France: Extreme right-winger Eric Zemour threatens Macron calls coronavirus "exaggeration"
"We have taken great advantage of people's fears. We have overdone it," said Eric Zemour, a far-right French presidential candidate.
Eric Zemour, the far-right who is likely to run in the French presidential election , said today that he thinks the fears about the coronavirus are excessive.
Zemour's position contradicts the stance of many European governments, which are reintroducing restrictive measures on citizens' movements to fight a fifth wave of the pandemic, with Austria entering a total lockdown today.
"We have to bring this epidemic back to normal. We have taken great advantage of people's fears. We have overcome it and we are doing it from the beginning," he told France Info.
Polls show Zemour battling far-right politician Marin Le Pen of the National Alarm party for second place and therefore for the second round in next year's election against outgoing President Emanuel Macron first in the polls.
According to APE-MPE, the polls show Macron as a possible winner in the second round.
Zemour, who is known for his extremist views on issues such as immigration, Islam and national identity, said he would suggest a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine only to those over 65, as opposed to Recommendation of the French regulatory authorities for vaccination with the third dose for those over 40.
He also said that he would aim to abolish the health pass that is now used in France as proof of vaccination in order for someone to enter bars, restaurants, museums and sports venues.
Zemour spent last weekend in London "flirting" with the large expatriate French population in the city. He is expected to confirm his candidacy for the presidency on December 5th.
