About 1,000 species of orchids grow in the wet forests. The baobab tree stores water in its thick trunk and flourishes in the dryer areas.
Climate of Madagascar
Madagascar has two seasons: a hot, rainy season from November to April and a cooler, dry season from May to October. The east coast rainforest is hit periodically by tropical storms and cyclones The central highlands are cooler and drier, a nd are where most of the farming is done. The west coast is a dry deciduous forest where the trees lose their leaves during the dry season.

Most of the people of Madagascar are farmers or herders. Their chief exports are coftee, vanilla a nd cloves.
