always crops up in Scandanavian folklore. In Swedish tradition, the Nyk lives in freshwater, lakes and deep ponds. They are shapeshifters and will often transform into a handsome young man. They then trick women into jumping in the water before drowning them. There are also other versions of the legend that involve him changing into a white horse to let children ride on his back before jumping into his bond to drown them. Some believe the only way to save yourself is to throw metal in the water, like a needle or iron cross.

2. Stockholms Royal Palace
As you might expect from a palace, this place is huge. Many of its 1400 rooms come with some of Swedens most famous ghost stories. Among them is the White Lady, her name in life was Vita Frun. She is said to appear anytime a member of Swedens royal family dies. King Oscar once wrote that she is tall, wears a long white dress with a white veil and dark cloves. She wanders the rooms and halways clutching a ring of keys which jangle and echo in the night. In 1971, Princess Eugenie saw The White Lady 3 days before the death of Queen Louise. Over half a century before, she was also said to appear as Princess Margaret lay dying. Despite not actually being dead yet, a guard saw The White Lady standing on the roof - keys in hand. Two hours later, the princess was dead.

1. Svaneholm Castle
This is another castle in southern Sweden known for its high concentration of ghosts. Perhaps the most famous is King Frederik the 2nd who his said to wander the halls at night searching for his long lost love who he never married. Then there are the 3 ladies. In previous Urban Legend videos, you may have heard me talk about a castle or house having the White Lady, the Black Lady or the Grey Lady ghost. Things like that. Well, how about all 3. Thats right, visitors to Svaneholm castle have reported 3 seperate ghost ladies - some even say they compete for each others territory. Another regular on the scene is said to be the Grey Monk who was murdered in the castle in the 1500s and now occasionally helps staff carry heavy items up the stairs from the cellars.

3. Anthony Jacques Broussard
Milpitas is a sleepy city just north of San Jose, California. In the early 1980s the city had a population of about 38,000 people. According to the newspaper San Francisco Weekly, it was best known for being the home of a large landfill. On November 3rd, 1981 14-year-old Marcy Conrad skipped her afternoon classes at Milpitas High School, and she went to the home of Anthony Jacques Broussard. Broussard was 16 years old and he attended the same high school. Broussard was a large young man. He stood 6 foot 4 and he weighed 240 pounds. Broussard was apparently on LSD that afternoon. He said Marcy was sitting on his lap, and then she said something he didn't like. Apparently, she teased him about his dead mother. When Broussard was 7 he found his mother dead from natural causes in the shower. After her death, Broussard apparently started acting strangely.

After she made the crack about his dead mother, he got angry and strangled her to death. Afterward, he violated the ninth grader's body. Once he was finished with her, he placed her body in the back of his pickup truck and he drove to the outskirts of the city. He dumped her half-naked body in a wooded ravine and drove off. When Marcy didn't come home that night her mother reported her missing. Just over 24 hours later Broussard's friends were hanging out at a local arcade. When Broussard got there he bragged to his friends that he had killed Marcy. They didn't believe him. To prove it, he took a group of them out to the ravine. One of the young people who saw the body was an ex-boyfriend of Marcy's and the ex-boyfriend's eight-year-old brother.

At first they thought the body was a mannequin, so someone poked the body with a stick. When they realized the body was real, they weren't sure if she was dead. One boy apparently dropped a rock on her head to test for signs of life. That proved she was dead. Amazingly, none of the kids told the police or their parents about the murder. The next day Broussard attended school, and he bragged to more people about the murder. He again took groups of people out to see the body. One of the people who went to see the body was 16-year-old Kirk Rasmussen.

Rasmussen asked Roussard why he killed Marcy, but apparently Roussard just laughed. Before leaving the ravine, Rasmussen put leaves over the body to try and conceal it. In total, Roussard took at least 12 fellow-teenagers and an eight-year-old to see Marcy's body. It wasn't until the afternoon of November 5th, about 48 hours after Marcy was killed that one of the kids who saw the body finally went to the police. He was part of the first group of kids to see the body. He said that as he had dinner that night with his family and sat in classes the next day he kept thinking about seeing her body.

Around the same time, another person who saw the body on the second day called the police. The police went to the ravine and they found the body. As the police were blocking off the crime scene, more teenagers drove up to look at the body. When they saw the police, they turned around and drove away. Broussard was arrested and the teenagers who saw the body were brought in for questioning. They were asked why they didn't go to the police. Some said that they didn't want Broussard to get in trouble. A few said that they didn't want the police to think that they were involved in the murder, so they chose to keep quiet.

After Broussard was arrested, two sisters, who were 13 and 14, went to the police and said that Broussard had sexually assaulted them. In exchange for dropping the two sexual assault charges involving the sisters Broussard agree to a prison term of 25 years to life. Rasmussen was given three years for trying to hide the body. He was the only other teenager convicted in connection with the murder. The murder, and the fact that the other kids knew about it yet no one reported it for nearly 24 hours shocked people across the country. Violent movies and heavy-metal music were blamed for the murder and the callousness of not just the killer, but the other teenagers who said and did nothing after seeing the dead body of their fellow schoolmate. Broussard has been eligible for parole since October 1997, but he has never been granted it. At the time of this video he is 53 years old and he is incarcerated at the correctional training facility in Soledad, California.

2. Joshua Phillips
November 3rd, 1999 was a nice, cool day in Jacksonville, Florida. Around 5 o'clock that afternoon eight-year-old Maddie Clifton told her mom Sheila that she was going out to play. They lived on a quiet street and Maddie was a good kid, so Sheila wasn't too worried about her youngest daughter going out to play. At 6:30 Sheila called out for Maddie and her sister to come home for dinner. Only Maddie's sister returned home. She said she had not been playing with Maddie, and she didn't know where she was. Sheila and her husband Steve decided to call 911 right away and the police arrived shortly afterward.

Search crews were made up from people in the neighborhood, and they looked for the little girl. Over the next 7 days hundreds of people searched for Maddie, but no trace of her could be found. It was like she walked through a hole in reality and vanished. Seven days after Maddie vanished, a neighbor of the Clifton's, Missy Phillips, was cleaning up around her home. She lived across the road from the Cliftons with her husband, Steve, and her 14-year-old son, Joshua. Missy, Steve and Joshua all helped look for Maddie on the first night that she went missing.

By most accounts Joshua Phillips was just a typical teenager. He had a C-average in school, he liked baseball and he liked hanging out with his friends. While Missy was cleaning up, she noticed some liquid near the base of her son's water bed. She thought that the bed might be leaking, which would explain the horrible smell that has started emanating from his room. She lifted the mattress and saw a small, discolored human foot. She dropped the mattress, walked outside and found a police officer. She led the officer into her son's bedroom. Hidden in the base of the water bed was the body of Maddie Clifton.

