They decide to board a spaceship called Anara to travel to Mars, their new home. Onboard Anara, there are many activities and places for people to enjoy, including private residences, a shopping mall, a cafeteria, a spa, and it's like a mini-flight entertainment center, providing happiness during the journey. Among the many workers on board Anara is Emily, a young woman who manages the MA system, a virtual reality system that allows users to hear the sounds of nature. Then, images are fed into their memories, allowing them to concentrate and imagine that they are actually in that place. The MA system was created to relieve stress and loneliness from homesickness, as well as reduce fear and panic attacks. Emily herself uses it regularly. However, the MA system isn't very popular among people, as they have other things to focus on besides meditation. This makes Emily feel insecure about her own work. While Emily was introducing the MIMA system to a few interested people, an unexpected event occurred: a piece of space debris collided with the Aniara, hitting the reactor in the wrong spot. The crew had to dispose of the fuel tanks, which meant the ship was no longer controllable. The ship's captain then had to... Five years later, Isage is close to giving birth, but... Emily began to suffer from depression and thought that the child born would suffer the rest of its life on the Aniala ship, eating only terrible food and living in a hopeless environment—an environment unsuitable for growth. Because of this, Emily wanted to talk to the captain about reviving MMA to help alleviate her loved one's emotional pain. The captain then apprehended the astronomer, forced her to "re-educate" her, and announced to all the remaining investigators that the investigation must remain secret until they were certain of the object's true contents and that it offered genuine hope. However, the astronomer remained unfazed, convinced the object contained no fuel and that Aniala would remain adrift in space forever. This caused the captain to lose control, grabbing a security guard's gun and shooting himself.

The astronomer died as a result of the incident. After that, Emily held a final funeral for the astronomer and watched as her body was sent out into space, floating among the stars like other corpses. Grieving, Emily turned to drugs with a young man she had dated when she first boarded the ship, unaware that the object was a purple substance and about to explode. People fled in panic, but only a few survived. The explosion caused severe shaking of the ship, resulting in many fatalities and the destruction of the object. Emily, regaining her composure, rushed back to Izakel and their child, but Izakel was depressed again, with no hope of acquiring fuel and Emily missing from the shockwave. Izakel suspected Emily had been unfaithful to him. Following that incident, the captain...
