France: Jean-Castex positive about coronavirus - Quarantine and Belgian PM after their meeting
The French prime minister had gone into self-isolation as his daughter had also been diagnosed with coronavirus. Eventually he got sick too. His Belgian counterpart is also in quarantine.
The Prime Minister of France Jean Castex tested positive for Covid-19 . A few hours earlier, he had entered self-isolation, after his 11-year-old daughter was also diagnosed positive in the disease.
Castex was in Brussels this morning, where he met with his Belgian counterpart, Alexander de Croix. He was scheduled to meet this afternoon in Matinion with elected representatives of Guadeloupe to discuss the health situation in their region, along with Interior Ministers Geral Darmanen, Overseas Territories Sebastian Lecorny and Health Minister Olivier Vera. However, returning from Brussels, he learned that his daughter was ill and underwent a test, which was positive.
This is not the first time that the French Prime Minister has been isolated because he had contact with a Covid-19 case, but this is the first time he has been diagnosed with a positive case. He isolated himself in June when his wife tested positive. December 2020 was a "close contact" between President Emanuel Macron and, a few months earlier, Christian Pridom, president of the Tour de France, when they fell ill with Covid-19.
Castex, according to the APE-MPE, will remain in isolation for 10 days, but will continue to work.
The Prime Minister of Belgium is in quarantine
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croix went into self-isolation after meeting with his French counterpart Jean Castex on Monday morning, according to the Belgian television channel VRT.
De Croo will be examined on Wednesday and will remain in solitary confinement until then, as will four of his government ministers who attended the Franco-Belgian security summit.
All of them will remain in quarantine until the result of their tests is negative.