One of the boards of the bed space was broken, and it was held in place with tape. Maddie's body was stuffed into the base, and then the board was put back in place to conceal the body. For six nights Joshua slept in the bed while Maddie's body decomposed below him. Maddie was naked from the waist down, but there were no signs of sexual assault. Her pants and her underwear were hidden under the bed with her. Joshua also made attempts to cover up the smell. Beside his bed there were air fresheners and incense. They were sitting beside one of Maddie's missing persons posters.

The police had searched the Phillips house three times before and they even noticed an unusual smell. Missy said that the smell was probably just from their pet birds. Joshua was at school when the body was discovered. He was pulled out of class and brought to the police station. With his dad by his side Joshua confessed. He said that on the day that Maddie was killed, she came over to his house and wanted to play baseball. Joshua told her that he couldn't play, but she kept pestering him. He relented and they went into his backyard to play baseball. Joshua said that he was batting and he hit a ball that struck Maddie in the head. It caused her to start bleeding and she started screaming.

Joshua said he panicked and he dragged Maddie from his backyard into his bedroom. While he was dragging her, she lost the bottom half of her clothes. In the bedroom, Maddie kept screaming and he began to panic more. Joshua's father had a strict rule that Joshua wasn't allowed to have other children in the house when no adults were there and his father would be home at any time. Joshua said to get Maddie to stop screaming he hit her in the head with his baseball bat three times. He then stabbed her three times in the throat. He stuffed her body under his bed and left her there. His father arrived home not long afterward.

After his father was in the house, Joshua heard Maddie moaning, and he realized that she wasn't dead. So we went back into his bedroom, pulled out her body stabbed her a few more times in the chest, and then pushed her back under the bed. The police found both the baseball bat and the knife hidden in his room. Several months later Joshua went to trial. He was charged with first-degree murder, and even though he was only 14, he was charged  as an adult. Joshua's defense was that Maddie's murder was a bad decision he made because he was panicking or at the very least it was not premeditated.

Therefore he should be guilty of manslaughter or second-degree murder, but not first-degree murder. The prosecutor said that Joshua was lying about what happened, and he said that Joshua was a monster. The prosecutor introduced the autopsy report as evidence. The report said the Maddie had been struck three times in the head with the baseball bat, and she had been stabbed ten times. Three times in the throat and then seven times in the chest. The chest wounds happened after his father arrived home. Maddie was still alive after the second round of stabbings, and she died after she was stuffed back under the bed.

The prosecutor pointed out that there was no physical evidence backing up Joshua's version of events. He said that they were playing baseball, and Maddie was hit in the head with the baseball, resulting in a cut on her head. Joshua said he then dragged Maddie from the backyard into his house and into his bedroom. The first problem is that Maddie didn't have a cut on her head. Also, there was no blood found anywhere else other than Joshua's bedroom. Finally, neither Maddie's body nor her clothes had any dirt or twigs on them. The prosecutor introduced evidence that before Maddie was killed, Joshua was at home looking at violent pornography.

After he killed her, he went back to looking at porn. However, Maddie had not been sexually assaulted. Something odd that was found in Joshua's room was a photograph of Maddie's 11-year -old sister. The Clifton's home had been broken into before the murder and it is suspected that Joshua was the one who broke in and he stole the photograph then. Joshua's defense attorney rested without calling a single witness. He just told the jury that the death was the result of the fourteen-year-old panicking. The jury deliberated for just over two hours before finding Joshua guilty. At the age of 14 he was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole. The Cliftons thought that the sentence was fair.

However, other people thought that locking up and throwing away the key on a 14-year-old was cruel and unusual punishment, even if his crime was horrifying. In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled that giving juveniles life without parole was unconstitutional. In the summer of 2017, Joshua was given a new sentencing hearing. The Clifton's feelings towards Joshua have changed slightly over the years. Sheila doesn't hate Joshua anymore, but she still doesn't think that he should ever leave prison. She says that Maddie doesn't get a second chance at life, so why should he?

Maddie's father and sister both agree with Sheila and think that Joshua should pay for what he did by living out the rest of his life in prison. The judge agreed with the Cliftons, and Joshua was re-sentenced to life in prison. Joshua has been in maximum security since the age of 15, and he has been a model prisoner. He graduated from high school and he got a college diploma as a legal assistant/paralegal. He helps tutor inmates who are trying to get their GED. He says that he is not a monster, he was just a kid who did something horrible. He hopes that one day he'll be released from prison.

1. Shinichiro Azuma
In February, 1997 the peaceful city of Kobe, Japan was rocked by a series of violent attacks on young girls. In two separate attacks, two pre-teen girls were struck in the head with a hammer. They luckily both survived. Just a month later, on March 16th, 1997 there was another pair of attacks. Ten-year-old Ayaka Yamashita was struck several times in the head with a hammer, and she was also stabbed in the head as well. She died as a result of her wounds. An hour after she was attacked, a second girl was attacked. She was stabbed and left to bleed to death. Luckily, she survived.

Murders, especially child murders, are very uncommon in Japan and everyone in Kobe was on edge. Then, a month later, the citizens of Kobe were shocked by another horrible crime. On May 21st, 11-year-old Jun Hase went missing. Jun was a boy, and all the other victims were girls and none of them went missing. The people of Kobe were wondering if a second person was preying on their children, or was the killer changing their modus operandi? Three days after Jun went missing, a custodian at a junior high school in Kobe made a horrifying discovery. Near the back gate of the school was the head of a young boy in a plastic bag.

The police were called, and they were also disturbed by what the custodian found. They were able to identify the head. It belonged to Jun. The head had been removed with a hacksaw, and the body wasn't at the school. The boy's eyes had been gouged out, and the sides of his mouth had been cut to make it look like a grotesque smile. Inside the boy's mouth there was a note written in red ink. In part, the note reads:

This is the beginning of the game. You police guys stop me if you can. I just really want to see people die. It is a thrill for me to commit murder. A bloody judgement is needed for my years of great bitterness. He signed off with the name Sakakibara Seito, which uses the Japanese symbols for the words 'sake', 'devil', 'rose' and 'sacred master'.

