Morocco: Battle for the rescue of a 5-year-old who fell into a 33-meter well
Rescue teams in Morocco are battling to save a 5-year-old boy who fell into a 33-meter well.
For the fourth day in a row, rescuers in Morocco are battling time to save the life of a five-year-old boy trapped in a very deep well.
The operation, which is particularly difficult due to the diameter of the well, has moved the citizens of Morocco, who are anxiously watching the developments in the case.
The rescue operation for 5-year-old Ryan, who fell into the 33-meter well on Tuesday, became more intense yesterday, Thursday, as when it got dark, the rescuers started digging with the help of floodlights.
The difficult conditions
The head of the rescue crews , Abdelhambi Temrani, told local media that the operation is particularly difficult as the diameter of the well is only 45 cm.
According to him, due to the soil, the attempt to widen the hole is especially dangerous for the little boy and that is why the only solution is to carry out large-scale excavations around the well.
Government spokesman Mustafa Baitas said yesterday, Thursday, that the rescue of the small child was approaching. "We sympathize with the family and pray that (Ryan) returns to her as soon as possible," he said.
The boy's adventure has caused a wave of support on the internet worldwide, with the hashtag #SaveRayan (Save Ryan) in Arabic having gone viral across the continent.
The spreaders have so far reached a depth of 27 meters and as reported by the Moroccan news agency MAP, "the hope is to reach 32 meters in the next few hours." A team of doctors has also gone to the site to examine the child when they manage to get him out of the well.
