The Focus Is on the Climate
Scientists call for immediate action, stressing that the next 20 to 30 years will be crucial in combating overheating
UN experts meeting in Bangkok are calling for an annual reduction in global carbon dioxide emissions of 50 to 85% by 2050. If people want to keep global warming under control, they must take immediate action, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says. The Giec report points out that in order to maintain the rise in temperature to 2 degrees Celsius, 0.12% of the world's Gross Domestic Product will be needed. Scientists appear optimistic, stressing that global warming can be controlled and that there is technology to take action. Among other things, they suggest boosting renewable energy sources and controlling deforestation.