On June 6th, about two weeks after the murder, a local newspaper in Kobe received a letter written in red ink and signed off as Sakakibara Seito. The killer also added a designation that was written in English. He called himself 'The School Killer'. The police compared the handwriting to the note that was found in Jun's mouth, and they concluded that the letter was from the killer. In his letter, the killer discusses his hatred of the Japanese school system. He also wrote, "It's only when I kill that I'm liberated from the constant hatred that I suffer and I am able to attain peace.

It is only when I give pain to people that I can ease my own pain." He also wrote that he was mad because the newspaper had gotten his name wrong. They called him Onibara, which means 'devil's rose'. He then wrote, "From now, on if you misread my name or spoil my mood I will kill three vegetables a week. If you think I can only kill children, you are greatly mistaken." The newspaper decided to publish the letter, and it terrified the citizens of Kobe.

Children weren't allowed out of their parents sight and even adults were nervous that they may be the next person to be attacked. The police relentlessly pursued any lead that came their way. Near the end of June they got a tip from two boys who had been beaten up by a 14-year-old classmate. They said that the boy who beat them up, who was only identified as 'Boy A', may be responsible for the murders. 'Boy A' was the oldest of three children, and he was from a middle-class family. The boys thought that 'Boy A' may be responsible because he had killed several animals in very sadistic ways.

The police got a warrant and searched 'Boy A's bedroom. In his bedroom they found a journal detailing the murders of Jun and Ayaka. The diary entry for the day that Ayaka was murdered reads: "I carried out sacred experiments today to confirm how fragile human beings are. I think I hit her a few times, but I was too excited to remember." In the diary entry for the day after that, he writes that he learned that both girls he attacked didn't die. He was surprised that killing someone wasn't as easy as he thought.

The police found the hacksaw in a nearby pond and arrested 'Boy A'. At the police station he confessed to the two murders and the three other attacks. He said that when he killed Jun, he strangled him in the mountains and removed his head. He brought the head home first and then dropped it off at the school. 'Boy A' was convicted of the two murders, and in October 1997 he was sent to a juvenile reformatory. He was paroled in March 2004 at the age of 21, and his parole ended later that year, leaving him free with a clean record after serving just seven years.

In June 2015, 'Boy A', who was then 32 years old, found himself in the national headlines in Japan yet again. He wrote a book about his crimes and his time in the reformatory, and it was published by a major Japanese publisher. The book, is titled 'Zekka', which loosely translates to 'desperate song'. The families of the victims were appalled by the publication of the book. Before the publication of the book, the killer wrote the families an apology letter every year. When the book was published, he sent them a copy of the book along with another letter of apology.

The families were upset because they were not consulted before the book was published and they didn't think that the killer should profit off his crimes. The book was an instant bestseller and the initial run of a hundred thousand copies were all sold. The writer supposedly made fifteen million yen, which is about $US150,000 on the first printing of the book. In the epilogue of the book, the killer says that he is remorseful for his actions, but the content of the book made several people question if he really was sorry for what he did.

People suspected that he got enjoyment from reliving the attacks while writing the book. The book also contains shocking and lurid details about the murders that had not been made public. The most shocking claim in the book is that when he took Jun's head home, he locked himself in his bedroom and did something that was "far more heinous than murder". Months after the book was published Japan Today reported that 'Boy A' had launched a vanity website. The website was called 'The Unbearable Transparency of Being', and it featured several odd pieces of artwork.

They were pictures of a man, (presumably 'Boy A') and he was shirtless and wearing a mask. In one picture he is nude and it looks like a xenomorph from the Alien franchise is coming out his crotch. There is another photograph that features his torso on the body of a scorpion. Not long after the website was launched, a Japanese tabloid decided to break Japanese privacy laws and they revealed the identity of 'Boy A'. His name is Shinichiro Azuma. He currently lives in the Saitama Prefecture, which is north of Tokyo, where he works as a welder on construction sites.

Top 10 Scary Slenderman Urban Legends

10. Dead Rats on the Wall
This story is messed up. This whole saga was posted on Reddit No Sleep a few years ago by Redditor Moonbay. She said she went away with her husband to her Grandpa’s cabin and on their way up to the country, he husband cracked his classic Slenderman joke. When they got to the cabin, the girl saw scratch marks on one of the sides of the cabin, like someone had dragged a rake across the side of the house. She made a note to tell her grandpa but got on with her trip. That night, she heard something outside, like scratching. Her husband joked it was Slenderman again, but then said seriously that it must be rats and in the morning he would set up some pest control. IT turns it was indeed rats…..rats nailed to the cabin wall! The husband is a bit concerned but thinks it was kids playing a prank. The next night, there is scratching noises and heavy breathing and growling coming from outside the cabin and the pair both agree to leave at first light. In the morning, they step out to a whole menagerie of dead woodland animals strewn around the property and Goodbye, thanks for playing written in blood on the wall. Was it Slenderman urban legend, or some other woodland killer?!

9. The Garage
Incrediblefalk 1 posted about an encounter with Slenderman in their garage in Texas, USA. They admitted that they had read a lot of the No Sleep sub reddit and played the Slenderman video game. One night, they said they walked out to their garage to grab a drink after school and they noticed it smelled a lot like Gasoline. They grabbed an Arizona Watermelon cocktail and as they were walking out of the garage, they heard a growling noise. They looked over their shoulder and that is when they saw it. The Redditor says that what they saw looked a lot like the descriptions of slenderman, just with no suit. They said it was like looking at a warped naked mannequin with abnormally long arms. They also said that the mans hands were black with an inky shine to them. When he want back to the garage the next day, with caution, he took these pictures of the garage and big handprints he found.

8. Xbox
Something weird happened with an X Box 5 years ago in Ohio. Posted to reddit about his experience in a new house. MyBudDaVinci wrote that their new home had been the location for a murder and a previous reported Slenderman Sighting. When this guys parents were out one evening, he was playing videogames online with some friends. Everything is fine until he gets a text and puts his controller down, which is when his game character appeared to morph into Slenderman and stared at him through the screen. Then, he started to move through the screen and in to real life….which was when the guy woke up. He saw his clock, which said it was past 4am…and the though….woah, that was weird, he must have been asleep at his computer for two hours. He then noticed that his bedroom door and window were open. A bit freaked out, he closed them, went to check on his dog, and when he came back, he noticed the clock again….it was 2.16am, the time he last remembered playing his game.

