A 14-year-old girl was killed and a 13-year-old boy was injured when a roller coaster car detached.
A 14-year-old girl was killed and a 13-year-old boy was injured in an accident on a roller coaster in Aarhus, western Denmark, police said.
The accident happened a few minutes before 1pm local time on Thursday (14/07) when one of the carriages detached from the Cobra roller coaster, said the director of the amusement park Tivoli Frichenden, Henrik Ragborg Olsen.
"The back part broke and was hanging from the rest of the roller coaster," he explained, speaking to TV2.
A 14-year-old girl was killed, while a 13-year-old boy was injured in the hand by the detachment of the wagon. The park was closed and all visitors were evacuated.
The same roller coaster, which reaches a height of 25 meters and can develop a speed of 70 km, had another accident in 2008. Then, the front part came off, resulting in serious injuries to four people. The subsequent investigation determined that the accident was due to a manufacturing defect.
