Belarus: Ready to receive 2,000 migrants
Belarus ready to receive 2,000 migrants and assist in the repatriation of another 5,000 in order to resolve the crisis on the border with Poland.
The Belarus wants the European Union to welcome 2,000 migrants and Minsk will send 5,000 others back to their countries to resolve the crisis on the border with Poland , said today the representative of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, according to the Belarusian Belta news agency .
The spokeswoman said that President Lukashenko had discussed the proposal with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and that she had agreed to discuss it with the European Union.
Representative Dalia Eismond summed up the proposal as follows: "The European Union is creating a humanitarian corridor for the 2,000 refugees in the camp. We undertake to facilitate (as much as possible and if they wish) the remaining 5,000 to return to their homeland ".
Berlin did not immediately comment on the allegations. According to the APE-BPE, it is not clear whether the plan could be accepted by the EU, especially as the return of 5,000 migrants depends on conditions. The European Commission had earlier said that there was no question of any negotiations with Lukashenko.
Hundreds of Iraqis, who remained for weeks on Belarus' border with the EU, boarded a repatriation flight to Iraq today, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.
"Yes, unfortunately only about 400 refugees agreed to return to their homeland. "In total, to be precise, there were 374 passengers on the plane that departed today, most of them Iraqi citizens," Eismond said.
"We are fulfilling our promises, while the EU has not yet fulfilled any of its promises," said a spokeswoman for the President of Belarus.
