Why Are Men Struck by Lightning More Often Than Women?
According to statistics 79 people die every year as a result of a lightning strike in the USA alone. Between 1968 and 2010 a total of 3,389 deadly cases were recorded. The remarkable thing? 85% were men. One study has suggested a possible explanation for the reasons behind this: between 2006 and 2012 most fatalities occurred while the victim was fishing, followed by camping, playing football or golf – all hobbies that are generally more popular with men. According to the study many people underestimated the danger of these outdoor activities and didn’t allow enough time to get themselves to safety.