7. Slenderman Tape
Sometimes Slenderman will come for you….and in those times, you just need to run! Run is exactly what this one redditor did when Slendy came for him. ScizorofVenus wrote that in their old hood, they saw Slenderman – tall, slender, black, no face, creepy. Sure. After seeing him a few times, he says that he moved. Good on him, Slendz is a creep. When they were at a new home, a village by a mountain, the guys wife saw something weird on the mountain will hiking. Later, the guy found a tape in a drawer that was seemingly an interview with a child called JImmy. The kid seemed scared about something. Jimmy the kid seemed to hallucinate, and the guy listening to the tape had a hallucination of his own – he dreamed Slenderman came to him with tentacles and that he hid his wife and kid in a mountain cave. He woke up to hear the kid in the tape screaming.

6. The Optic Nerve
Optic Nerve are also known as The Organisation, the Bureau and the Anti S-Walker Unit. This is the legendary group that observes and tracks Slenderman. The Optic Nerve is highly secretive but the urban legend goes that they’re based in Washington and are a government organisation; possible a collaborative outfit between the USA and Germany. The ON is said to have been watching Slenderman for years and believe that he is harvesting organs for some greater evil purpose. While the team tracks Slender man, who they call the Tall Man or S Man, they do not know how to neutralize him.

5. Slenderman in the Fog
The person from this Reddit post was convinced that slenderman was just a creepy pasta until they encountered him on a foggy night. The sun was setting and it cast a weird blueish light over the fog. The narrators dog seemed antsy and the cat seemed weird too, although the pair didn’t love each other. When they went to the bathroom, they looked in the mirror and saw something reflected – it seems that there was a long, tall figure outside, looking around. They thought it was a trick of the light, but when they went to let the cat out, they noticed that there was a crouched figure by the trees in the garden. As they strained to get a look at what it was, their neighbours came home, lighting up the fog around them with their car headlights. The figure seemed to disappear.

4. The Cannock Sightings
In 2015, slenderman rumours were as rife as ever when not one, but four people reported seeing the spooky figure in and around Cannock, in the midlands of Great Britain. Some swear the sightings were slenderman, others were convinced it was the lost soul of a ghoul, roaming the old mining town. That being said, three of the four slendy sightings were inside a house! One witness said tha they woke up to see a sphere shared shadow in their room and as they tried to get up to investigate, the woman sad– I quote As I tried to get out of bed and investigate further, the shadow began to stretch towards the ceiling. “It was at that point I found myself faced with the most disgusting and horrific creature imaginable.“It was about eight feet tall and had a white face with razor-sharp fangs.” Another household reported the tall man to have fierce red eyes and was wearing a black suit and hat. The indoor sightings are being explained by the effects of Sleep paralysis. Anther witness, who reported seeing the man outside, said that he wore a long black overcoat! What was going on in middle England?

3. The Scottish and Irish folk Legends of Fear Dubh
Fear Dubh is a Celtic legend about a dark man, the black man I believe is the most accurate translation. Fear Dubh is said to be a malevolent force that lives in the woods that wears all black. It sounds like someone we know! He is said to have long, tentacly arms which he is able to pass off as branches when he wants to be disguised. By disgusing himself as a tree, Fear Dubh is able to peep in the windows of children and tap at the glass with the branches.

2. The Dutch Takkenmann
Takkenmann means branch man in Dutch, and the legend is strikingly similar to that of Slenderman urban legends…which leads me to think about the many slenderman like stories across the world. We might not have the same name for the menace, but its eerie how many different cultures have a similar figure in their local lore. With Takkenman, or branchman, he his legs resemble thin tree trunks, and he is very tall, blending into the woodland. It is thought that Takkenmann shares some key similarities with the German legend of Lange man, long man. They’re both creepy woodland dwellers that appear to show up in the background of seemingly normal pictures.

1. Slender Sickness
Those stalked by Slenderman have been known to contract what the internet is calling Slender sickness. This sickness presents itself in coughing and sneezing fits, then leads to coughing and vomiting blood. It is also characterized by extreme exhaustion, paranoia, nausea, fever, nose bleeds and short term memory loss. Not ideal. The Slender Wikia explains this sickness as Sigma Radiation, so radiation poisoning, contracted by being too close to the slender chap. Apparently the illness gets worse, the more you spot slendy.

Top 10 Scary Saudi Arabian Urban Legends

Saudi Arabia is a desert country located in the Middle East that is known to be the birthplace of Islam. Along with its rich history and cultural background, Saudi Arabia also has their fair share of scary urban legends that have been circulating the country. So let’s dive right into this list of the top 10 scary Saudi Arabia urban legends.

10. Um-Duwais
Or otherwise known as the Myth of deadly temptation. This is a story about a beautiful, charismatic female demonic spirit who visits neighbourhoods in search of finding her next victim. She is disguised as a beautiful looking woman so men are easily drawn and attracted to her. Once she is able to entice them and lead the men to an abandoned location, she changes her form into an ugly looking demon who brutally murders her victims. She is said to have two donkey legs that she uses for speed and agility and both of her hands are made out of sickles which she uses to slice open her prey. And she also has the eyes of a cat so that she is able to see better in different lighting conditions. The moral of this urban legend is for men to not be easily attracted to beautiful strangers because you never know what they are capable of.

9. Qareen
The Qareen is another type of demonic creature that is very similar to a genie. They can have a master who controls them because they are in possession of the Qareen’s heart. These awful creatures are known to be excellent shapeshifters who will take on the form of a person’s deepest, darkest desire in order to seduce them. Once you fall victim to a Qareen, they will brutally kill you and the only way to kill a Qareen is to stab them in the heart but this is extremely difficult and you will probably die trying. Besides shapeshifting, they are also telepathic and extremely strong. They are naturally very evil and powerful and they know every detail about you. So that means they know all of your greatest fears, your weaknesses and your darkest secrets. So, they can easily trick you or blackmail you into doing whatever they want.

8. The haunted house in Jeddah
Saudi Arabia is known to have a lot of houses that are haunted by demonic spirits and actually, a lot of people living in this country are scared to move because they fear that their new house might be haunted. So, we guess it is safe to say that Saudi Arabia is not unfamiliar with haunted houses but this house in particular is on a whole other level. The most haunted house of Jeddah is located just one hundred meters from the sea and it has a notorious reputation. Taxi drivers don’t even dare to drive near this house and people say that if you get close enough, it acts like a magnet and you can’t escape it. According to the local legend, if you stand in front of the house during the day, you can feel your blood pressure increasing, and small shocks in your body.

7. Jinni terrorizes
According to the urban legend and folklore, Jinn are supernatural spirits that are very skilled at shapeshifting. So these evil creatures take on human or animal forms and they can even live in inanimate objects such as trees, rocks and underneath the Earth. They aren’t immortal, so they can be killed but they are free from any form of physical restraints. They love to torture and punish humans so they are said to be the ones behind many diseases and all kinds of accidents such as natural disasters or road accidents. They are known to cause a lot of destructive mischief and they love to watch humans suffer. There are different types of Jinn and depending on their classification, they have a bunch of different powers that are all harmful or damaging to humans.

