Mustard ‘Osaka Purple’
Brassica juncea
A nutrient-packed brassica hailing from Japan, ‘Osaka Purple’ mustard is loaded with goodies including vitamins K, A and C. Reason enough to find a place for it in your autumn crop plan, but here’s the kicker: ‘Osaka Purple’ is a supremely beautiful plant. It produces handsome round leaves that are emerald green at their base and rich purple at their margins. Backlit by a lowering autumn sun, they look spectacular. Flavour wise, they’re similarly impressive. Young leaves have a mild pungency, making them ideal as a colourful ingredient in salad. Mature leaves kick harder than a Mallee bull, but go great in braises and stir-fries. One of the most outstanding plants for the cool-season vegie patch.
