Coronavirus - Italy: 50% of Rapid Tests Show Wrong Result
According to an Italian study, the result of rapid coronavirus tests in 50% of cases is incorrect.
An Italian scientific study reported by Microbiology professor Andrea Crissadi concluded that 50% of fast coronavirus tests produce the wrong result.
The study was conducted at the Ceinge Biotechnology Center in Naples and was based on tests performed on coronavirus patients admitted to the University Hospital Federico Secondo in Naples. The patients who took part in this study were in different stages of the disease.
According to Professor Chrisanti, the accurate results of rapid tests do not exceed 50% of all tests, while saliva tests offer an accurate result in only 30% of cases. Which means, the press writes, that the number of positives in the virus is much higher than those obtained from these tests.
That is why, according to the Italian government's coronavirus adviser, Professor Walter Ricciardi, the adoption of the "green two-speed pass" must be accelerated: so that unvaccinated citizens, on a daily basis, can only enter their office and limit new infections.
"It is necessary, especially in the current phase, because there is a risk that the Delta Plus variant will spread, with which a patient can infect up to nine people," Rizzardi explained.