6. Bent Al Kharsa
She is also referred to as the daughter of the speechless because her lips have been stitched together because she is being punished for something sinful that she did. It is believed that she likes to kidnap men and force them to marry her. She has the ability to kill without any weapons and she is even able to kill you by tickling your flesh. Apparently, she has these long fingers and she enjoys tickling her victims so that they will historically laugh until they die. Wow, this woman sounds like a complete nightmare. This sounds like one of the worst ways to die.

5. The Nasnas
This horrific looking creature is a hybrid between a human being and a demonic spirit. This unfortunate crossbreeding resulted in the Nasnas to be half a human body and a demon spirit. Yes, that means he literally looks like an evil half human. Even though the Nasnas only has one leg and arm, they are extremely agile because they use their tail to help them with balance and movement. These evil creatures would disguise themselves as decrepit old men who would try to get others to carry them over passages of water. Once the Nasnas successful enticed their victim to help them, they would change form and drown their victims in the water. These terrifying creatures are also known to easily murder a human to death by only using their one hand. And because they are missing half of their vocal cords, they aren’t able to speak but they are able to emit an ear-piercing noise that is supposed to be dreadful to hear. And depending on the volume and tone of this screeching noise, you would be able to tell what the Nasnas is feeling.

4. Ghouls
These terrifying creatures are known to feed on decomposing corpses and they can be found living in tunnels located underneath graveyards. The ghouls have been a part of Saudi Arabian folklore for a very long time. Ghouls are known to be excellent shapeshifters that prey on unsuspecting victims who are looking to cross the desert. Ghouls are very resilient and resourceful creatures who will transform into a desirable woman in order to lure these men where they would viciously kill them or mate with them. Obviously ghouls have a very bad reputation but things get even worse. They are known to be repulsive looking creatures who enjoy kidnapping people and feeding on their flesh. They are even able to absorb the traits of the humans that they eat such as memories and appearances. Apparently, the only way to banish a ghoul is to recite a line from the Quran.

3. The haunting of the Al Qasimi Palace
Every horror movie that has a possessed or haunted house looks like this one. Except unlike the movies, this house has a dark past and it rumoured to be very sinister. The palace was abandoned back in the 1980’s after the owners stayed there for only one night. They claimed that the house was full of paranormal activity and they couldn’t live there anymore. Since the palace was abandoned, curious people have wandered around the mansion, searching for ghost activity and supernatural presences. People have reported feeling impending doom, sounds of a woman crying through the halls and they have also seen children peeping out of broken stained-glass windows while crying. According to the legend, “You don’t seek the way to the palace, it will find you in time.” The legend also claims that if you visit this haunted palace on a night with a full moon, something awful will happen to you.

He often uses these chains to attack his prey and it is also believed that he is one of the most powerful demonic spirits in Saudi Arabia. He is most active at night and it is said that if you hear him walking with his chains, you are supposed to get out of that area immediately or you have a high probability of dying. The Abu Al Salasel craves human flesh and he won’t stop hunting humans until his craving his satisfied. This urban legend says that he is completely fearless and he might even follow you into your home.

1. A real witch
Witches and ghouls are a very popular urban legend in Saudi Arabia and even everywhere else in the world. Witches are women who are thought to have evil magical powers that have the potential to harm or kill people. So, what if I told you that there was a real police encounter with a witch? Do you believe in witches? You might after you see this clip. Is this real life right now? The two Saudi police officers came across this creepy looking witch in a hostile military area where no civilians were able to go to. And based on their reactions, they seem legitimately terrified.

Top 10 Scary Chicago Urban Legends

10. Haunted Oprah Show
The Ophrah Winfrey Show is famously filmed in the Windy City near the spot of one of the worst boating disasters of all time, which resulted in the largest loss of life from an incident in the great lakes. In 1915, passengers were boarding the SS Eastland which was docked in the Chicago River. Workers from Hawthorne Woks were off to a picnic. A full boat caused weight distribution issues and the boat listed to one side, rolling. This trapped some passengers below decks, others were crushed by heavy furniture. 844 passengers and four crew died in the disaster. The dead were taken to a nearby armory building, which served as an impromptu morgue. Fast forward decades and this building is now a warehouse and film studio where the Oprah Winfrey show is filmed. Many members of the show's crew gave reported seeing and hearing strange things in the building. There have been reports of screams from the doomed passengers, and even some apparition sightings. The most frequently spotted ghost is the Grey Lady, who is often seen stalking the halls.

9. 12,000 Corpses Under Lincoln Park
Between 1843 and 1865 there were four different cemeteries in the spot where the public park is now. The city was eyeing up the spot for a park, and after the Fire of 1871, they had the perfect excuse to start again. While some bodies were exhumed and moved, around 12,000 remain under the park. When the zoo was built in 1962, bodies were unearthed and reburied! With that many bodies, is it any surprise there have been a number of ghost sightings in the area?

8. Mrs. O Leary and the Fire That Killed 300 People
The Great Fire of Chicago was one of the most horrendous things that happened to the city. 3.3 square miles of the city burned from the 8th to the 10th of October in 1871 and left 100,000 people without homes. The popular legend blames Mrs. O’Leary…you know the song… late last night before she went to bed, Mrs. O’Leary hung a lantern in her shed….then her cow kicked it over…winked at her and said they’ll be a hot time in the old town tonight? You know the score. Except poor old Mrs. Leary never did it – she was a poor Irish Catholic Immigrant and was made a scapegoat because Protestant Founders of the US were distrustful of Catholics, and there was a lot of Irish racism around at the time. Reported Michael Ahern of the Chicago Tribune was to blame for fanning the flames on Mrs. O'Leary's reputation… but it was already destroyed. She was pardoned by Chicago’s city council in 1997, as was the cow…but, of course, this was far too late for Mrs. O. None the less, the legend lives on.

7. Haunted Water Tower
In the fire Legend has it that one brave citizen pumped water from the iconic Chicago Water Tower to try and help quell the flames. The water tower on Streeterville survived the blaze as a result of the man's actions, proving himself as a hero as he manned the pumps instead of fleeing for his life. Then, as the metal structure got hotter and hotter and the flames rose around him, the man knew he was going to die. Rather than die slowly and painfully, the legend has it that he hung himself from the structure. Legend has it that sometimes people still see his body hanging through a towers upstairs window. This has been confirmed by a police officer who also saw the awful sight.

