Berlin honors Turkish Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk
The Social Democrat mayor of the German capital, Klaus Boverait, stressed that Pamuk's enemies "are also our enemies and foes of Turkey's accession to the European Union, fanatics who despise democracy and secularism." Pamuk had canceled his visit to Germany last February without explanation, but this time decided to go to the country for a series of lectures until May 8. The author of the "Black Book" denies that he is a writer who "builds bridges "between West and East. " My job is not to explain Turkey to Europeans and Europe to Turks, but to write good books, " he said in Hamburg on Wednesday during the presentation of his book.
