Protesters clash with police, trying to block roads leading to the city where the G8 summit will be held
Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Wednesday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.
A police spokesman said eight police officers were injured during the clashes near the town of Bad Doberan. Protesters northeast of the city tried to block access to the luxury hotel, where the G8 summit is to take place.
A spokesman for the police said about 10,000 people had broken the ban on demonstrations in the area around the hotel, where the summit would take place, and that many of them were in danger of being arrested. About 16,000 police officers have been deployed in the surrounding area for security.
