Michael Cohen, Donald Trump 's once trusted personal lawyer , was released today after serving a three-year sentence for violating campaign finance laws and other offenses.
Cohen, 55, told reporters outside the Manhattan District Court that he intends to work with law enforcement to ensure that "others will be held accountable for their dirty work and that no one will be above the law."
A few minutes later, he posted a photo of himself on Twitter, in which he presents his release documents. "So that's what freedom looks like!" wrote in the caption.
In the photo, the gray-haired Cohen is wearing jeans and a black jacket, sitting behind the wheel of a car.
Cohen, who represented himself throughout his legal adventure, pleaded guilty in December 2018 to tax evasion, election law violations and other offenses. Due to the pandemic and the spread of Covid-19 in prisons, he remained in Otisville Prison for about a year and served the remainder of his sentence in his luxury apartment on Park Avenue, under house arrest. He tried to lift the house arrest on May 29, six months earlier than planned, but a federal judge rejected his request.