6 - The Devil of Hull House
This story spawned the popular movie. The Hull House was a focal spot in the Chicago community. Jane Addams’ took the building over in the late 1800s and ran it as a women’s shelter. Jane reportedly took in a woman who was heavily pregnant and whose husband had abandoned her. It seems the midwives in Jane’s Employ would not go near the child after it was born because of its monstrous appearance. The legend states that the baby was born a monster because his father yelled to heavens in the frustration of being given only daughters. He yelled, “I would rather have the devil in this house than another daughter.”

Jane kept that baby a secret, but one day, three Italian women burst into the house and demanded to see the devil baby. They said they knew a baby had been born with pointed ears, a tail, and cloven hooves. The woman caused such a fuss and would not leave until forcibly removed that locals started talking. Soon a crowd appeared at the house and people wanted to get a look at the child. The mystery was never resolved, but there have been many whispers of hauntings at the house. Some report seeing the devils face at the window of the house to this day.

5. Homey The Clown
Homey the clown is a classic Chicago urban legend and long predates the creepy clown sightings of 2016. In 1991, there was a slew of reports about a creepy clown cruising the streets trying to lure kids into a red and blue van with Ha Ha written on the side. The Clown was dressed as a TV character called Homey and was said to be offering up candy and money to children who would come with him. The police had a lot of reported sightings, mainly from children. They dismissed a report from two ten-year-old boys in Oak Park, suggesting kids had banded together to troll the police. None the less, this didn’t quell the rumors and a whole epidemic of sightings sprung up over the city. The clown, however, was never caught. A lot of kids around in the 1990s in Chicago will remember Homey.

4. The Machine Guns of the St Valentines Day Massacre
The Saint Valentines Day Massacre is no urban legend – it was a real and gruesome morning of bloodshed in 1929, during the gang-riddled era of Chicago. 7 members of the North Side Gang were lined up and shot at with machine guns against a Lincoln park garage. This led to further bloodshed between the Irish North Siders and the Italian South Siders, famously led by Al Capone. While legendary, this is an irrefutable truth. The urban legend slips in as people claim the Clark Street spot is haunted by the massacred souls to this day. Civilians report hearing screams and gunfire as they walk by the massacre spot. There have also been a lot of reports of animals being freaked out as they pass the spot.

3. The Knocking Ghosts of Flight 191
On the 25th May 1979, American Airlines Flight 191 crashed moments after takeoff from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. 258 Passengers and 13 crew were killed, as were two people on the ground. This insane death toll makes this the worst aviation accident in United States History. Just as the jet was beginning its takeoff rotation, the left engine separated from the left wing and smashed into the runway, severing hydraulic fluid lines. As the plane began to climb, the damaged left side of the plane produced less lift and caused the plane to roll. This then caused the plane to crash in an open field right by the airport, killing all on board. The pictures from the aftermath are truly harrowing indeed. Debris was hurled into a nearby trailer park which destroyed five trailers…but that wasn’t all the trailer park would see of the crash. As the years went on, people living at the trailer park have reported frantic knocks at their doors, only to open them and find nobody there. One resident reported coming across a worried man who claimed he needed to make a connection. Another man in the area was walking his dog when he came across a man in a suit that smelled of gasoline who told him he needed to make an emergency call.

2. The Italian Bride
Mt Carmel Cemetery is best known for being the final resting place of Al Capone and a number of his gangster cronies. Also resident in the cemetery is the much famed and deeply mysterious Italian Bride. The Bride wasn’t actually a bride at all. She was a young woman named Julia Buccola who died in childbirth in 1921. She was reportedly buried in her wedding dress, which sparked her urban legend name. Following her death, her mother had a string of wild and vivid dreams that her daughter was not dead. Julia would tell her that she was alive and needed her help. Finally, six years after her daughter's death, the dreams got too much for Julia’s mother, who had her body exhumed. When the casket was opened, her body had not decayed one bit since the day she was buried. Creepily, on her gravestone, there is a picture of her body after she was exhumed, and yeah….she does look pretty freshly dead….which is really the best a gal can hope for sometimes. Finally, at number one, we have one of the most popular Chicago urban legends of all time.

1. Resurrection Mary
Ah, the vanishing hitchhiker. This urban legend is pinpointed to the southwest of Chicago in Justice Illinois. Since the 1930s, around 30 men who have been driving along Archer Avenue between Resurrection Cemetery and Willowbrook Ballroom have reported being hailed over by a young blonde haired, blue eyed woman in a white party dress. Further reports say she is wearing dancing shoes, wearing a shawl and holding a small clutch bag. The men that have stopped for her and let her in their car report her being softly spoken and shy. The woman asks to be dropped off at Resurrection Cemetery and then disappears in front of the gates. The legend says that this girl was in the ballroom with her boyfriend in the 1930s but they got into an argument and she decided to walk home. Sadly as she was walking up Archer Avenue, she was hit by a car that then sped away. She died at the scene, but her spirit is still searching for a chivalrous man to drive her home. Other reports have involved drivers breaking suddenly when they see a woman in white in the middle of the road.

Top 10 Scary Haunted Train Urban Legends Part 2

10. Express Train to Hell This story is an Urban Legend from Newark Central Station in New Jersey. It seems that a homeless man had been hanging around the station for a number of days and the station master had kept trying to move him on. One night he started screaming “ “It’s coming for me, it’s coming for me….” When the stationmaster reluctantly told the man that he was going to call the police, he said in all seriousness – The express train for hell is coming for my soul, you’ve got to help me. He confessed to the station master that he had killed a man who had cheated him. The stationmaster told him to calm down, but sure enough, at midnight, the sound of a steam engine came rolling into the station, along with the telltale wind that comes with an approaching train. He held the homeless man back, as he looked like he was about to jump in front of the invisible train. Both of the men stumbled back and the stationmaster lost his grip on the man. When he turned to see if he was okay, the homeless man was nowhere to be seen.

9. HELL GATE bridge
Which is disconcerting. Hell Gate crosses the east river, connecting Queens to Randalls Island. That isn’t all the bridge connects, though, it may well join New York to the afterlife….According to local lore, the bridge is haunted by an old train whose passengers are the cities damned. Those who find themselves on the bridge at night report seeing strange lights thundering towards them before they disappear. Others report seeing an old, battered train floating over the river. The legend says that the carriages are filled with people who have lost their lives in the water…from murder victims, people who have fallen short of the mafia, suicide jumpers and historic Dutch Explorers…they all sit together on the weirdest ride of all time.

