Berlin: All scheduled hospital surgeries are postponed due to Covid-19
The postponement of all scheduled surgeries at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin was deemed necessary in order to move staff from other clinics to the coronavirus wards. More than 120 patients with coronavirus are hospitalized there alone, of which 50 in ICU.
The Charité University Hospital in Berlin announced today that it is postponing all scheduled surgeries due to its burden on patients with Covid-19 .
According to the hospital management, the ever-increasing number of patients treated with Covid-19 makes this step necessary in order to move staff from other clinics to the coronavirus wards. From now on and for as long as needed, only emergencies will be served.
More than 120 coronavirus patients are currently being treated at Charité. Of these, 50 are in the Intensive Care Unit. There are 470 cases of coronavirus being treated throughout Berlin, 130 of them in the ICU.
The board of directors of the university hospital had already warned last month about the danger that regular operations could not be serviced, noting the lack of staff, as many, under the pressure of the situation, are either on sick leave or have changed jobs.
