Sophie Vilmes has submitted her resignation as she wishes to stand by her husband who was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Vilmes has resigned, the cabinet said in a statement on Thursday (14/07).
Vilmes had temporarily stepped down in April to care for her husband, who had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
"My husband's illness will be a difficult battle that I want to fight by his side and next to our children," Vilmes said in a statement according to APE-MPE. "My current government duties would not allow me to do this."