8. Haunted Connolly Station, Ireland
Connolly Station is a busy train hub in the center of Dublin and connects rail routes across the country. In 2011 Ghost Hunters visited the station after a rise in reports of strange goings on in the building and around the platform. The Station is old, dating back to 1844, which means it is likely to have seen a lot of action. The station is also near the North Strand, which was heavily bombed during World War 2 and it is thought that some of the poltergeist activity is from lost souls who were killed in the bombardment. Leading Paranormalist Tim Kelly was keen to be granted permission to investigate the station, which is hard to obtain seeing as it is always so busy. He said Sometimes the human ear can't pick up the voices and they are only audible once recorded on the audio recorders and reviewed ….. he also quoted ghostbusters and claimed that he ain't afraid of no ghost.

7. Deadman on the New York Subway
This legend has been circling the New York Subway for about as long as the subway has been running…and has also done its rounds on the Paris Metro, the London Tube, the Toronto TTC….and basically all cities with underground train networks. This legend goes that a person is sitting on the train minding their own business, but they soon look up to realize the person across from them is staring at them with a creepy vacant stare. They notice two people sitting next to the starter, seemingly unaware. A man then comes up and whispers in the train riders ear that they ought to get off at the next station. They do, and the man says something along the lines of “thank god, I didn’t mean to scare you but you had to get off the train, the man staring at you was dead and the two people aside of him were propping him up.” There are so many variants on this story – some include one person riding round and round on a loop until someone finally realizes they’re dead. This story appeared in print in 1933 in a newspaper about Manhatten folk tales, leading us to believe this is simply an urban legend.

6. The Legend of Casey Jones
Jonny Cash sings the true story of the legendary Casey Jones, a gallant railroad engineer working in Cannonball, the USA in the late 1800s. Jones had a rep for always running his trains on time without fault, even if it meant running trains at very high speeds. He began to be known for his efficiency and the whistle he would make while driving trains through towns. One day, in April 1900, Jones was working a double shift and was tasked with bringing a late train from Memphis into Chicago on time. The train was an hour and a half behind schedule and Jones sent the train flying at 100 miles per hour. Sadly, as he pulled through Vaughn, Mississippi, he realized there was a train parked on the tracks ahead. Because of how fast he was going, he couldn’t stop in time. He pumped the breaks and advised some passengers to jump. He sounded the train's whistle as a warning. The collision was awful, but all the passengers survived. The only person who died was Casey, who was struck in the throat while he had one hand on his whistle and another on his break.

5. The Baby Train
Ah, this is a classic urban legend! Why is it scary? Well….because… babies! Babies as a result of train schedule! This urban legend has been told across a number of cities and one of the earliest mentions was in Chicago. 1939 a passage in Christopher Morley’s Novel, Kitty Foyle read: “The first thing you hear mornings in Manitou is the early Q train to Chicago. It’s too early to get up and too late to go to sleep again. They have a legend out there that the morning yells of that rattler do a good deal to keep up the birth-rate.” The legend also was appropriated to Canberra in Australia when the Government supposedly noticed that the birthrate was three times higher than in the rest of Australia. When a Government Statistician went to investigate he found the place swarming with kids. He realized the town was on the main rail line used by the Kyogle Mail train every morning at 4.30am. Apparently, this wake-up call got people frisky.

4. Ghosts of Glen Eden
Railway Station. Situated in Auckland, the Glen Eden Station has a rather morbid history. The station in Waitakere City was built in order to transport bodies to the nearby Waikumete Cemetery. That isn’t all, either. On January 11th, 1924, Alex MacFarlane, a tablet porter at the station, lost his balance and slipped between the platform and an oncoming train, severing his legs. He died from his injuries two hours later. Since the station was refurbished, a caf? has been built on site. It seems the ghost of MacFarlane is partial to a visit. Caf? staff has reported seeing a man with a grey beard and trench coat walking up and down the platform. Some say they see a man peering at them through a window. Other staff members have reported a man in a top hat entering the caf? and asking for a train timetable before disappearing.

3. Macquarie Fields
According to local reports, after the last train departs, crying and wailing can be heard whistling down the station. Those who have been on the platform after the last train has reported seeing a teenage girl shrieking, crying and sitting on the tracks. Apparently, this ghostly apparition is fond of starring into peoples eyes as they walk by her. Some say the ghost is of a girl who missed the last train home and was murdered as she tried to make her own way home, others say she was a teen who fell on the tracks…whereas others say she is a regretful suicide victim.

2. The Ghost of William Terriss
Actor, William Terriss was stabbed to death outside London’s Adelphi Theatre on December 16th, 1897 by a fellow thespian, Richard Archer Prince. It seems that Terriss had had the man fired from a previous production due to his instability….which…considering he later turned to murder him, is a fair shout. Prince was an alcoholic and was declared insane, which meant he got off quite lightly. Perhaps this unresolved business is why the Ghost of Terris is said to haunt the Adelphi Theatre and the nearby Covent Garden Tube station. Terriss’ ghost has been reported at Covent Garden station since 1955, over 55 years after his death. Jack Hayden, a ticket taker at the station was locking up when he encountered an elegantly dressed man wearing gloves and holding a cane. When Hayden asked the man how he was still in the station, he disappeared. When he reported the incident, his description matched the late actor. Many other station staff has spotted him after hours, too. It seems that the Tube station is near the site of Terriss’s favorite bakeries.

1. Time Travelling Train of Zanetti
This is a popular urban legend surrounding the alleged disappearance of a train in Italy in 1911. The story goes that an Italian Rail company, Zenetti, had set up a trip to advertise a new train route. They invited 100 high flying members of society to board this new train on a show route. The train, manned by 6 crew, left Rome and was traveling towards Lombard. As the train approached a mountain tunnel, a few of the passengers had a bad feeling. Two of the passengers were so overcome with terror, they jumped from the moving train. The rest glided on the train into the tunnel….which trembled and closed up behind them. It literally seemed as if the mountain swallowed the train, which was never found. The two people that jumped from the train were injured but survived and relayed their experiences to locals after they regained their health in hospital. The other 104 people on board were nowhere to be found. There were some sketchy reports of 100 or so people turning up in Mexico speaking Italian and seeming very lost and confused.

Top 10 Scary New York City Urban Legends

10. Hell Gate Bridge
In fairness, the bridge is named after the tidal straight it crosses in the east river…but still. The bridge connects Queens to Randalls Island and is an on brand red color. There are a number of urban legends connected to the bridge, including rumors of a killer lurking beneath its arches, but the main legend here surrounds the ghost trains. According to local lore, the bridge is haunted by an old train whose passengers are the cities damned.

9. Cropsey
Cropsey is Staten Islands very own Boogie Man, but the legend coincides with some real life terrifying stuff… Cropsey was rumored to be a killer with a hook for a hand who had escaped from a mental institution and hunted children. Cropsey was said to live in an old abandoned asylum, the Willowbrook Mental Institution. He would come out late at night and steal children off the streets, torturing them with his hook…in other variants of the story, he would have a bloody ax. Whichever way it was told, he was out there. Parents would use Cropsey to warn kids not to miss their curfews, others would use him to tease one another at sleepovers.

Sadly, the legend became mixed up in reality in the 1970 and 1980s when Staten Island children really started to disappear. Andre Rand started working at the Willowbrook State School – a school for children with learning difficulties that turned out to be an awful an unnurturing place for many reasons. Rand worked there and abducted and murdered 5 children. He was finally caught in 1987 when a young girl with Down Syndrome, Jennifer Schweiger, went missing. According to the acclaimed documentary, Rand may have been involved in Satanism and was possible killing the children as a ritual sacrifice.

8. 8 Million Rats
NYC dwellers will tell you that the population of rats will soon outnumber the population of people living in the 5 boroughs. Rats, of course, are terrifying for a good number of reasons – they’re vermin, they’re unclean and the spread disease. Hello…plague, anyone! While there is a whole load of rats living in New York City, there is actually around 1 rat to ever 4 dwellers – around 2 million rats…which is still a lot of rats! They’ll only be one Pizza Rat, though! We could do a whole top 10 on various legends of New York Rats…some people even think giant and or Mutant rats are running riot down there.

7. The Ghost Ship of the Hudson River
The Hudson River separates New York and New Jersey and runs all the way from the ocean up to Albany. The river is an iconic part of New York City urban legends of its very own. One popular story is the Legend of The Half Moon – the famous ship sailed by Henry Hudson, the namesake of the river. Hudson was lost at sea in 1611, although his ship is sometimes spotted sailing the famous river. One man named Samuel was fishing along the Hudson on the evening before a storm when he saw a wooden ship with three empty masts. Samuel was confused as he had never seen a boat like this in his life and said it drifted 50 ft away from him before disappearing. It seems the legend goes that the Half Moon is only spotted when times are rough on the river, serving as a warning for people to stay on dry land until bad weather passes.

6. The Buried Treasure of Liberty Island
Captain William Kidd was a Scottish Pirate who sailed on many an adventure but was especially known for his illicit activity around New York City. The famous pirate was said to have stashed a boatload of bounty on Liberty Island, which in those days existed without its famous state and was called Bedloe Island. After his death in 1701 for piracy, people started looking for Captain Kid’s loot, two soldiers, Gibbs and Carpenter, went to look for the treasure. They literally thought they had struck gold when they came across a wooden chest. Before they could open it, they were set upon by what they described as a demon with black skin, horns, and wings. This evil apparition is said to guard the treasure to this day, and still stalk liberty island at night.

5. Killer Pennies off the Empire State
Ever heard the one about people throwing pennies or cents off the empire state and – with the momentum they picked up from being dropped at such a great height, them killing innocent people standing below? It is a popular Manhattan urban legend and genuinely makes people nervous when walking around the base of the iconic building. This is just a scare story, though…an urban legend! A penny’s terminal velocity, the fastest it can fall through the air, is 25 miles per hour…even when dropped 1250 feet, it wouldn’t kill someone on the ground. It would hurt, sure. It would sting, absolutely, but it wouldn’t kill. To be honest, there are so many safety precautions these days that it is very unlikely anyone would be able to launch a projectile off the top of the building.

4. The Secret Bunker
Legend has it that there is 500 square acre subterranean city 100 feet under the central park. Theorists call the secret bunker The Manhattan Project….although I don’t know if they know that that name is already taken. These theorists, though, think that this secret project predates the atomic bomb. To accompany the theory, there is a rather in-depth website that claims to the bunker was built in 1853 and that it is still in active use down there. The site shows picture evidence of the bunker and its clandestine entrances around the park. The site also claims that the bunker is the property of the US government and that both Tsar Nicholas, the overthrown King of Russia, and Adolph Hitler were rescued and lived out their lives there. Hitler under the central park. Keeping it in Central Park, we have the legend

3. Ice Skating Sisters
This urban legend dates back to a pair of siblings, the Van der Voot sisters, who lived with their overprotective wealthy father in his Manhattan townhouse. Their father, a widower, would rarely let his daughters leave the house and when they did they weren’t allowed to go far. The furthest he would let them go would be to ice skate on the 59th street pond located at the south-east section of the park. They enjoyed this tiny, tiny slice of freedom so much. Both siblings died spinsters within months of each other in 1880. Around 35 years later, during the first world war, stories started circulating of two girls seen gliding over the 59th street pond. The sightings have occurred frequently ever since, and in all weather. The pair is seen in a Victorian-era dress, with one wearing red and one wearing purple. The sisters enjoy such fame as an urban legend, even the New York Times ran an article on them in 1997.

2. John Lennon and the Ghosts of The Dakota Building
The Dakota Building is a New York Landmark. Built-in 1884 it was already shrouded in mystery and paranormal whisperings before providing the backdrop to John Lennon’s Murder in 1980. The former Beatle, of course, was shot outside the front steps by David Chapman. John lived in the building with Yoko Ono, who claims to have seen his ghost sitting in their apartment. She isn’t the only one who has seen his apparition, either.

In 1983, Joey Harrow and Amanda Moores saw him standing at the entrance looking pensive. It seems John is just one of a number of ghosts haunting the famous building – Lennon himself said he saw a spirit called the crying lady, the ghost of a former manager of the building. The Dakota is also said to be haunted by the ghost of a young blonde girl in a yellow taffeta dress. Residents of the building to this day still report a lot of strange goings-on.

1. The legend of the Sewer Alligators
In New York City, there has been a legend for decades upon decades that Alligators exist in the sewer. The urban legend dates back to the 1930s and goes that wealthy people would bring baby gators back from their trips to Florida and the southeastern states. When the Gators got too much for them, they would flush them down the toilet and the snappy chappies would end up in the sewer, where they would breed with other abandoned pets.

In 1932, the New York Times reported an alligator spotting along the Bronx riverbank and three years later teenagers told news outlets they saw one crawl out of the sewer. People still claim to see gators in New York today, despite many refuting the claims. That being said, A 2-foot Caiman was caught in Central Park in 2001…so the legend more than prevails.
